Chapter 293: Chapter 158: Xu Xiyue Wants to Jump

"Thank you, everyone, for your past dedication. I know you’ve all poured your professionalism and passion into this company."

"Looking ahead, I’m excited to explore more possibilities with all of you. I have no intention of blindly tearing down what you’ve already accomplished. Instead, we’ll refine our work and grow together."

"This company can’t grow without the value each of you brings. So, I hope you’ll all carry on with your work as usual. Let’s keep up the great work!"

Chen Mo thought for a moment, then addressed the crowd with a faint smile.

His speech had two goals.

First, to make sure every employee knew who he was—the new boss.

Second, to steady the troops.

The first point was self-explanatory. Otherwise, would he have to introduce himself just to get into his own company every time, like he did today?

If the employees didn’t recognize him as he walked through the office, no one would listen to him.

’Would this even be his company at that point?’

The second point was also crucial.

The company was in a transition period, and morale among the rank-and-file couldn’t be allowed to falter.

That’s why Chen Mo affirmed everyone’s skills and their dedication to the company.

He also indicated that he wouldn’t rashly axe existing projects or immediately conduct a sweeping purge of the staff.

He made it clear that the company would maintain the status quo, allowing everyone to carry on with their work as usual.

"President Chen is brilliant!"

After his speech, the office erupted in a round of applause even more fervent than before.

The executives who were planning to resign were unfazed, but the middle managers and regular employees all let out a collective sigh of relief.

They relaxed considerably.

Everyone had been on edge before, panicking.

They were afraid their projects would get canceled, or that the new boss would suddenly "optimize" them out of a job.

But now, it seemed the new boss had no such intentions.

Not only did he not plan on cutting projects or staff, but he had also publicly affirmed their value and abilities.

Furthermore, judging from Chen Mo’s tone and words, he didn’t have that condescending, father-knows-best attitude.

’A young boss really is different.’

"There will be some changes in management coming up, which will create new opportunities. I hope you all work hard. Let’s strive for success together."

Chen Mo then dropped another hint for them.

With the general manager and others departing, management positions would naturally open up.

Middle managers would have a chance to be promoted to the executive level, and regular employees would have a chance to be promoted to middle management.

This wasn’t just him making empty promises.

On the one hand, it would motivate the staff and ignite their passion for their work.

On the other, it would help him identify talent, ensuring he wouldn’t be left with no capable people to rely on.

"Thank you, President Chen! We’ll work hard! We’re confident that under your leadership, Panshi Venture Capital will scale new peaks and achieve unprecedented success!"

The words had barely left Chen Mo’s mouth when a male employee in his early thirties stood up. He looked at Chen Mo with a deadly serious expression and spoke.

Hearing this, Chen Mo gave the man an appreciative glance.

’This guy has a future.’

’No wonder leaders love people who know how to talk and suck up.’

’Who wouldn’t be happy to hear that?’

"President Chen, your sharp vision will undoubtedly lead Panshi Venture Capital to..."

The other employees finally caught on and scrambled to offer their own flattery.

Afterward, they shot the first man to speak a look filled with envy and resentment.

’Damn it, that bastard is quick on the draw.’

’The brown-nosing just rolled off his tongue, he didn’t even wait for the rest of us.’

’That’s just low.’

’The opportunity to get some face time with the new boss, to make a memorable first impression, was snatched away just like that.’

They were all kicking themselves, cursing their slow reflexes.

"Alright, everyone get back to work. The executive team, let’s have a meeting in the conference room."

Seeing the relentless stream of flattery, Chen Mo could only wave a dismissive hand and leave the main office area.

He led the executives off to the meeting.

In the conference room, Chen Mo got up to speed on the status of each department and their current investment projects.

He also learned who was resigning, forcing him to consider which of the resulting vacancies could be filled through internal promotions and which would require hiring external talent.

The general manager and the other departing executives began the process of handing over their duties.

In effect, the work of multiple executives was suddenly dumped on his shoulders.

This included complex matters like corporate management, financial ledgers, and human resources.

In short, from that day forward, Chen Mo became incredibly busy.

He was in the office from early morning until late at night.

This went on for a whole week.

’This isn’t being a boss, this is more exhausting than being the lowest-level grunt.’

Worse, there were many tasks he had never handled before and was unfamiliar with.

In the end, he had no choice but to pick a few middle managers from various departments to temporarily help him manage departmental affairs. Only then did things ease up a little.

’Time to get some air.’

Chen Mo pulled out a pack of Hua Zi and a lighter, then took the elevator to the building’s rooftop.

He had been coming up here to clear his head for the past few nights, occasionally smoking a Hua Zi to de-stress.

Once on the roof, he lit a Hua Zi and took a couple of drags.

The gentle evening breeze blew against him, and he felt the tension start to melt away.

CLINK~

Just then, Chen Mo heard a faint noise.

It sounded like a glass bottle hitting the ground.

He looked toward the sound and saw a woman, not far from him, climbing over the rooftop’s safety railing.

Seeing this, Chen Mo was startled. ’Is she going to jump?’

The roof was over three hundred meters from the ground. A jump from this high would have only one outcome.

He quickly stubbed out the Hua Zi between his fingers and sprinted toward her.

He was fast, but by the time he reached her, the woman was already halfway over the edge.

In a flash, Chen Mo threw his arms around her upper body and, with a powerful heave, hauled her back over the railing.

Chen Mo caught the faint scent of perfume mixed with the strong reek of alcohol.

Feeling the sheer height of Mount Everest in his palms, Chen Mo couldn’t help but glance down.

At that exact moment, the woman turned her head, as if to see who was stopping her.

Their eyes met, and Chen Mo saw her face.

When he saw her, he froze.

He knew this person—or rather, he had seen her photograph.

She was the very person he had been thinking of constantly for the past few days.

It was Xu Xiyue.
