Too Late For Regrets: I Sold My Soul To The New Intern
Chapter 110: Too Bad
Corrine had seen and witnessed so much in the last few days of her rebirth to know it wasn’t nothing.
Corrine had this unsettling feeling that Stylie knew something. It could even be much more than she was aware of. Which made this intern of hers the most interesting of all.
She had only thought she was just one sweet, clueless foreigner trying to make a living in a strange land. But it turns out, those deep blue eyes were wise and observant enough to notice patterns and see the colors of a red flag.
Corrine was more interested in having a one on one talk with her anytime.
She probably didn’t feel comfortable pouring out her thoughts to the people that thought she was crazy simply because she felt restless about her safety.
Whatever it was she knew or had seen...
’’It’s nothing boss,’’ she said weakly again, causing a deep wound in everyone’s heart. She sniffed, ’’I am just glad you are fine.’’
She turned to her seniors and stared especially at Lin who looked the most devastated and heartbroken by her words.
’’I am just glad we are all fine.’’
She managed a fake smile and it was then Corrine was certain she might have someone who is also lost in a strange world of weirdos or was unfortunate to be entangled up in their business and dark secrets.
’’Yes, that’s just it.’’
She might have been able to fool Berry and Lin but not Corrine.
After a long silence between them, Corrine stepped forward, close enough to give her old intern a hug.
One that surprised everyone because they have known their boss not to be the affectionate type.
Stylie’s eyes widened the entire time Corrine embraced her.
Corrine slowly pulled away and their eyes met.
Corrine only nodded at her before returning to her original post.
’’You should feel better now after that hug.’’
Stylie...blinked.
’’Stop stressing out your seniors and apologise for making them all worried for nothing.’’
Berry stared at Stylie, noticed how she tensed up like a statue before slowly facing them to apologise for stressing them all out unnecessarily.
She wanted to go down on her knees but Lin was quick enough to stop her from doing so. She stared at him with wide, glossy eyes.
’’It’s alright, you don’t need to do this. I was never angry or mad at you. I was just worried because I had never seen you act like this. I admit I went overboard too and couldn’t get a better grip over my emotions....’’ Lin stared briefly at Berry who looked away quickly, refusing to make eye contact at him.
’’I should be the one apologising and I honestly do not mean everything I once said to you both. Sincerely.’’
’’I am sorry.’’
Berry’s icy heart melted but his apology wasn’t enough to make her look at him. Corrine noticed and raised an eyebrow at her.
It was enough to weaken her resolve to never speak with her hardworking bean and she turned around hesitantly and said with a frown.
’’I am sorry for not handling my emotions better as well. I challenged and blamed you when you were probably feeling the same thing I felt to see our younger sister be this unnecessarily stressed over nothing.’’
Stylie’s heart warmed when she heard them call her their younger sister.
Then she glared hard at Lin who looked ready to do anything to earn her forgiveness. The look he gave her was enough to weaken her desire to hold a long grudge against him.
Or maybe because she was the type who wasn’t used to holding grudges with people.
She forgave him and it was more than enough to lighten the moon and clear the air.
It made Stylie smile as she watched them both stare at each other. Lin looked the most grateful, his smile as bright as the mid morning sun above.
It lessened the burden placed on Corrine’s shoulder and she was happy to see them all in one accord again.
Hell, they were in the territory of monsters. At hell’s doorstep. The least they should do to each other is keeping malice or having disagreements with each other.
If she ever truly wanted to break free from this place, she would need them. She would need them to be together as one.
Now, it was clearer that Stylie knew something the others were too blind to see.
She had always had a feeling that Stylie was the least under the heavy influence of the serpent behind her. If she was before, she wasn’t anymore.
Corrine needed to secure an opportunity to know what she knows. And it’s impossible to rub minds freely when they are surrounded by clueless ones and the very thing that could threaten their existence watching them like a wolf in sheep’s clothing behind.
The mere thought of him and what she had seen him become brought fresh goosebumps and the hair at her nape standing on end.
She turned to Stylie again and they both nodded at each other.
She just needs to create an opportunity and she will make one soon. But not now.
Once Lin, Berry and Stylie had settled their differences, Berry announced she needed to be somewhere before the day ended.
She needed to convert something into a word document and have it submitted before the end of the day.
Before Corrine had the chance to ask what it was about, the three stepped closer to give her one final hug.
’’Will you be staying here for a while Boss or when would you be returning home?’’ Lin asked what the other two were thinking as well.
Corrine wondered how to tell them that there would be ’’no homecoming’’ for a while even if she desires to return.
She gave them all her brightest smile...well, even if it was considered a real smile and told them frankly, ’’My health isn’t really in good shape at the moment.’’
’’I am fine, I am fine. I am alright,’’ she said quickly before they started worrying again.
’’I just need to stay here for a while and be closely observed by the doctor in charge of me. He lives here as well so it makes things much more easier should in case anything happens.’’
Berry and Lin nodded in understanding.
’’Well, I would be coming over again to bring you new clothes Boss that you can change into until your stay here is over.’’
’’No need to worry about that.’’
Corrine’s mood soured as her employees all shifted their gaze to the new intern that finally had the guts to approach them.
That sick innocent smile on his face still and it nerved Corrine to see how well-behaved and effortlessly attractive he could become when he wants to.
His tall figure and how he always has this subtle look that he was in control of everything—of every situation infuriated her the most.
He felt her burning glares on him the entire time he related freely with her employees and it amused him each day to know how deep the well of hatred for him was in her heart.
He turned to look at her slowly.
The gold in those fake brown eyes flashing briefly as the monster hiding within him revealed itself.
That look he gave her made her heart restless and for a moment she thought of risking it all and running with her friends now that she had the chance.
But Corrine wasn’t bold enough to risk the safety of her friends as well if she tried to run.
And that annoyed her the most.
’’I already have all that arranged to ensure her stay in my place is comfortable.’’
She kept looking at him. If looks could kill, he should be dead by now.
’’Oh, that’s great and so nice of you, Grim. Thank you so much. We remain forever indebted to you for your kindness.’’
He smiled, giving her ’’a small ’you are always welcome’ nod. And he meant it.
Corrine stopped giving him that hard look the moment they all entered Berry’s car and drove off.
Then the creature beside her sighed several times to annoy her, intentionally disturbing the silence that followed after they left. He would turn to her and smile each time he annoyed her. Obviously, trying to get her to talk to him.
He became so desperate that he turned fully and opened his mouth to say something.
But she left his mouth hanging when Corrine turned on her heels and began to walk inside the building.
His eyes gleamed with interest as he fell in love with her a thousand times over. His mouth slowly falling close as he watched her sway those hips as she moved, her hair blowing in the wind as she moved quickly to get away from him.
And it aroused something dangerous within him.
Too bad, Anais. I wanted to take you somewhere private to love every inch of you.
A small smile of amusement curved at the corner of his lip.
It excites me more when I let you be in control.
Too bad, I am becoming desperate to make you fall for me before my mark fades on you.
Have your fun as my patience wears thin.
