Chapter 1546: Chapter 273: You're a Very Dangerous Person to Me

  • Next Chapter

The giant serpent beast, which had been freed from the Curse Stone, lay silently on the ground, but the warriors of the expeditionary force dared not be careless and surrounded it tightly.

The Princess frowned, wrapping her palm with a cloth torn from her clothes, and picked up a fragment of the Curse Stone—a type of stone that scholars at the research institute had once pried off for study… If humans directly touched it, they would turn to sand.

Even shattered, the Curse Stone retained its power. However, the resurrection of the giant serpent beast through the Curse Stone’s power, leading other beasts to resurrect with it, was something the Princess encountered for the first time in her life.

“Your Highness, it’s ready!” A guard from the Royal Palace hurriedly approached the Princess. “Should we ascend the watchtower now?”

“If not now, then when?” the Princess snorted coldly.

The Royal Palace had a watchtower, which the Princess had ordered for construction to observe the walls’ condition from the palace’s location at a moment’s notice. It was usually used on the day of the longest night.

The Princess quickly headed for the watchtower, followed closely by the little maid—still clad in her Golden Armor. The image of her vanquishing the giant serpent beast was still vivid in everyone’s minds, evoking awe and respect.

The Princess indeed was amazing. No one expected a little maid to possess such divine power… truly hidden depths.

“Arian, what did you encounter?” the Princess suddenly lowered her voice after a moment of silence.

This little maid never had such divine power before. She was indeed just an ordinary little girl in the Royal Palace, very honest and unable to keep secrets… The Princess didn’t believe she had been hiding it all along.

Something definite must have happened after she left the Pharaoh’s hall—a period so short that it seemed inconceivable for anything to occur, making the Princess herself unable to fully assert her suspicions.

She stared into the little maid Arian’s eyes.

“It called itself the Lamp God!” The little maid hurriedly said. “It emerged from the oil lamp given to me by Your Highness… I, I didn’t know; I just rubbed it a few times!”

The Princess furrowed her brows deeper, “What did it say?”

“It offered Arian three wishes, instructing Arian to make them.”

The little maid recalled the matters of the Red Lamp Spirit, “It appeared to be in a rush. I was initially frightened, but it seemed unable to harm me… just a feeling.”

The Princess reached out to touch the Golden Armor on this little maid… a stream of light shimmered across its surface, and she couldn’t help but show a thoughtful expression, “Did it give this armor to you?”

The little maid nodded.

The Princess asked directly, “Can you take it off?”

The little maid shook her head, “No, I’ve tried, and it can’t be removed… and this spear, even when thrown, it returns on its own!”

The Princess nodded, then asked, “Where is the oil lamp then? Where have you placed it?”

“It’s still in the hall!” The little maid patted her forehead, “Oh no! I’m sorry, Your Highness, I left it behind at that time…”

The Princess, however, waved dismissively, “Since it’s still in the hall, we can discuss it later… no one will take interest in that oil lamp. Besides, everything around is in chaos now… The beasts are the immediate urgency.”

Despite saying this, the Princess couldn’t help but ponder… Arian had truly summoned the Lamp God from that oil lamp?

That oil lamp was indeed thrown to Arian by her—but it was that same oil lamp that appeared beside her ever since she came back to her senses… appeared out of thin air.

In her contemplation, the Princess had already climbed the watchtower, where a guard handed her a tool that could view the wall’s position—an amazing device called a telescope, developed by the Princess’s research institute.

Monocular.

She extended the monocular telescope, aligning it with the location outside the wall—to allow for surveillance of the area beyond the City of the Sun’s walls at night. Five years ago, the Princess ordered the construction of many watchtowers outside the city, to be kindled every night.

At this moment, under the firelight, enormous silhouettes could be seen surging like tidal waves… vast waves of giant beasts, seemingly poised to trample the entire City of the Sun into ruins.

Even used to seeing giant beasts, ten years of warfare… the Princess couldn’t help but feel a chill down her spine.

She understood the power of the City of the Sun, that without the True God’s protection, relying solely on the city’s own forces, there was no way it could survive the massive onslaught of the beasts.

Yet, the True God’s protection over the City of the Sun could only be activated during the longest night of the year… but now, the time had not yet come!

“Your… Your Highness, what should… what should we do?”

Behind her, the trembling voice of the little maid came… a flash of confusion crossed the Princess’s eyes, yes… What should be done?

“We alone cannot hold them back.” The Princess took a deep breath, “I need your help, Arian… If the legend is true, then you are the only savior of the City of the Sun in this catastrophe!”

“I… I?” The little maid’s eyes widened instantly, then as though realizing something, she clenched the Golden Spear tightly, nodding forcefully, “Alright! I’ll go fight them!”

“Your courage is commendable, but first wipe away the tears of fear.” The Princess shook her head, reaching out to wipe the tears of fright from the corner of Arian’s eyes, “How could I let you actually go to the battlefield? Even if there was fighting to be done, it should be me… This is my responsibility as the Sun Princess.”

“Then… Then Your Highness means?” The little maid quickly grasped, “The Lamp God?”

“Yes… if the legend is true,” the Princess nodded, “it can help us… and only you can ask it to do so. Are you willing to use one of your wishes that can accomplish anything?”

She scarcely hesitated, nodding resolutely, “Of course!”

“I think I finally understand why when I once touched it, it had no reaction,” the Princess smiled wryly, “I am not a pure person.”

“How could Your Highness not be… uh?”

The Princess’s hand directly covered the little maid’s mouth, whispering into her ear, “I am not as perfect as you all believe… If, if one day you find that I am not myself, do not forget your current intent to protect this City of the Sun.”

