Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year
Chapter 394 - 392: Digging One’s Own Grave
Just then, several uniformed officers walked over.
"Who called the police?"
"I did!" Rose Shaw answered.
Wayne Payne froze for a moment, then immediately said to the officers, "You have to investigate this thoroughly! Find out who spiked the drink!"
"Can someone describe what happened?"
"I can," Melody Monroe said, stepping forward. "Eileen Scott proposed a toast. About ten to fifteen minutes later, this happened."
"Who brought the drinks at that time?"
"It was me. I’m a server here. It’s my first day on the job. I don’t even know who Eileen Scott is. The drinks were all the same, brought over from the bar."
The officers immediately went to the bar and took a sample of the drinks.
"Did anything happen while you were carrying the drinks? For example, did anyone deliberately approach you?"
"Yes! Now I remember. A man bumped into me slightly."
"Who was it?"
"I think it was Eileen Scott’s assistant. The one who knocked Eileen out."
Chester Johnson, who had been lurking in the crowd, tried to leave, but Keith Coleman suddenly appeared in front of him, grabbing his wrist and shoving him forward.
Pushed out into the open, Chester Johnson shot Keith Coleman a venomous glare.
"Officers, it was this guy!" Keith Coleman said, pointing at Chester Johnson.
The officer glanced at Chester Johnson, his gaze hardening.
"Are you all looking in the wrong direction? He’s Eileen Scott’s assistant. How could it possibly be him!?" Wayne Payne shouted.
"Why not? Anything’s possible! What if he was trying to harm someone else, but the plan backfired and ended up hurting one of his own?" Keith Coleman interjected.
Wayne Payne was so furious he could feel a vein throbbing in his temple.
’This damn sissy. I’ll get him sooner or later!’
"Let me just lay out my theory, shall we? Eileen Scott’s behavior today was a bit strange. She’s always had it in for Melody, but then she suddenly comes over to have a drink with her, afraid Melody wouldn’t drink. She said all that stuff about ’let’s have a drink and bury the hatchet.’ That’s obviously just goading her!"
"And she even insisted that Melody had to finish the whole drink! That part is just way too suspicious!"
"Shut up! Who do you think you are? Is it your place to play detective? The police are here, and they’ll get to the bottom of this!"
"I have a lead!" someone in the crowd called out, stepping forward and handing their phone to the police.
After a look, the officers shot several sharp glares toward Chester Johnson.
"Take him away!"
Wayne Payne was speechless.
"Could there be some misunderstanding?"
"We’ll find out if it’s a misunderstanding after we take him in for a proper investigation."
Wayne Payne glanced at Chester Johnson, signaling him not to say a single word. ’This is tricky,’ he thought. ’We came here to find out who drugged Eileen, but the investigation ended up pointing right back at us.’
Although Wayne Payne knew they were in the wrong.
’He just never imagined the investigation would move so quickly!’
After the police left, everyone started whispering among themselves.
Could it really be that Eileen Scott was trying to frame Melody Monroe?
Judging from the situation, it was almost certainly the case.
Eileen Scott was truly ruthless!
But how did the spiked drink end up in her own hands? Was her luck really so bad that she even messed up the drugging?
If that was the case, it would be truly pathetic.
They’d seen people shoot themselves in the foot before, but this was the first time they’d seen someone screw themselves over so spectacularly, like Eileen Scott had.
The crowd dispersed, and Melody Monroe returned to her room for the time being.
Keith Coleman followed her, glancing back from time to time.
Rose Shaw didn’t follow.
She was with Felix Hughes.
"Keith Coleman, thank you."
