This Heroine's Friend Has the Power of Botany
Chapter 313: The Black Grass Demon
Chapter 313
The Black Grass Demon
“Option Two: Hide in shadows and darkness to attack enemies with sharp thorn spears.”
Ellie activated the runes for the last time before tossing the stack to Aman. The runes could only withstand 1 or 2 attacks at most, as the magic force was too intense for prolonged defense. Therefore, they had to use all the runes continuously, while also allowing her little fairy to absorb some of the surrounding magic. The magic power was indeed immense, resulting in her Black Fairy advancing another level.
After all...this was a battlefield with over 2,000 level 5 beasts, so it was no wonder the growth was so rapid!! Not only did her little Fairy benefit, but her Purple Mushroom also decomposed and absorbed a lot of life force, making this a fantastic harvest for everyone.
Ellie immediately commanded her little Fairy to use its attack skill once she saw its power had significantly increased. Now at level 2, from attacking with sharp thorns for option two, it turned into attacking enemies with sharp thorn spears!
The Black Fairy’s vines moved swiftly, some continuously absorbing magic power and blossoming into flowers. The field was soon filled with Black Fairy flowers, looking more terrifying than beautiful. Seeing this sight, however, the hunters of the Setter family felt relieved more than anything. With the power of their future lady being so great, they were confident they would survive this battle.
Ellie no longer focused on handling the magic attacks. Aman was still busy using the runes fervently. In truth, he never thought that using runes would be so exhausting. While Ellie seemed to throw them effortlessly, he realized it required significant concentration when he had to do it himself.
One hand held the magical runes while the other held a magic restorative potion. Activating the runes required a considerable amount of magic power, and the speed of activation was very high, necessitating the use of restorative potions.
Some of her vines disappeared from view, hiding in the shadows and becoming part of the shadows. Even Ellie, their owner, couldn’t detect their life forces or magic powers flowing out without the owner’s special sight. It was a perfect camouflage.
It didn’t take long for the vines to reach the first Naemorhedus beast. Ellie observed its attacks carefully, hoping the strike would be swift and lethal, killing the enemy in one fell swoop. Unfortunately, its power was still insufficient. Despite the incredible speed that made it hard to see, the force needed to pierce through and kill the enemy in one strike was lacking.
Luckily, the Naemorhedus’s bodies were fragile. Once within reach, the vines inflicted severe injuries. Although they didn’t die immediately, the successive thorn spear attacks eventually finished them off.
Ellie nodded in satisfaction at the scene, but everyone else who witnessed it was uneased, feeling a chill down their spines. What was this powerful and lightning-fast power they couldn’t even follow with their eyes?!
“Option Four: Create a Black Fairy Field.” Now that it had come to this, Ellie wanted to test all the power of her bonded plant. Besides, this situation, brimming with magic power, would help increase their levels, and she didn’t want to waste the opportunity.
When the next command was given, the little Black Fairy scattered in all directions. Using this option meant losing direct control. Previously, Ellie had to use her consciousness to direct it, but with this option, they disregarded everything in front of them, focusing only on absorbing magic power and spreading out. The absorbed magic power included both the Naemorhedus’s and some leaking from the Setter family members.
No wonder they initially felt like their power was being drained. This skill seemed dangerous and not something Ellie should use too often.
Fortunately, the amount of leaked magic power wasn’t that significant. So, after the expansion filled the room, Ellie commanded them to stop. There was no need to wrap around everything to the ceiling, leaving no breathing space. After the growth ceased, the little Black Fairy benefited immensely. No matter what battle they fought, the little Black Fairy absorbed magic power every time, and its flowers multiplied rapidly, almost uncontrollably.
The Naemorhedus sensed that this grass field was a problem because they couldn’t use their botanic spell. Even their fire spell was ineffective. As a result, they became more rampage, ultimately entering a berserk state!
Boom, boom, boom!!
The magical rune barriers were destroyed in an instant. The beasts were already formidable, but now, with many in a berserk state, the damage increased exponentially. Despite Ellie’s efforts to have her little Fairy absorb the magic power, the intensity and speed of the Naemorhedus’s magic power became too much to handle.
The members of the Setter family tried everything they had but still suffered many injuries. Initially, they had over 2,000 challengers, but now only 2,000 remained, and that number was still decreasing. This meant around 100 people had already lost their lives in this battle.
“Damn it!! These beasts are too strong!”
“Is the 7th floor hell or what? How can we gather resources here?”
“Maybe in another 100 years, we might be able to challenge this place again. Their power is too strong, and their speed is no less. Keeping up with them is hard enough, let alone finding an opportunity to attack!”
“Stop talking. Argh!! We can’t hold them off here. Even my combined magical rune and barrier spell can’t do anything.”
“Don’t be too afraid. Our job is to protect ourselves and survive. Leave the fighting to the Eldest Young Lord!”
“But before the Eldest Young Lord can deal with these beasts, we might die first!” Hearing everyone’s complaints, Aman, sweating profusely, felt extremely frustrated. Why was using magical runes so infuriating? He had to be alert, activate the barrier in time, expend magic power, and drink restorative potions simultaneously. He wanted to join the fight and unleash his magic power, but instead, he had to stand still and focus on defense.
“Koross, take over this task for me quickly. I’ll go...”