Arian, though bewildered, nodded quietly.

The Princess solemnly declared, “Then before me, vow… no matter what difficulties you face, no matter the dire straits, do not forget your determination to guard this City of the Sun.”

In front of her, she earnestly made this promise.

With determined and unwavering eyes, resembling a magnificent Luminous Pearl.

The Princess then self-mockingly said, “Understand now, I’m merely a vile person… Someday you’ll realize, how I’ve manipulated your thoughts like this… Go, retrieve that oil lamp in the hall, and wish again!”

“Your Highness, you?”

“I am going to the Temple…” the Princess said sternly, “though the protection of the True God can only be activated on the longest night, I still wish to try.”

The Princess turned around, waved her hand, and said loudly, “Sound the great bell, open the Royal Palace, everyone in the city to take shelter!!”

Shortly after, the massive sound of the bell spread throughout the City of the Sun… and in that instant, the City of the Sun began to plunge into a chaotic panic.

The bell sound also reached this place.

Yamana stopped, and behind her, Boss Luo said, “Is something the matter.”

“It’s the great bell.” After a moment of silence, Yamana spoke in a deep voice, “It only sounds when the City of the Sun faces the greatest threat, next the Royal Palace will open. I have dug many cellars around the palace walls to hide, storing supplies for years.”

“If the monsters break through the City of the Sun, can it help the residents avoid danger?” Boss Luo nodded, “A truly comprehensive plan.”

“Only as a last resort.” Yamana shook her head, “The situation outside is much more severe than I believed… I feel tonight is truly the longest night.”

Boss Luo said, “Why is there a longest night every year… Is something attracting the monsters?”

Yamana said, “Each year’s longest night is when the True God’s power is the weakest, and the monsters will have the opportunity to break through the City of the Sun.”

Boss Luo said, “Do they know?”

Yamana furrowed her brows. There has never been a definite explanation as to why the monsters only riot on this day—at least the scholars at the research institute couldn’t answer her questions.

“Perhaps they know, perhaps they don’t.” Yamana sighed, “There are still many secrets in the subspace where the City of the Sun is located, which I cannot unravel. It’s precisely because of this that I…”

“That you?”

Yamana said calmly, “I’ve also become selfish… selfish enough to want to escape this cage, to abandon everything here.”

“Retreating in the face of danger is not something shameful.” Boss Luo said casually, “Escaping is often more effective.”

“But it’s shameful!”

Yamana bit her lip, her fist directly hammering onto the wall beside her—the hard wall instantly broke her fist.

“Have you seen the True God?” Boss Luo handed over a handkerchief, “I heard the Highness is the Holy Maiden of the Temple and able to hear the True God’s voice.”

“Not necessarily.” Yamana swiftly wrapped her injured fist with the handkerchief, “I can only hear some voices sporadically and unilaterally.”

“What did it say?” Boss Luo asked lightly.

Yamana thought for a moment, “It’s not a language I can understand, it’s like a kind of information, I can only understand bits… but for a long time, it seems the True God has always conveyed the same message to me… freedom.”

“Freedom?” Boss Luo thought, “Does it want freedom?”

Yamana shook her head, “I don’t know if it’s it or something else… just simply freedom.”

“Hm…” Boss Luo nodded and then asked, “Since your Highness cannot communicate with the True God, how did it bestow you with the Divine Artifact?”

At this moment, Yamana suddenly stared at Luo Qiu, silently watching… watching, she slowly opened her mouth and said, “You came here from the outside world, didn’t you?”

“Why do you say that?” Boss Luo countered.

Yamana said, “Only then when I speak of knowledge not found here, you wouldn’t show a puzzled look, and you were able to understand… even at the research institute.”

“Your Highness observes very carefully.” Boss Luo chuckled carelessly.

Yamana frowned, “Answer me!”

“Your Highness,” Boss Luo replied, “How about this: I confess one thing you want to know, and you answer one of my questions.”

“Agreed!” Yamana quickly said, “I ask first… who exactly are you, and what is your purpose here.”

“Origin or purpose.” Boss Luo blinked.

Yamana frowned, “Purpose!”

Boss Luo said, “Initially came in here just to find someone.”

“Who?”

Boss Luo calmly said, “Your Highness, that’s already a second question.”

Yamana deeply looked at Luo Qiu, but suddenly said, “You can ask, but I may not answer you immediately… you didn’t set a time to answer.”

Boss Luo smiled, “Then Your Highness won’t be able to ask my next question.”

Yamana said calmly, “But in the same way, you won’t know the answer to my first question… strictly speaking, I’ve gained.”

Luo Qiu smiled indifferently and then said, “Does Your Highness like it here, or outside?”

Yamana snorted lightly and turned away, just as she said, she wouldn’t answer immediately… and she initially just wanted to confirm one thing… now it was confirmed.

The young guard Yiben, indeed, is an outsider.

The road ahead seems to be almost over.

Yamana suddenly stopped and whispered, “If you’re looking for a way out, listen to my instructions later… I will try my best to help you leave here, but I can’t guarantee anything, the ‘Gate’ is always in the High Priest’s hands, and only he has a way to open it.”

Boss Luo curiously asked, “Why do you plan to help me?”

Yamana said calmly, “Don’t overthink it, I just don’t want innocent people to be involved… of course, maybe you’re not innocent, but rather you have some purpose. Yiben… to me, you’re a dangerous guy, and I’m starting to be unwilling to get too close to you.”

Yes, a very dangerous guy… one who would make the heart a tangled mess!
