Chapter 137: Chapter 137 Angry Marcus!
"It’s... This isn’t what—"
Noah stammered before falling silent, completely unable to force the words out.
Killian watched him for a moment, his expression slowly softening. "Is it difficult for you?" he asked quietly. "It can’t be that difficult. I don’t mean to force you, but if you can’t say it, then I’m sorry I brought it up in the first place."
He was already preparing to change the subject when Lysander immediately interrupted. "That’s not good."
Everyone looked at him. Lysander didn’t even blink. "Isn’t this exactly what is supposed to happen when you open your mouth and ask someone a question like that?"
Killian frowned.
"Don’t look like that, Killian. I know the type of person you are, and I stand by what I said. Noah should say whatever he wants to say. Anyone who decides to leave because they can’t accept his answer? That’s their problem. It only proves they never truly liked him in the first place."
Lysander reached over and clasped his cold hands around Noah’s trembling ones. Noah looked down at their joined hands.
"You must be tired of carrying all those secrets on your back," Lysander continued, his voice unexpectedly gentle despite the sharpness in his words. "It’s time to pour them out. If they can’t receive the truth, then they should be man enough to walk away."
Lysander was practically throwing fuel onto an already burning fire. Yet Noah didn’t know whether he should be grateful for it or terrified. Because somehow, those words made the heavy weight pressing against his chest feel a little lighter.
He had been carrying this secret for so long. Every time someone called him Ashton, every time one of the four Moonlight Alphas looked at him with memories of the person he was supposed to be, it felt like he was standing inside someone else’s life. He was Noah. But everyone around him wanted Ashton. Or at least, that was what he had feared.
"Wait..." Eugene’s eyes narrowed. "He knows about this?"
Killian immediately turned toward Lysander, looking offended. "How do you know what he was about to say?" There was genuine irritation in his voice now. They had known Noah—or Ashton—for so long. They had spent years chasing after him, hurting him, fighting with him, and obsessing over him. So how was Lysander somehow aware of a secret that they didn’t even know existed?
Lysander scoffed. "Yeah, I do." He gave Killian an unimpressed look. "And shut that trap up and let him speak before you continue your interrogation. Damn it, Killian and Eugene, don’t you two have manners at all?"
"Excuse me?" Eugene muttered.
Noah swallowed hard. His heart was beating so loudly that he was almost certain everyone could hear it. He looked around the room—Killian, Eugene, Damian, Marcus, and finally, Lysander. Five men. Five different expressions. But all of them were waiting for him. There was no escaping anymore.
Noah slowly inhaled. "The thing is..." His voice shook. "I am Noah Evernight."
Silence.
Noah’s fingers tightened around Lysander’s. "I’m not Ashton Lane." The words finally came out. "The real Ashton is dead."
The atmosphere changed instantly. A sudden chill swept through the room. Noah didn’t even know whose pheromones he was feeling at first—it was coming from every direction. The air became heavy. His body instinctively backed away, his shoulders tightening as the overwhelming Alpha pheromones filled the room.
Lysander immediately stood, his entire body shifting in front of Noah and shielding him without hesitation. "Stop it!" His voice cracked through the room like thunder. "You are scaring him with your pheromones."
The four Alphas blinked.
Marcus was the first to realize what had happened. His pheromones were pouring out uncontrollably. Killian and Eugene had suspected something was wrong for a while. The Ashton they knew had never behaved like this. He had never looked at them the way Noah did. He had never spoken like him. He had never carried this strange warmth that seemed to draw them in. Most importantly, they had constantly felt rejected by Ashton. Yet this person in front of them had somehow managed to make each of them feel wanted. It had confused them from the beginning. They had simply refused to admit it.
"Snap out of it, Marcus," Killian snapped. "You’re pissing me off."
Marcus’s head turned toward him. His eyes were red. Then he looked at Noah. There was pain in his expression—pain and betrayal. "What did you do to Ashton?"
Noah froze.
"Can you all just listen to him?" Marcus demanded, his voice breaking. "What happened to the real person who was supposed to be here? And where did you even come from?"
Lysander’s eyes darkened. He took one step forward. "Watch your—"
But Noah stood up before he could finish. "Are you shouting at me?" His voice wasn’t loud, but the hurt in it was obvious.
Marcus stopped.
Noah stared directly at him. "So all those declarations you made to me before... Were they not true?"
Marcus laughed—it wasn’t a happy laugh. It was the kind of laugh someone made when they couldn’t process what they were hearing. "This is crazy." He shook his head. "This is completely fucking crazy. How could you tell us this and expect me to act like everything is normal?"
Noah’s chest tightened.
"The person I liked was Ashton Lane," Marcus said. "Not whoever this imposter is. So my feelings for you don’t exist."
Noah’s jaw dropped. The words hurt far more than he expected.
