Chapter 725: Chapter 374: Banli’s Mind

Yun Ying let out a laugh and teased, "If you don’t get engaged soon, people really won’t be able to leave you alone. The way everyone has their eyes on you, it’s even more intense than for my senior brother."

Juhua couldn’t help but look at her upon hearing this. ’If other people have their eyes on Doctor Qin, wouldn’t that be vexing for me?’

Realizing her slip of the tongue, Yun Ying quickly tried to cover for it. "When people have my senior brother on their minds, it’s because they’re looking to see him as a patient. He works all day without rest, which keeps me busy too."

So, she started talking about things at the clinic, then moved on to Master Yun’s past. Juhua was captivated by the legendary tales of him "slaying the rich to aid the poor" and kept pestering Yun Ying to tell her more. She was so absorbed she didn’t even notice her son had woken up; Zhang Yang was the one who saw him first.

He and Hulu hurried over to the crib. The man and the boy stood on either side, staring at Cong with dopey grins, completely ignoring Banli’s smiling face.

Seeing Zhang Yang pick up Cong, Juhua quickly rose from her foot warmer and said, "Here, let me. I’ll help her relieve herself first. It’ll be a pain if she pees on you. You’d have to change your padded jacket in this cold."

Yun Ying hopped down from her foot warmer as well, laughing. "You all are still so biased. The whole family favors Cong and ignores Banli. Oh my! Look how happily Banli is smiling. Let Aunt Yun hold you. When you’re older, you can be Aunt Yun’s apprentice, and we’ll just ignore them."

With that, she picked him up. When Juhua brought over the chamber pot, Yun Ying expertly helped Banli relieve himself and changed his diaper. Meanwhile, just as Juhua was about to take Cong, Yangzi suddenly yelped. As it turned out, his niece had indeed graced him with a stream of pee, leaving a large wet patch on the front of his robes.

Juhua shook her head in amusement. "I told you to be careful. You should have wrapped a diaper around her bottom. How could you just hold her while she’s bare like that!"

Zhang Yang wasn’t angry. He just chuckled, handed Cong to Juhua, and went to his room to change.

Hulu looked up at the little sister in Juhua’s arms and said, "Pee pee. Sister."

Juhua laid her little girl on the bed, deftly bending over to slide a diaper under her bottom. "Sister peed on someone, how embarrassing!" she replied. "She’s not as well-behaved as our Hulu. Hulu doesn’t pee on people. Hulu is such a good boy."

Hulu was used to hearing praise like "good boy" and knew she was complimenting him. He leaned against the bed, grinning silently as he watched Juhua work.

Yun Ying walked over with Banli in her arms and was just about to speak when the little guy started twisting his body with all his might, trying to get closer to Hulu. "Whoa! I can barely hold on, he’s so strong!" Yun Ying exclaimed. "Hulu, hurry and come here. Banli wants to play with you. He’ll get upset if you ignore him."

So she sat down on a small wooden chair, settling Banli on her lap facing outward. Hulu obediently stood before them, letting Banli wave his arms at him excitedly. The baby gurgled and giggled, blowing bubbles and letting strings of drool dribble down his chin, which made Yun Ying urgently call out to Juhua, "Quick, pass me a cloth!"

Juhua casually grabbed a cotton handkerchief from the head of the crib and handed it to Yun Ying—a stack of diapers, cloths, bibs, and other baby supplies was piled there, a fresh heap of which was needed every day.

She looked at her son, feeling utterly speechless. ’He’s only a few months old, so why on earth is he so fond of Hulu? Hulu doesn’t even play with him much—he teases Cong far more. I refuse to believe that the friendship ’gene’ between Qingmu and Huai Zi could actually be inherited. The minds of little children are truly wondrous and mysterious. You can never quite decipher their habits and mannerisms.’

’Take Banli, for example. As long as Hulu is around, he’ll even forget to nurse. But if Hulu isn’t there, he demands to be fed the moment he wakes up, otherwise he quickly grows impatient and starts to pout and cry.’

Yun Ying laughed. "Hulu and Banli are definitely going to be the best of friends when they grow up. They’re still so little, but look how attached they are! I’ve never seen anything like it. Don’t most babies just want to cling to their mothers? I think in Banli’s eyes, you’re not nearly as important as Hulu!"

Juhua felt even more dejected hearing that and said in a huff, "It’s Banli who’s clinging to Hulu, not the other way around. I bet it’s because I was always with Hulu while I was pregnant, always teaching him to talk. The two of them must have bonded while he was still in my womb."

The more she thought about it, the more convinced she became.

She didn’t even need to think back to when Hulu was a baby, though she had visited him often then too. From the moment Hulu started using his baby walker, Juhua was almost always the one looking after him. Heavily pregnant at the time, she couldn’t do strenuous work, so her main task was watching the boy. She would talk to Hulu all day long, not caring whether he understood her or not. The two little brothers, separated only by her belly, were simultaneously receiving her teachings. It seemed this really had an effect, and it was the reason Banli was so drawn to Hulu.
