Train Survival: I Can Evolve Everything!
Chapter 771: [Disaster Card·Eternal Frozen Hell]
“I failed... I lost... hehehe... I couldn’t protect a single one...”
The elderly man muttered to himself.
Ye Qiyan looked at the ring in his hand and the key that was undoubtedly used to open the Barrier to the Disaster Card. After a moment of thought, he glanced at the barrier.
He didn’t immediately take the Disaster Card inside.
The cold wind in this world all blew in one direction.
With the barrier in place, it could offer some resistance.
If he took the Card Sequence now.
Without the sequence to sustain it, the barrier would probably be shattered by the world’s bitter cold soon enough.
When that happened, the fate of this little wooden cabin would go without saying.
“Hm? Why are you... still here? Hurry up and go. Use that key, open that barrier, take what’s inside, and carry that ring outside. Just don’t stay here, hehehe...”The old man was sometimes raving, sometimes lucid.
Ye Qiyan shook his head. He snapped his fingers, took a box of fruit candies from his Storage Space, and placed it on the table.
“No rush. You’ve still got two days to live, right? Want something to eat? It’ll keep you warm.”
Ye Qiyan felt he could dig up more information from this old man.
He stepped into the little wooden cabin. As soon as he touched it, the identification info on the system interface screen surprised him.
[Glory’s Hall (…Level 13/Level 0)]
[Once the palace of the King of Glory. To resist the End and protect the people, it kept falling, kept crumbling, until now. The Spirit within it and the hall itself both perished to the End.]
The cabin had once been a palace.
Looking at this dilapidated place, Ye Qiyan didn’t know what to say for a moment.
The End... Could it really go this far?
This Glory’s Hall must have been at a very high level before, yet under the End, it had been reduced to its current state.
What about him, then?
Ye Qiyan’s gaze once again fell on the old man, who was holding a piece of candy in front of his eyes, lost in thought about something.
The level of cold outside, even with the Wandering Star Holy Sigil in place, was affecting Ye Qiyan to some extent.
Even with Nefeti’s help, the temperature could only be raised to barely warm.
But this old man—how many years had he spent in this world of the End?
“I remember... a child really liked candy...”
The old man murmured to himself.
He seemed to recall something.
The expression on his face twisted into something bizarre.
He was crying.
But he couldn’t cry.
Because his tears had long dried up after burying he didn’t even know how many of his subjects.
The same went for his blood.
“I am... I am the King of Glory. I... Who am I?”
“The Flavro.”
Ye Qiyan spoke the name he’d seen on the letter.
If the System hadn’t been wrong, then this old man’s name should be that.
“Your name is The Flavro.”
“The Flav... ro? No, no, no!”
The old man suddenly clawed at his face like a madman.
“I’m not! I don’t deserve it! I shouldn’t! The Flavro was the King of Glory. I’m just a failure, just a worthless thing who couldn’t protect anything! I... I am The Flavro...”
He regained his composure once more.
It was as if his mind was teetering back and forth on a razor’s edge.
“Human, thank you for the candy.”
The Flavro picked up a piece of candy and put it into his mouth, which had long since lost its tongue.
“But you really should go now...”
“I said, no rush.”
Ye Qiyan once again took out some food from the Matrix Space.
He didn’t mind the dirt and found a spot to sit down. Staring at the scene outside the wooden cabin, he ate in silence, occasionally tossing some food to The Flavro.
Time passed like that.
Day one, day two...
The old man spoke, and he listened.
The Flavro no longer urged him to leave immediately.
With a mind that was clear from time to time, he described for Ye Qiyan what this world had once been like.
It was a world full of glory.
A world full of power too!
Enemy after enemy had been defeated by him, world after world had submitted because of his glory.
As a member of the Hero race, he had ensured that every one of his subjects possessed a talent.
He couldn’t remember why he had become the King of Glory.
He only remembered that he had become king because he relied on his people.
He remembered every single one of his subjects’ names.
From the oldest elder to the newborn babies crying at birth.
Until.
The End.
Until that forty-eight-hour countdown.
Had dwindled to just the final hour.
“You should go now, human.”
This would be the last time The Flavro said those words.
“Thank you for keeping me company and chatting with me, for helping me remember my name, for making me know my own purpose. But it’s time. My body, my soul, everything about me... It’s time for it to end.”
Ye Qiyan understood what The Flavro meant.
Because he had once seen what the end of a world really looked like.
Mountains collapsing, the earth cracking, the whole world turning to ash.
The Flavro had used everything he had to resist the End for countless ages.
Until a thousand Wasteland years ago, when he had exhausted all his resources.
He had handed over everything he had gathered in this world to the train system. In exchange, the system had frozen the flow of time in this world.
And the moment Ye Qiyan had entered this world.
Both his life and the world’s life had been reduced to just forty-eight hours.
From start to finish, Ye Qiyan never once asked The Flavro if he wanted to leave this world, if he wanted to live on.
He walked out of the cabin and came to the barrier surrounding the Disaster Card.
The wind and snow in the air had grown even fiercer.
Even Nefeti could barely provide any warmth.
“Phew...”
The barrier had already been opened. The key had been inserted into the ice pillar by Ye Qiyan earlier.
He passed through the entrance that could only fit one person.
Climbed the altar like an iceberg.
At the top of the five hundred and fifty-fifth step.
A frost-blue Card Sequence came into view.
“As expected. This Disaster Card is related to the cold, isn’t it.”
Ye Qiyan muttered to himself as he approached the small altar.
The frost-blue Card Sequence floated above the small altar.
“Then, number four.”
Ye Qiyan reached out his hand. The moment he touched the Card Sequence, a screen appeared.
[Disaster Card·Eternal Frozen Hell]
[Frozen: Eternal Perpetual Freeze...]
[Disaster: A World of Perfect Silence...]
The Ring of Calamity materialized behind Ye Qiyan.
[Eternal Frozen Hell]
The fourth Disaster Card merged into the ring.
The aura of calamity radiated outward.
At that moment, he seemed to be a walking natural disaster.
One look at him was enough to send chills down a person’s spine.
This fear was not the pure malevolence of a [Demon Card].
It was the dread that living beings feel toward catastrophe.
Eternal Frozen Hell. On the front of this card was engraved the vestige of a civilization buried in wind and snow.
It wasn’t animated, and there was no sound, yet it made one feel that this Card Sequence was filled with nothing but loneliness.
If someone were placed inside this card, it wouldn’t take long before they went mad.
Crack, crack—
Cracks appeared on the barrier.
The little wooden cabin, which had once been [Glory’s Hall], wobbled precariously.
This planet called Kaela Star was collapsing.
He needed to leave.