“Second Young Lord, Duchess Ellie assigned this duty to me. I dare not shirk it.” Koross totally ignored Aman’s expression, letting him fume while standing beside Ellie to help her fend off attacks. At the very least, if it came to a life-threatening situation, he was prepared to sacrifice himself to protect her.
Ellie didn’t pay attention to other people’s actions, she focused entirely on gathering magic power, all of this was to activate option 3.
Over 1 minute passed, and the screams of the Setter family hunters continued. Losses were ongoing, but if nothing was done, it would only get worse. Finally, Ellie managed a smile.
“Option Three: Gather magic power and transform into a Black Fairy to devour enemies!!”
It turned out that Ellie had been gathering magic power all along. Creating the Black Fairy Field earlier was to prepare for activating option 3. To accelerate the accumulation of power, establishing the grass field to subtend all the magic power was essential. Ellie didn’t even use option two, despite knowing it could kill the Naemorhedus beasts, because she aimed for a higher level of attack power.
As the girl’s command ended, the Black Fairy Field that had spread across the entire arena floor began to retract. The vines gradually gathered in front of Ellie, forming a massive Black Fairy over 7 meters tall!
“W-What is that?”
“Is this Duchess Ellie’s power?”
“Did those vines merge into this giant demon?” The family hunters within Ellie’s protective domain exclaimed. Initially, they feared when Ellie suddenly retracted her defensive power, but instead...the vines had combined into a giant, more formidable entity.
Previously, the little fairy could open its mouth to absorb all the enemy’s magic power. Now, the large Black Fairy, resembling a demon, opened its wide mouth to do something even more formidable.
The Naemorhedus knew their strength lay in aerial combat. They used the air and wind magic power to their advantage. Many humans couldn’t attack effectively in the air, so the Naemorhedus could play around easily. Additionally, their speed made them escape extremely quick, and the distance they maintained from their enemies slowed down any attempts to take them down.
However, the sudden appearance of the large Black Fairy, formed from all the spreading vines across the field, disrupted their combat strategy. Who would have known the Black Fairy’s power could be this overwhelming?!
Its gigantic form was terrifying, but even more frightening was the “thorn spears” covering the Black Fairy’s body. These spears moved so quickly that even the frenzied Naemorhedus couldn’t evade them. The body of the Black Fairy was immense, and the thorn spears continuously and rapidly emerged from it. After impaling and killing the enemies in a single strike, the spears transformed into hands that grabbed and dragged the prey into its mouth.
Some of the Naemorhedus corpses Ellie left as food for the Purple Mushroom, but most became sustenance for her not-so-little Black Fairy.
With just a single movement from the little Black Fairy, the dozens of Naemorhedus causing trouble around them fell dead instantly. This was the power of the Black Fairy at level 3, after absorbing a lot of magic power of superior beasts. It wasn’t surprising that the recent attack could kill level 5 beasts in one hit. Even the little Purple Mushroom had now reached level 5, thanks to decomposing numerous enemy corpses and helping to end the last breaths of the Naemorhedus. The only one lagging was the little Apple, still at level 4, without any significant progress.
"Black Grass Demon" became a name even the Setter family feared.
Previously, if anyone in the family looked down on Duchess Ellie as a weak botanic magic user, some might have hung their head low because they felt the same way. But after fighting alongside her in this battle, they would no longer tolerate such talk! They were ready to retort, “How could someone chosen by the Eldest Young Lord be weak?!!” just as the clever second young lord often said.
They once thought the second young lord was just overly respectful of his older brother, to the point of seeming foolish. But now...they realized how foolish they themselves had been. And they even had the nerve to call others stupid!!
With the Naemorhedus being swiftly dealt with—10 dying in 10 seconds—the Setter family hunters could finally catch their breath. Ellie herself had to continuously drink restorative potions. Though she was absorbing others’ magic power, she still had to use a lot of her own.
Pushing her limits, Ellie broke through this bottleneck and reached level 5 as a magic user!!
In the Ares Kingdom, those who openly declared their level 5 status could be counted on one hand. Now, Ellie was among the strongest in the kingdom...Perhaps even Professor Medik couldn’t match her power anymore.
Ellie didn’t dwell on her increased power. More power meant a larger reservoir to fill. It would take her a long time to fill it up. She knew her advancement to level 5 was partly due to the Purple Mushroom leveling up and the rapid progression of her bonded Black Fairy. Without these, she wouldn’t have jumped from level 4 to level 5 so quickly!
“Ellie...you...” Aman was stunned by the powerful attacks of her bonded plant. He didn’t know what to say. Earlier, he had urged Ellie to show her secret cards as much as she could, but he never imagined her cards would be this strong. This level of power was beyond what he could easily accept.
“You don’t have to be jealous of me. When we get back, I’ll give you the Pure Flame Dragon herb as a reward,” Ellie said, causing Aman’s eyebrows to twitch violently.
How could this kid be so arrogant, daring to treat him like a little boy asking for a reward after doing a little hard task?...
“Good!”
Even though he wanted to pinch her cheeks red out of annoyance, he considered his own benefits and decided not to. Instead, he smiled and accepted the Pure Flame Dragon herb to enhance himself.
Why would he refuse such a valuable gift!? Only a fool would do that!!
