Phoebe Huxley and Felix Thorne stared at each other in disbelief, their hearts about to leap out of their throats. Their second son had really made something of himself, easily earning seven hundred yuan. No wonder he’d insisted on going to Capria for a visit a while back. It turned out he’d gone to make big money with that Hawthorne boy.

But then a thought struck her.

"Did Adrian earn even more?"

Phoebe Huxley’s mind raced, quickly grasping the key point. If Adrian Hawthorne had helped their second son earn this much, he must have made far more for himself.

Her breathing grew rapid again, and her vision blurred. Just before this, she had been feeling smug about earning six or seven yuan a day. Now, she felt ashamed.

A kid was earning more than her. What did she have to be so proud of?

But then she remembered her own second son was just as capable, and pride swelled in her chest again. ’He’s my son, after all. I’m the one who gave birth to him.’

"He definitely earned more, at least several times what I did. But he’s the one who sourced the goods, so he deserves to make the big bucks," Patrick Thorne said without a hint of envy. He had a level head and knew his priorities.

Right now, his main task was studying. He hadn’t been particularly fixated on getting into college before, but Ellie Ashton’s goal was the journalism department at FD University in Tristone. Because of that, Patrick Thorne’s own goal had shifted from just getting into any vocational college to aiming for FD University as well. He hadn’t decided on a major yet; he figured he’d just pick something when the time came.

So as long as he could earn enough spending money, there was no need to waste time on unimportant things right now.

Phoebe Huxley gasped. ’Several times more... how much is that?’ Not being great at math, she had to calculate it over a dozen times before she finally got it. She gasped again, her face full of envy. "Several thousand yuan! That boy Adrian is just too capable. Rosalind Green is a lucky woman!"

But Jim Thorne was unhappy now. He said resentfully, "I made money too! Several hundred yuan!"

Tang Xiaonan’s heart skipped a beat. She glanced sympathetically at her third brother before lowering her head and staying silent. ’I can’t help him now. He really dug his own grave!’

Sure enough—

"The money you earned? Where is it?" Phoebe Huxley’s eyes went wide, her attention zeroed in on the "several hundred yuan" Jim Thorne had mentioned. ’So this is my third son. Earning money and not handing it over. I’m going to beat the life out of this little brat!’

Jim Thorne inwardly cursed. He was kicking himself. He quickly denied it, "I was just kidding! I didn’t make any money, I really didn’t..."

But Phoebe Huxley wasn’t so easily fooled. She grabbed Jim Thorne by the collar and searched him from top to bottom, finding over ten yuan in loose change. That was a huge sum in itself these days, which proved the little rascal definitely had a secret stash.

"Hand over the money! You learned this from your uncle, didn’t you? How dare you keep a secret stash! If you don’t hand it over, I’ll break your legs!"

Phoebe Huxley smacked Jim Thorne a few times, making loud THWACKING sounds. It hurt just to watch, so Tang Xiaonan silently scooted a little farther away. ’I don’t know anything.’

Jim Thorne protected his head with his arms. At first, he gritted his teeth, ready to die rather than surrender. But then Felix Thorne joined the fight. He couldn’t withstand a two-on-one assault from both his parents, so the boy finally confessed.

"OW... It’s just a hundred yuan..."

"Like hell I believe you! Didn’t you just say ’several hundred’?"

Felix Thorne slapped him. ’Does he think I’m senile? This little rascal is asking for a beating.’

"It was originally over two hundred, but I spent some! I only have a little over a hundred left... OW... Stop hitting me! If you beat me to death, who’s going to earn money for you...?"

Jim Thorne was past the point of crying. He really wanted to slap himself. Why did his mouth have to be so fast? Old Master Tate had told him more than once to be discreet and make a quiet fortune. Why couldn’t he ever remember that!
