Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Heading to the Supermarket

"Today, we are going to the supermarket to get supplies," Chen Momo said.

Hearing they were going out to gather supplies, Xu Xiaoka and Chen Xiaobao immediately began preparing in full swing. First, they had to dress warmly: two layers of thermal underwear, two down jackets, and cotton-padded shoes and socks with the openings tied tightly to keep the cold wind out. Secondly, they applied heat patches to their bodies and stuffed hot water bottles into their pockets. Hats, scarves, and gloves were a given. They bundled themselves up tightly from head to toe, leaving only their eyes exposed. Once all three were fully wrapped up, they set off grandly into the heavy snow.

Arriving outside the villa area, they found their RV still parked at the entrance. After several days, only about twenty centimeters of snow had accumulated on the vehicle, indicating that the recent snowfall was much lighter than usual. Chen Momo sat in the driver’s seat and tried to start the RV, only to discover that the engine was frozen solid. It would be a miracle if it hadn’t frozen in such freezing weather.

"Xiao Ka, go back and boil a pot of hot water," Chen Momo said, tossing the keys to Xu Xiaoka.

Xu Xiaoka caught the keys, got out of the vehicle immediately, and headed back to boil water.

"Mommy, Xiao Bao wants to go with her too." After receiving Chen Momo’s permission, Chen Xiaobao ran back to the villa, his little feet going PATTER PATTER as he followed Xu Xiaoka.

Chen Momo watched their retreating figures, thinking that the two of them had built a pretty good relationship.

With Xu Xiaoka and her son gone to boil water, Chen Momo felt bored waiting in the RV. She retrieved some tiger-skin chicken claws from her spatial dimension and played a round of a mobile game while snacking on them.

Suddenly, a woman’s voice drifted into her ears. "There shouldn’t be anyone inside, right?"

Next came a man’s voice. "Who would be in there? Everything’s up for grabs now. Hurry up, stop dawdling."

Chen Momo looked out the window in the direction of the voices and saw a man and a woman running toward her. It seemed these two were aiming for the RV. The man continuously urged the woman to hurry.

Reaching the RV, the man circled it, examining it from all angles. A greedy glint appeared in his eyes. "Tsk, tsk. Such a nice car has fallen into my, Wang Wu’s, hands! Thanks to the snowstorm, I never dreamed I’d be able to drive a luxury car like this in my lifetime!"

After speaking, Wang Wu turned to his wife. "Take the hammer out of the bag. I’m going to smash the window."

It turned out that Wang Wu assumed the RV was empty and planned to break the window, drive it away, and claim it as his own.

Holding the hammer, Wang Wu was just about to smash the glass when Chen Momo suddenly rolled down the window. "What are you doing? There’s someone inside!" she said.

"Someone’s inside?" Wang Wu’s hand, raised with the hammer, froze in mid-air. He hadn’t noticed at all that there was someone sitting in the vehicle.

Wang Wu was startled at first, but taking a look at Chen Momo’s attire, he figured she didn’t look like someone who could afford this RV. He instantly guessed the "truth"—this RV didn’t belong to her; she must have driven it here from somewhere else.

He had his sights set on this RV today! He had walked a long way and this was the only vehicle he had found, and a luxury RV at that. Just imagine: driving a luxury RV through this world of ice and snow, going wherever he pleased, cooking, and watching movies inside. What a comfortable life that would be!

"This car is mine," Chen Momo said coldly.

"Yours? Impossible!" Wang Wu sneered. "Even if it is yours, so what? Law and order have collapsed. Who cares whose it is? In this day and age, if you want something, you just take it. I have a hammer in my hand. If you know what’s good for you, get out of the car right now and give it to me. Otherwise, my hammer won’t show any mercy!"

Wang Wu had made up his mind to snatch this RV. Especially when he saw that Chen Momo was just a frail, weak-looking woman alone in the vehicle, his determination grew even stronger.

Seeing this, Wang Wu’s wife stepped forward to act as an accomplice, threatening Chen Momo. "Girl, my husband and I don’t want to kill anyone. Hurry up and get out, leave the RV to us, and we’ll let you go. Otherwise, out here in the freezing cold, even if someone dies, there’ll be no way to investigate it. I advise you to be smart about this."

Wang Wu and his wife kept trying to intimidate Chen Momo, completely certain that she would be frightened into submission. Wang Wu even harbored a vicious thought—if Chen Momo proved to be truly stubborn, he would just go all the way and take her life!
