Chapter 66: Chapter 65: Just You Wait

Why hadn’t he noticed this before?

Standing in a corner of the cafeteria, Yang Shunsheng watched Chen Momo bustling about from a distance, feeling a faint twinge of guilt. When they first met, Chen Momo had told him she wasn’t good at socializing. So after they got married, they divided the household responsibilities: Yang Shunsheng was the breadwinner, while Chen Momo managed the home. In fact, she had indeed kept their home in perfect order. But now, just to survive, she was forcing herself to do something she wasn’t good at.

He figured that after paying rent, Chen Momo definitely wouldn’t have much money left. He should really send some money over to her. But on second thought, he didn’t have much left himself, either. He still had to support his current wife and their son. Better just forget it for now. Once his finances loosened up a bit, he would definitely take care of Chen Momo and her son.

Watching Chen Momo, he secretly promised himself, "Momo, you’ll have to suffer a bit for now. Once I, Yang Shunsheng, make some money, I will definitely help you out so you won’t have to work so hard."

Yang Shunsheng was very confident in himself. Even before the apocalypse, he had managed to start a company through his own hard work. He could definitely do the same in the apocalypse. He would absolutely make a fortune in the base!

He stared intently at Chen Momo for a moment before turning on his heel and leaving.

The first day’s trial run went well, and all twenty fish sold out quickly. Chen Momo decided to put up a signboard for her stall and officially start selling sauerkraut fish! The signboard was an easy fix; she had stored some similar materials in her spatial dimension before the apocalypse. It was an LED sign that would light up once plugged in. As for the name, she decided to go with "Momo’s Sauerkraut Fish"!

She retrieved the LED sign from her dimension and used a marker to write "Momo’s Sauerkraut Fish" on it. Her penmanship was excellent, so the words looked perfectly natural on the sign, almost as if they had been printed there. Once finished, she hung the sign in front of her stall and plugged it in. Instantly, her sauerkraut fish window became incredibly eye-catching.

Today had only been a soft launch, mostly to gather customer feedback. Since her twenty fish were sold out and her storefront was set up, she called it a day and headed home.

Chen Xiaobao toddled over on his short little legs to greet her, his footsteps going PIT-PAT, PIT-PAT. "Mommy, where did you go? Xiao Bao hasn’t seen Mommy for hours and hours."

Hearing his voice, Xu Xiaoka also came out of the room. Seeing Chen Momo, she explained, "Sister Momo, Xiao Bao and I couldn’t wait any longer, so we ate first. I saw there were still some ingredients in the fridge, so I made beef noodle soup. I left a bowl for you in the pot."

Xiao Bao chimed in, chattering like a little bird, "Xiao Bao ate beef noodles too!"

Smiling, Chen Momo patted his head. She brought her beef noodles out of the kitchen, sat at the dining table, and said between bites, "I rented a stall in the cafeteria to sell sauerkraut fish. Business wasn’t bad. You two can come over with me later to take a look."

Xu Xiaoka was surprised. "Sister Momo, you went to rent a stall during the few hours you were gone?"

Chen Momo replied, "I did a trial run today, and I already sold out all twenty fish. We’ll be selling sauerkraut fish from now on."

Xu Xiaoka cheered happily, "That’s wonderful! I’ve been worrying all day about what we’d do if our money ran out, and I was just thinking about looking for a job to help with household expenses. I had no idea you’d rented a stall! That means I can go help out at our stall from now on!"

Xiao Bao eagerly stood on his tiptoes and tugged at Chen Momo’s arm. "Mommy, can Xiao Bao sell sauerkraut fish with Mommy too?"

Chen Momo answered as she ate her noodles, "Of course you can."

Chen Xiaobao clapped his little hands in delight. "Yay!"

That evening, Chen Momo busied herself in the kitchen for quite a while, tweaking her sauerkraut fish recipe based on the customer feedback from her soft launch. Once it was ready, she brought it out for Chen Xiaobao and Xu Xiaoka to taste test. The two of them praised it endlessly. With that, Chen Momo decided to strictly follow this recipe moving forward.

The next day, the sauerkraut fish stall officially opened for business.

Besides Chen Momo, Xu Xiaoka was also working at the stall today. Both wore black aprons, while Chen Xiaobao sat in the stall’s attached break room, hugging an iPad and watching cartoons.

Today’s sales target was fifty fish! Chen Momo took the fifty fish out of her dimension early in the morning. By noon, the number of diners coming to the cafeteria gradually began to increase. There were families with children in tow, couples on dates, and single young men and women coming by themselves. Everyone browsed the stalls, picking out their favorite dishes.

Yi Ronghao and Jiang Yunhai arrived alongside their two friends, Ouyang Feng and Song Chuhuan.

Noticing Jiang Yunhai’s appearance, Ouyang Feng teased, "Look at our friend Jiang Yunhai! He even got his hair styled today!"

Jiang Yunhai, who usually couldn’t be bothered to style his hair, had slicked it back today, making him look exceptionally mature. Song Chuhuan also chuckled. "It’s not just the hair. Didn’t you guys notice he wore a new outfit today too?"

Sure enough, Jiang Yunhai had put on his favorite turtleneck sweater. The whole look gave him the unmistakable aura of a sweet, considerate boy-next-door.

Yi Ronghao had also noticed these changes in his friend. As guys, they understood each other’s intentions all too well.

As soon as Jiang Yunhai sat down, he loudly announced that he was buying sauerkraut fish today.

Ouyang Feng glanced toward the sauerkraut fish stall and saw that a highly visible signboard had been added. "Oh, look! She got a sign!"

Jiang Yunhai turned back to look at Chen Momo. She was wearing another practical, capable-looking outfit today, but her signature hair bun remained unchanged.

"Do you guys believe me? Now that I’ve put on my most handsome clothes, there’s no way the ’Sauerkraut Fish Beauty’ won’t be attracted to me," Jiang Yunhai bet his three buddies.

Song Chuhuan, who had bought himself a cup of coffee, took a leisurely sip. He cast a glance at the sauerkraut fish stall and said, "From what I can tell, our ’Sauerkraut Fish Beauty’ is an ice queen. It’s going to be really hard for an empty-headed, superficial rich playboy like Yun Hai to impress her."

Those words instantly ignited Jiang Yunhai’s competitive spirit.

"Just you wait!" he declared, slapping the table as he stood up and marched toward the sauerkraut fish stall.

Ouyang Feng and Song Chuhuan both eagerly waited for a good show, but Yi Ronghao’s handsome brows furrowed slightly. This buddy of his was obviously always a handful. Always bothering people. He couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty about it. After all, he was the one who had bought the sauerkraut fish in the first place, inadvertently introducing his friends to the girl selling it. Not only did she cook incredible sauerkraut fish, but she was also quite pretty.

He hadn’t expected to bring trouble to her doorstep.
