Chapter 1593: Chapter 509: Heart of Relentless Forward Motion (Part 3)
In the sky, the "Li Wei’an" lightly flicked a finger, and a crystal-clear, dazzling core rose up from the dust. Then countless specks of dust wrapped around it, forming a Yuan whose face was frozen in eternal pain.
Only unlike the real Yuan, this suffering Yuan seemed like a ghost, and this ghost was wrapped around by countless dark red cocoons.
At this moment, neither the ghost nor "Li Wei’an" paid any attention to Wen Xishu, who possessed overwhelming combat strength. On the contrary, they turned their gaze to Zhou Xiaoxiao.
"Xiaoxiao... my good child."
Yuan’s and Li Wei’an’s voices overlapped as one, and that voice seemed to carry a certain Magic Power, bewitching Zhou Xiaoxiao.
Zhou Xiaoxiao’s mind surged in an instant, his eyes turning somewhat clouded:
"Mom... Yuan..."
He walked forward involuntarily.
Wen Xishu suddenly blocked his path:
"Snap out of it. That’s not your mom—that’s Yuan’s Heart Demon. And Yuan is not your Yuan either... that’s the kindness in her that’s been imprisoned."
Zhou Xiaoxiao suddenly came to, and much of the haze in his eyes dispersed.
Wen Xishu immediately launched an Ultimate Kick. The terrifying strength in his legs was not aimed at attacking Li Wei’an, but at carrying Zhou Xiaoxiao away in a single leap.
With that retreat, they withdrew dozens of zhang, and the distance between them and Li Wei’an opened up at once.
"Xiaoxiao... come here, Xiaoxiao, come to mom!"
The resentful voice of "Li Wei’an" echoed through the entire scene. Zhou Xiaoxiao clutched his ears, wracked with pain. His consciousness told him that was not his mother.
Yet another force kept calling forth his longing for her, making him almost unable to stop himself from sprinting over to embrace her.
Wen Xishu realized that Zhou Xiaoxiao was still lucid in this moment, not completely ensnared. He said:
"Listen to me: that is your mother’s Heart Demon. When a kind person receives far too great a gift, they will subconsciously become trapped by that gift."
"That’s what happened to your Yuan. Her life was bestowed by your mother, and your mother even died to protect her—that’s equivalent to giving her a second life."
"She can never repay such sacrifice, and so she became imprisoned by that emotion."
"She has also yearned to step out of these memories, but the moment she thinks of your mother, the vast grief drags her back in. And thus, such a Heart Demon was born."
"What you’re seeing is a monster piled together by remorse and guilt. It’s not your mother, and its very existence keeps your Yuan from ever walking out of the shadow of the past!"
"Now... we’re going to destroy it!"
Zhou Xiaoxiao didn’t fully understand, but he could grasp some of it.
People are truly complicated. He had thought only loving someone would give birth to guilt and regret, yet he hadn’t realized that guilt and regret would in turn breed a Heart Demon.
"It’s calling you back into the past. Maybe... that means only you can possibly get rid of it."
"Xiaoxiao, I’ll find a chance to weaken it, and you... must find a way to kill it completely!"
"Li Wei’an" seemed to sense some kind of danger, and resentment surfaced on her face:
"Yuan... Xiaoxiao, are you planning to forget me!"
"Xiaoxiao! I’m your mom! Living here together with me—isn’t that good? Why are you stopping your Yuan from creating a world with just the three of us!"
Zhou Xiaoxiao collapsed to his knees in agony. He clutched his ears, his consciousness thrown into chaos.
Countless dark red arms split off from "Li Wei’an"’s body.
They lunged toward Zhou Xiaoxiao.
Without a word, Wen Xishu scooped Zhou Xiaoxiao into his arms and began to dodge again and again using Ultimate Kick.
In the middle of it, Wen Xishu also tried to fight back...
But it was no use. Every bit of force he unleashed passed straight through those dark red energies, as if striking a patch of nothingness.
What made no sense was that he could not land a hit, yet those dark red energies, as long as they approached him, could make him feel a certain surge in his consciousness.
That dark red energy that could strip away the life traits of the Mechanical Race worked even on Wen Xishu inside this memory!
At this moment, Wen Xishu was already pushed to the brink.
All of his offensive means were completely unable to land on the enemy, whereas the enemy’s attacks only needed to touch him to take his life.
This unreasonable tilt in the rules forced Wen Xishu into nothing but frantic flight, relying on Ultimate Kick to keep dodging.
Yet his maneuvering space kept shrinking.
Because those dark red arms splitting off from "Li Wei’an" were growing more and more numerous, more and more dense, as if they meant to fill the entire space.
In that instant, even without borrowing Pisces’s power, Wen Xishu could see clearly... he would die here.
Sooner or later, he was bound to be seized by those hands.
He suddenly stopped. He set Zhou Xiaoxiao down.
"Xiaoxiao, I probably won’t be able to leave here alive."
"Brother Shu..." Zhou Xiaoxiao was at a loss.
He could only stare blankly at Wen Xishu. In his eyes, Wen Xishu had not given up.
On the contrary, when he spoke these words, Wen Xishu’s eyes held a firm resolve.
"I’ve always wondered where my journey would end... On which twisted soul I’d crash while trying to save them. But odds are... it’s here and now."
"Don’t be afraid. I believe that power won’t hurt you, but it may cause you to lose yourself within it."
Zhou Xiaoxiao shook his head again and again. Though he hadn’t known Wen Xishu for long, inexplicably, it felt like he’d met a teacher he could truly trust. He did not want Wen Xishu to just die like this.
