Chapter 77 - 76: Big Handsome Guy and Little Handsome Guy
Chapter 77: Chapter 76: Big Handsome Guy and Little Handsome Guy
If she ever dared to say that to Sister Momo’s face, Sister Momo would definitely skin her alive.
As noon approached, the cafeteria gradually filled with people. Xu Xiaoka quickly finished her coffee, feeling much more energized. Seeing a line already forming in front of the sour cabbage fish counter, she hurried over to help.
As the crowd in the cafeteria grew, the various food counters became busy. Gu Rongjin carried Chen Xiaobao with one arm. The handsome man and the adorable little boy inspected the different counters together.
This striking duo of "big and little heartthrobs" caught everyone’s eye. Even the busy counter owners couldn’t help but look up to steal a few extra glances. Not to mention the diners—especially the middle-aged women. As mothers themselves, they inherently loved children. Seeing Chen Xiaobao in Gu Rongjin’s arms, they simply couldn’t tear their eyes away.
"Wow, is that the Base Chief’s son? He is so handsome!"
"The Base Chief is already incredibly handsome. With such good genes, of course his son would be handsome too!"
"I don’t think so... To me, the Base Chief doesn’t really look like the kid in his arms. I heard the Base Chief is still unmarried."
Chatter rippled through the dining tables. The women who adored children smiled so widely at the sight of Xiao Bao that the corners of their eyes crinkled with joy. They wondered how a child could be so adorable. They wanted nothing more than to give him a hug. Looking at that handsome yet incredibly cute little face, they had the overwhelming urge to pinch his cheeks.
As for the young women, they gazed at Gu Rongjin with total infatuation.
"Wow, the Base Chief is totally a long-legged dreamboat."
"Is that his son he’s carrying? The two of them could be on a magazine cover!"
"Sigh, what a letdown. Is the Base Chief already married?"
Gu Rongjin was clearly oblivious to the fact that his inspection tour around the counters with Xiao Bao in his arms had successfully attracted countless stares.
Among those staring was Huang Yuqing.
Ever since getting married, Huang Yuqing rarely cooked. Before the apocalypse, her family had a housekeeper who handled all the meals. Even after the apocalypse, once they arrived at the base, she remained unwilling to cook. Although Yang Shunsheng had a huge problem with this, he was utterly helpless. After all, Huang Yuqing had completely revealed her shrewish nature after giving birth. She would pick massive fights with him at the drop of a hat, making communication impossible. Ultimately, Yang Shunsheng gave up trying to persuade her to cook at home, and the couple often came to the cafeteria for their meals instead.
At this moment, Huang Yuqing’s eyes were glued to Gu Rongjin’s figure. Tall, handsome, and standing perfectly straight in his uniform, he had a side profile that looked as if it were sculpted by the gods. Furthermore, his deep eyes were the kind that could make anyone melt with a single glance.
Truthfully, a man like the Base Chief was Huang Yuqing’s ideal type from her youth. However, pressured by the need to survive, she had married Yang Shunsheng.
Huang Yuqing called out to her husband sitting across from her. "Yang Shunsheng, the Base Chief’s son looks just like your son. Look!"
She had only just noticed it herself. When the Base Chief walked past the counter behind them holding a handsome little boy, Huang Yuqing got a clear look at the child’s face. Upon closer inspection, the child looked strikingly similar to Yang Shunsheng’s son, Xiao Bao! Eager to share this shocking discovery, she hurriedly told Yang Shunsheng.
Yang Shunsheng had been busy stuffing his face. Unlike Huang Yuqing, he had no interest in handsome men, so he hadn’t even realized his wife’s eyes had been following the Base Chief for quite a while.
He looked up and immediately spotted the uniformed Gu Rongjin standing out from the crowd. When his gaze landed on the handsome little boy in Gu Rongjin’s arms, Yang Shunsheng jolted in shock.
The boy didn’t just *look* like his son. That *was* his son! He wondered why Xiao Bao was being held by the Base Chief.
Disregarding the food still stuffed in his mouth, Yang Shunsheng completely forgot to chew, his eyes locked blankly onto Xiao Bao.
He watched as Xiao Bao and Gu Rongjin acted incredibly affectionate with each other. The boy would occasionally whisper into Gu Rongjin’s ear, and at times, the two would exchange glances and laugh heartily. Gu Rongjin was especially attentive to Xiao Bao. While inspecting the food counters, he didn’t forget to smooth out the child’s little blue jacket, making sure Xiao Bao maintained a neat appearance. Xiao Bao was holding a roasted sweet potato, clearly bought for him by Gu Rongjin.
The two communicated without the slightest barrier, looking exactly like a real father and son.
Seeing his own son being held by another man, Yang Shunsheng immediately felt a bitter taste in his mouth. He remembered the last time he saw Xiao Bao; the boy’s attitude toward him had been utterly cold. But Xiao Bao was entirely different with Gu Rongjin—not only was he chatting and laughing, but he was also leaning comfortably on Gu Rongjin’s shoulder, munching on a sweet potato.
Xiao Bao was his biological son, yet the child’s attitude toward him was worlds apart from how he treated Gu Rongjin.
Noticing Yang Shunsheng’s unnatural expression, Huang Yuqing frowned and asked, "Yang Shunsheng, what’s wrong with you?"
Snapping back to reality, Yang Shunsheng shook his head. "Nothing."
Acting as if she had discovered a new continent, Huang Yuqing kept chattering away, "See? Am I right? The Base Chief’s son really looks exactly like your son!"
Yang Shunsheng glanced at his half-eaten bowl of egg noodles, suddenly finding the food entirely unappetizing.
"I’m full. Let’s go," Yang Shunsheng said, standing up and grabbing his coat from the empty seat beside him.
He recalled the time he went to Momo’s place to give her money, only to be shut out by Xiao Bao. Xiao Bao had even told him that Momo already had a new boyfriend. Back then, Yang Shunsheng hadn’t believed it. That was, until today, when he saw with his own eyes the Base Chief holding his son.
If the Base Chief didn’t have a close relationship with Chen Momo, why else would he be carrying Xiao Bao?
Yang Shunsheng could never have imagined that the ex-wife he abandoned would actually find a man who was not only more handsome than him but also held the highest authority in the base. The very thought of this made Yang Shunsheng’s heart churn with unbearable discomfort.
Huang Yuqing chased after Yang Shunsheng and grumbled with dissatisfaction, "What’s your problem? I knew you were acting weird back in the cafeteria! You just ran off by yourself and left me behind!"
Already in a foul mood, Yang Shunsheng frowned at her questioning and shot back, "Don’t you have legs of your own? Can’t you find your way back if I don’t wait for you?"
Instantly enraged, Huang Yuqing grabbed him. "Yang Shunsheng, what is that supposed to mean? You better explain yourself!"
Yang Shunsheng roared, "I don’t want to fight with you! Don’t push it, Huang Yuqing. I’m telling you, my patience has its limits."
Previously, his conflicts with Huang Yuqing hadn’t been so obvious. But ever since they arrived at the base, Yang Shunsheng found that the friction between them was intensifying day by day.
