Chapter 174: Leader’s Dignity

Ignoring Moon and Dorbish’s admiration for the tea Zera brewed, Enzo suddenly dropped an offer that they could never have expected to hear, "Then, how about this; I kill Korr for you, and you come to my side?"

Dorbish, who was taking a sip of his tea, halted. His eyes darted at Moon, waiting for his response; so did Zera.

But Zera’s eye held a new emotion right now.

Reluctance.

"How’s that bitch doing these days anyway?" Moon asked instead of giving an answer.

"Very well; he’s progressing and adapting to the new reality very fast," Enzo said with an unwavering smile.

Moon smiled back. "That’s pretty good; let him enjoy his time to the fullest," he said in an authoritative tone.

Puzzled, Enzo asked, "You want him to live well?"

Moon raised his right foot over his left leg, aimed directly at the screen. "Of course, he should keep enjoying this illusion of belonging and safety for as long as he can."

"So, you’re refusing my offer?" Enzo asked.

"What offer?" Moon raised his eyebrows and leaned forward. "You think that bitch is worth anything?"

"I’ll save you the struggle to kill him," Enzo said, shrugging, stating the obvious.

"Struggle my ass, that useless bitch isn’t qualified." Moon spoke in utter disdain.

Enzo shook his head helplessly. "You have no idea how much good stuff I’ve been feeding him, he’s an entirely different person from what you remember," he explained.

"So?" Moon wasn’t impressed.

"I even trained him." Enzo raised his index finger. "He’s by far stronger than ever." He looked at Dorbish. "Far stronger than three or four of that friend of yours." He pointed the raised finger at Dorbish’s face.

"A piece of dung cannot turn into gold," Moon commented, not convinced. "But nice work anyway, I appreciate your efforts."

Enzo chuckled softly. "Making him stronger is fun?" he asked.

Moon smiled, wide and ugly. "I want him to feel undefeatable, absolute... It’ll make killing him slowly far more enjoyable."

Enzo and Moon locked gazes for a few seconds, before they burst into laughter together. "Man, we really are the same kind of person," Enzo commented.

"Like hell I’m the same as you, stalker," Moon said, slapping his knee while laughing.

After an agonizing fit of laughter that Zera and Dorbish had to bear with, they finally stopped.

Enzo ran his finger over his teary eye. "Well, now that I think about it, no matter how much gold you pour into a piece of dung, it can never turn into gold." He shook his head. "It could only be replaced with real gold; otherwise, you’ll dirty your gold in the process and lose it."

Moon nodded. "You’re starting to understand," he agreed with Enzo’s claims.

Enzo smiled apologetically. "But what if I say Korr isn’t dung, but raw gold ore that needs some cleaning?"

"Good luck cleaning that," Moon waved at him dismissively.

"Yeah, that’s why I wanted you in the first place," Enzo stated openly again.

"Bruh, we can’t work together," Moon stated flatly. "It’s just not gonna work no matter what." He dismissed him again.

"Care to explain why?" Enzo didn’t give up, pressuring Moon again.

Moon rubbed his chin, tilted his head and looked at the ceiling for a moment, before giving an answer.

"Welp, first," Moon extended his hand and rested it on Zera’s head, ruffling his hair. "You got such a cute bastard working for you." His gaze returned to Enzo. "Yet you sent him to be locked with a dangerous monster like me, where he ended up losing his eye... Such a waste of a good underling." Moon let out a bitter sigh.

He shook his head. "You think no one would notice, but he actually is stronger than that dead oaf," Moon stated flatly. "He accepted your orders and followed them at the price of his own death, so I took an eye instead."

Enzo nodded. "Quite generous and observant." He smiled softly. "What are your other reasons then?"

"Is that one not enough?" Moon frowned.

"No, we can always talk things out." Enzo was too patient.

Moon nodded. "You’re not wrong."

He raised two fingers. "Second, I don’t like getting stalked," Moon stated.

He then raised the third, "Third and last, you’re not my type, I like women." Moon gave him the final reason.

Enzo laughed. "If I happened to be a woman, would we have worked together?" he asked.

"That’s a disgusting thing to imagine." Moon shook his head.

"You’ve only learned about me today, so much hate for a little over 2 hours," Enzo said with a sad face, jokingly.

"That assassin brat is doing her job well, I see I see." Moon nodded. "Should I snap her neck? It’s within the rules anyway." He rubbed his chin, swinging his foot in deep thought.

"I can also target a few of your cute underlings," Enzo challenged.

Moon nodded. "You’re free to do that. For someone who sends his underlings to get bullied and killed for fun, you sure can try doing that," he said calmly. "If you can afford it, that is."

"Hmmm." Enzo scratched his nose. "How about I kill Korr regardless of anything first and think about it later?" Enzo said softly.

"Ew, man, you sure are disgusting to look at." Moon’s tone and demeanour changed.

"See, it’s always possible to have a good talk and agree to things." Enzo shrugged. "I won’t do it now; you don’t have to worry," he assured.

"Mate, did your brain leak out of that hole on your forehead?" Moon’s tone turned aggressive. "I said you lack the leader’s dignity; you are not qualified to work with me," he elaborated.

Sigh~

Enzo couldn’t help sighing deeply. "In the end, we really are different, too different," he said regretfully. "But then again." His tone shifted into a more energetic pitch. "You worked for Korr; does that mean I’m worse?"

"Korr was a bitch of an employer; I did all the work," Moon explained. "You, on the other hand, will send your closest aides to die."

"As far as I know, he sent you to die, though." Enzo shrugged.

Moon nodded. "Now that I think about it, you are the same kind of bitches," he agreed.

"How about I give you some intel about my group? If you still lose this trial, you join my side," Enzo offered.

"Intel is for the weak; only someone like you needs it." Moon shrugged. Earning a worried look from Dorbish in the process.

Enzo smiled helplessly, rubbing his forehead. "It’s tiring talking to you."

Moon nodded. "It’s a common problem; random scrubs come pick a fight with me only to get beaten. What a sad life I’m leading." He placed his hand on his chest, looking hurt.

"What’s a good price then for you to join me? You name it," Enzo offered generously, stopped playing games.

"What do you have to offer?" Moon asked.

"Well, no one would aim for your life for killing Dara, or being the students of these old men." Enzo raised a finger.

"How are you sure they’re my teachers?" Moon asked, unimpressed.

"That skirmish ring, it was full of violations, yet they allowed it." Enzo smiled again. "These two are not as simple as they seem; they’re sending a message to all their enemies, here’s our new discovery."

Moon went silent for a moment before nodding. "You’re not wrong on that part." He leaned closer to the screen and asked, "But I have something else in mind. If you can give it to me, I’ll be on your side," he stated.

Enzo’s eyes glittered in excitement. "Name it, anything you want."

Moon spoke in a loud and clear voice, "I want the disgusting eyeball bastard behind the gate dead. Can you give me that?"
