Adrian Hawthorne managed to get down one bowl of rice in soup before he stopped eating. The Green family, however, tucked in with gusto. It was obvious that fried dough sticks were a luxury item for them, not something they got to eat often. Rhonda ate the most of anyone.

Mrs. Green kept shooting her warning glances, but Rhonda pretended not to notice. ’This is a rare opportunity,’ she thought. ’I didn’t manage to get any cash or gifts, so what’s wrong with me eating a few more fried dough sticks?’

After breakfast, Mr. Green, along with Liam Green and his wife, left for work. Dalton Green went off to school, and the house suddenly felt empty.

Mrs. Green affectionately took Rosalind’s hand. "Stay home and chat with me. Tell me all about how you’ve spent the last ten years. Kenneth, you didn’t eat your fill, did you? In a little while, Grandma will fry some shredded lotus root pancakes for you."

"There’s no need, Grandma. I actually have to go out for a bit."

Adrian Hawthorne planned on taking Rosalind to the hospital for a look. He wouldn’t be able to rest easy until she had a thorough check-up; her behavior had been just too strange.

"Are you going... over there?" Rosalind asked hesitantly.

Adrian Hawthorne shook his head. "Not there. I’m taking you to the hospital for a check-up. Grandma, how about you get one too?"

"I’m perfectly fine; I don’t need a check-up," Mrs. Green said nervously. "Rosalind, what’s wrong? Are you not feeling well?"

"Not at all. I’m eating well and sleeping soundly," Rosalind said, completely baffled. She felt much stronger lately; she could even carry two buckets of water and walk with a spring in her step.

Adrian Hawthorne smiled and said, "It’s just a routine physical. You should come with us, Grandma."

"There’s no need to waste money..."

Mrs. Green was reluctant to go, but she was no match for Adrian Hawthorne’s silver tongue. Besides, Rosalind also felt it was a good idea for her mother to get checked out. And so, the three of them made their way to the nearby First Central Hospital.

Adrian Hawthorne went to register while Rosalind and her mother waited on the side. Mrs. Green gazed at her grandson, who, though young, carried himself with an impressive air. She was deeply gratified, and said with a smile, "Kenneth looks just like my son-in-law. He’s just as capable, too. He’s sure to have a promising future."

"That goes without saying. Kenneth is far more successful than his father. In fact, all the money our family has now is earned by him..." Rosalind stopped abruptly, a flustered look in her eyes, and fell silent.

Mrs. Green, however, sensed that something was amiss. She pressed, "Kenneth earns the money? What about my son-in-law? Has something happened to him?"

"No, he’s fine... Mom, don’t ask anymore. I’ll tell you later."

Rosalind avoided her mother’s gaze. Mrs. Green now understood. ’Something has definitely happened. I’ll get the full story out of her tonight.’

After registering, Adrian Hawthorne first took Mrs. Green for her examination. They checked her blood pressure, blood sugar, and ran an ECG. Rosalind underwent the same tests, and her results were perfect. Mrs. Green’s blood pressure was a bit high and she had a slight heart arrhythmia, but the doctor said medication wasn’t necessary. She just needed to be mindful of her diet, get enough rest, and do some light exercise.

"Grandma, I’m taking Mom to the third floor for a bit. You can wait here."

Adrian Hawthorne had already made some inquiries. The hospital didn’t have a dedicated psychiatry department, but there was a Doctor Hughes on the third floor who offered psychological counseling. Rosalind found this odd. "My test results were all perfectly normal. Why are we going to the third floor?"

"The doctor said a specialist is offering free consultations today. Since it’s free, we might as well check it out," Adrian Hawthorne said nonchalantly.

Rosalind didn’t suspect a thing. "Oh, so hospitals have free promotions too? What’s the specialist’s field?"

"Internal medicine."

Once on the third floor, Adrian Hawthorne first spoke to Doctor Hughes, explaining his concerns about Rosalind’s unusual behavior. He then had Rosalind go in while he waited outside in the hallway. The corridor was busy with people coming and going—doctors, nurses, patients, and their families. Some faces were etched with worry, while others beamed with joy.

Will came up to the third floor carrying an emaciated man on his back. Madman Feng followed behind him, along with a frail, ten-year-old girl. She scurried up to the third floor, but didn’t spot Adrian Hawthorne.

Adrian Hawthorne happened to turn his head at that moment. By the time he looked back, Madman Feng and the others had already disappeared into the doctor’s office.