Damian immediately stood and moved between Marcus and Noah. "Calm down, dude."
Marcus glared at him.
"He hasn’t even finished explaining. We don’t know what happened, so give him a chance to speak." Damian kept his voice firm. "And like he said, you professed your love to him. So don’t pretend that suddenly means nothing just because you found out his name isn’t Ashton."
Marcus’s fists tightened. "It should matter!" His voice echoed through the room. "He isn’t supposed to be here!"
Everyone fell silent.
"He is stealing someone’s life!" Marcus shouted. "The person this whole mission was meant for! And now you’re all just going to accept him?" His eyes landed on Damian. "And don’t tell me you’re supporting this imposter too."
Damian shook his head. "I’m sorry, dude. We’re friends, but I’m not supporting you this time."
Marcus stared at him.
"Ashton or not, I love this side of him." Damian glanced toward Noah. "He cared about me. He didn’t judge me. He didn’t care about my curse." His voice softened. "Do you really think Ashton would have stayed if he knew everything about us?"
Marcus opened his mouth but couldn’t answer.
"Maybe he did know," Damian continued. "Maybe that’s why things happened the way they did. I don’t know. None of us know what happened yet." Damian took a breath. "So I don’t understand why I should leave someone I genuinely fell for just because the person we knew before is dead."
Marcus’s expression shifted.
"The past is the past," Damian said. "Ashton is dead. He isn’t coming back. So stop acting like Noah is some criminal for being here."
Noah’s eyes burned. He didn’t know when the tears had started forming, but before he could stop them, one slipped down his cheek. Then another. Damian noticed, and his expression softened. He turned toward Killian. Killian gave him a small nod. Then Killian looked at Marcus.
"As Damian said, I’d like to hear the rest of the story."
Marcus looked at him in disbelief. "Killian..."
"But it won’t change my feelings." Killian’s voice was calm. "You are the one I fell in love with." He looked at Noah. "Your personality. Your charisma. Your aura. Everything about you." His lips curved slightly. "You’re so damn enchanting that I can’t go a day without wanting to look at you."
Noah’s tears fell harder.
Killian shrugged. "So why should I lose that because someone who never really liked me is dead?"
Marcus gasped. "This is Ashton Lane we’re talking about!"
Killian’s expression hardened. "No." He pointed toward Noah. "This is Noah." He took a breath. "And I don’t want the Ashton you keep talking about."
Marcus stared at him.
"This face isn’t Ashton. And honestly?" Killian looked Noah up and down. "He’s more stunning than that guy ever was."
Noah blinked.
Killian continued without shame. "His beauty is practically heaven itself. I never said he was Ashton. I fell for him as he is." His gaze hardened. "So fuck what happened. I don’t want to go over this if you’re planning to leave. If you want to walk away, you’re welcome to."
Marcus looked like Killian had slapped him.
Damian immediately stepped toward him. "Please, Marcus." His voice became pleading. "He’s still the guy you love. We still don’t know what happened. We can’t judge him before hearing everything."
Marcus’s jaw tightened. "We don’t know what happened to Ashton."
"No." Damian shook his head. "We don’t."
Marcus looked toward Noah. "Then tell me." Noah froze. "How did he die?" His voice cracked. "I know you have an idea." Marcus took a step closer. "How did Ashton Lane die?"
Noah’s eyes instinctively moved toward Lysander. The demon was already looking at him. There was no hesitation in his expression—only certainty.
Lysander stepped forward. "I killed him."
Everyone froze.
"I pushed that motherfucker out of the building."
Noah’s eyes widened.
Lysander’s voice remained cold. "I did it to bring Noah here, and I don’t regret it for a single day."
Marcus’s face twisted. "What?"
Lysander didn’t even flinch. "So if you’re feeling pressed about it, you can go suck a ball."
That was all it took. Marcus launched himself at Lysander. The impact sent them both crashing into the furniture. Marcus punched him hard. Once. Twice. Again. His eyes were filled with tears as he struck Lysander’s chest.
"How could you?" Lysander barely moved. "How could you, Lysander?" Marcus’s voice broke completely.
The other Alphas stood in shock. Even Eugene looked stunned. He hadn’t expected the truth to come out like this—not now, not this brutally.
Noah stood frozen. His entire body was trembling. He had known Lysander was responsible. He had known what happened. But hearing him say it aloud in front of the others made everything feel painfully real.
Marcus punched Lysander again. "How could you do that to him?"
Lysander finally caught his wrist. His eyes turned dangerously dark. But before he could retaliate, Eugene moved. He ignored the fight completely and went straight toward Noah. The moment he reached him, Eugene wrapped his arms around his trembling body.
Noah stiffened. Then Eugene pulled him closer. "It’s okay." His voice was soft. "You’ve tried." He pressed a gentle kiss against Noah’s forehead. "Come here, baby."
Noah’s eyes closed.
