Chapter 1597: Chapter 510: There’s Love Between Us (2)
"Right now the Mechanical City is still relatively normal. There are some things Yuan is still pondering, waiting for you to make the call."
Wen Xishu didn’t ask further.
The two of them passed through layer after layer of sealed mechanical gates, then finally walked down a long corridor and arrived at a place ringed by countless screens, like a vast plaza.
At the very center of the plaza, directly facing the countless floating screens... was a Mechanical Throne.
And on the throne sat Yuan.
Yuan had changed her clothes; the "assistant outfit" she’d worn for many years had been replaced by a white long dress.
Even her hair was no longer short and silver, but long and slightly wavy.
Yuan at this moment was drastically different from before; she looked much more like an empress now.
"Aunt Yuan, Brother Shu woke up." Zhou Xiaoxiao’s voice was very soft, yet in this empty space it actually got amplified.
"Xiaoxiao, you go down first. There are some things I want to say to him." Yuan spoke with a smile.
The coolness was gone from her brows and eyes; now Yuan gave off a sense of closeness.
Zhou Xiaoxiao left, very sensible.
Yuan raised her hand, and all the floating screens in the sky lit up with images.
A seat appeared beneath Wen Xishu’s feet as well.
"Sit. This is what the Mechanical City looks like now."
Through the screens, Wen Xishu could see many members of the Mechanical Race lined up in queues, seemingly on their way to the Mechanical residence where the Zeroer lived.
"I will give them a choice. If they’re willing to turn back into humans, I’ll let them live in human form. Once they return to being human, they can leave the Mechanical City."
"I won’t provide them shelter, but they can choose to stay in the Mechanical City—only if they stay, they must accept that they are members of the Mechanical Race."
"Do you think this is workable? If you have any ideas, you can tell me—I’ll prioritize carrying out your ideas, even if they’re unreasonable."
Wen Xishu said:
"Why?"
Yuan said:
"While you were unconscious, Xiaoxiao told me your story. Although you two didn’t spend much time together, every word you said shook him deeply."
"I believe you were right."
"Especially in how you judged me—I used numbers to cover up my own childishness, used information to cover up my shortcomings as a person."
"I hope I can learn from you. It’s also because of you that I’ve been able to break free from the past. This is something... I’ve never experienced before. It’s like the core code written in my underlying layers suddenly detached from its dependence on someone else and began to explore life on its own."
"I once saw a line: ’With a single thought, heaven and earth widen.’ I can easily decipher the meaning of this sentence by integrating information. But that’s only like a student handing in an exam paper. I couldn’t understand it myself."
"Now, I can."
Wen Xishu felt gratified. At this moment he was shrouded by his failure to return, but after all, he was someone who had grasped the ’heart that goes ever forward’; he wasn’t trapped by failure, but thinking about how to resolve it.
Hearing Yuan say these things now made him genuinely happy.
"The coming of the apocalypse often produces a very twisted situation. I have a younger sister—well, forget it, I’ll just say who she is, you should’ve heard of her, she’s called Aquarius."
Yuan nodded. She already knew Wen Xishu was someone who could call those constellations ’brothers’. Strange as it was, those constellations seemed to accept it.
"She once said that in the apocalypse, kindness is weakness, and evil is strength. Only by inverting good and evil can you protect the kind."
"I also went through something like that. There was a guy called Cosmetic Surgery Family. The way I beat him was by awakening his goodness, letting him feel the one and only... kind thought of his life—and then he lost."
Yuan listened intently:
"I don’t think you’re trying to tell me I should become... evil?"
Wen Xishu nodded:
"Right, that’s not what I’m telling you. On the contrary, you’re one of the very few who can possess kindness and still be strong."
"Xiaoxiao is a very good child. Li Wei’an and Zhou Ming have taught him well. He will become a hero."
"Maybe... some kind of fate has already chosen him. His experiences are actually quite legendary in their own way."
"I hope Xiaoxiao is a kind person, and I hope you are a kind person."
"You now have the freedom to seek your own direction in life. I just want to tell you: the things Li Wei’an failed to do don’t mean she was wrong; they mean her power was limited. So... I hope you can take up her will and teach Xiaoxiao well."
"I believe that growing up under this kind of will, Xiaoxiao will be a great influence on you too."
Yuan nodded, then suddenly stood up.
"There’s something I’d like to beg of you."
The word "beg" made Wen Xishu a little nervous.
Yuan said:
"I’ve come to understand many things, but I also want to try to understand... the feelings between Zhou Ming and Li Wei’an."
"I need a counterpart for that. And I can tell that Xiaoxiao really looks up to you."
"I want to construct a romance with you. If you’re willing, I can write into my mechanical core the most loyal, never-betraying code that you humans long for."
"I also hope your presence can make up for the regret caused by Zhou Ming’s absence, so that Xiaoxiao can feel... a more complete kind of love."
Wen Xishu was stunned. He really hadn’t expected Yuan to say something like that.
Good thing he hadn’t been drinking water, or Yuan’s words would have shocked him enough to spit it out.
