Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year
Chapter 457 - 455: The Human World Is Hell
"The apartment across the hall?" Keith Coleman’s smile froze.
’There’s another one?!’
"Yes," Melody Monroe nodded.
"Why would you buy so many apartments? This complex looks like it’s ten-odd years old, doesn’t it?"
"I didn’t buy them."
"Then who did? Are they crazy? Buying two at once."
"Watch your words," Melody Monroe gave him a three-word warning.
Keith Coleman got it in an instant.
He immediately clamped his mouth shut.
Even his posture unconsciously became more proper.
Melody Monroe watched his reaction, taken aback for a second.
’That beating he took was really effective.’
"Melody, you don’t have to stay here just for me. You haven’t been back to Rockwellburg in a while, so go spend some time with Ian. I’m fine."
"Yeah, Melody, I’m here, aren’t I? With me around, she’ll be fine." Keith couldn’t wait for Melody to leave so he and Rose could have the place to themselves.
Melody Monroe was still hesitant.
"I’m really fine," Rose Shaw added.
"Alright, then," Melody Monroe nodded.
’Rose Shaw really did seem to be fine. It was a completely different state from when she’d married Christopher Sterling.’
After Melody Monroe left, only Rose Shaw and Keith Coleman remained in the room.
"Thank you for helping me out today. Felix Hughes’s mother... she didn’t give you a hard time, did she?"
Keith Coleman suddenly leaned back on the sofa. "OOF! Don’t even start. That shrew... my arms are killing me!"
"Did she pull on your arms?" Rose Shaw looked at Keith Coleman’s arms. Both were in casts, so she couldn’t see or feel the injuries.
"Wasn’t she threatening to kill herself? I nearly jumped off the building with her!"
Hearing Keith Coleman say this, Rose Shaw couldn’t help but chuckle.
"That’s about the only way to handle someone that completely unreasonable."
"You were right not to marry him! If you’re going to marry someone, it should be a guy like me—unattached, with no baggage."
"You? You’d give up an entire forest for one tree?"
"That depends on if I like the tree. If it’s the one I like, forget a forest—I wouldn’t take a whole jungle if you offered it to me!"
Rose Shaw just smiled and let the topic drop.
"Rose, what happened? You and Felix Hughes were already talking about marriage. Why did you call it off? Was it just because of the child issue?"
At the mention of a child, Rose Shaw’s expression faltered.
"If you don’t want to tell me, don’t force yourself. Just pretend I never asked."
"Keith, have you ever seen what hell looks like?"
"The mortal realm... isn’t that hell?" Keith Coleman replied with a smile.
Rose Shaw was stunned.
’That one sentence made her heart clench, as if prodding a raw nerve. She understood. That was the kind of thing only someone who had truly lived through it could say.’
She lifted her head and looked at Keith Coleman.
’Does he have a past he’s unwilling to talk about, too?’
"My big break only came after I met President Fairchild," Keith Coleman explained softly.
Rose Shaw understood, nodding gently.
"Are you hungry? Want to order some takeout?" Keith Coleman asked, suddenly changing the subject.
"With your injuries, takeout isn’t a good idea. Why don’t I buy some groceries and cook something? I know there’s a market nearby."
’Keith was injured, after all; he needed to be careful about what he ate.’
"I’ll go with you."
"In your condition, you probably shouldn’t be wandering around, right?"
"I made it all the way from Jansburg to Rockwellburg. You think a little walk is going to scare me?" Keith Coleman shot back.
’Rose was at a loss. He was so badly injured, yet he had still rushed all the way from Jansburg. Was it just to attend her engagement party, or was it...’
