Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year
Chapter 478: The Sly Rabbit’s Three Burrows
"It’s so late. You’ve already arranged a place to stay, haven’t you?"
"What? Afraid I’ll go up and see someone I shouldn’t?"
"Park the car. Room 2607," Evan Fairchild said, then turned to leave.
Ian Fairchild parked the car and went to the room Evan had mentioned. The door opened before he could even ring the bell.
He walked straight in, his gaze sweeping around the room before he walked to the sofa and sat down.
"Want something to drink?"
"Whatever."
Evan Fairchild opened the fridge, grabbed a bottle of mineral water, and handed it to Ian Fairchild.
"I’m heading back to Argent first thing tomorrow morning. I’ll just crash here for the night, is that okay?"
"Sure," Evan Fairchild nodded.
Ian Fairchild was inwardly pleased. "Show me around your place."
"Take your time looking around. I won’t see you off tomorrow," Evan Fairchild said, getting up to leave.
"Where are you going?"
"Home," Evan Fairchild replied without the slightest hesitation.
Ian Fairchild frowned. "You don’t live here now?"
"Mm."
’No wonder he was so generous, bringing me up and letting me stay the night. The sly rabbit has three burrows—he’s living somewhere else.’
’No wonder I couldn’t find a single clue here.’
"Don’t go yet. Let’s talk."
Evan Fairchild sat back down on the sofa. "What do you want to talk about?"
"Let’s talk about your rumored girlfriend."
"It’s not a rumor."
’He admitted it that easily?!’ Ian Fairchild thought he would have to press him a little more.
"I don’t want anyone in our family bothering Melody Monroe. When I’m ready to make our relationship public, I’ll bring her home and introduce her to you all properly."
"Well, look at you, already protecting your woman. Not too shabby. It’s true what they say—a man only really wises up when he meets the right woman. I just wanted to know if you and Melody Monroe were really a thing. I didn’t mean anything else by it, and I have no intention of interfering in your love life."
"You’ve been back in the country for a while now. Other than founding Starfall, it doesn’t seem like you’ve moved any of your other investments back. The domestic situation has been great these past few years. Have you considered shifting your focus to domestic projects?"
"I don’t have any plans for that at the moment."
"Big Brother really wants you to help share his burden."
"He has a son."
"You mean Leo? He spends all day studying pieces of wood. He has zero interest in business."
"But you’re here, aren’t you?"
"I’m already swamped with my own work. How could I possibly find the headspace for anything else?"
"I’m sure I have far more on my plate than you do."
Ian Fairchild was speechless.
"You have a son, too," Evan Fairchild added.
"Is that any way for an uncle to talk? Liam is only in middle school! This is a critical time for his studies."
"I told you a long time ago not to send him to a traditional school. That model of education is just a waste of time."
That remark really struck a nerve with Ian Fairchild.
"Do you think every child in the world is as brilliant as you?" Ian Fairchild’s head began to ache just thinking about his son.
’His grades are always at the bottom of the class, and now, he’s even starting to rebel! He’s so difficult to handle.’
’Talking with Evan Fairchild really wasn’t a smart move.’
’Because Evan always loves to talk about the things people least want to discuss, rubbing salt and pepper right into their wounds.’
"Is there anything else?"
"Nope, you can go," Ian Fairchild said, shooing him away as if he owned the place.
