Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Killing 2 People in a Row

As he spoke, he burst into loud laughter.

The tattooed man grabbed Xu Xiaoka by the neck in a chokehold. She kicked at him frantically, but he dodged her strikes with surprising agility.

Chen Momo’s heart sank with an ominous premonition. She realized this tattooed man wouldn’t be easy to deal with!

"Tattooed man, let go of Xiao Ka!" Chen Momo shouted as she grabbed a knife and lunged at him.

The tattooed man grabbed her wrist, snatched the knife from her grip, and tossed it to the floor. He stared at Chen Momo with malicious intent. "Zhang Qiang told me the two women living across the hall were pretty good-looking. Tsk, tsk. Looks like he was telling the truth."

With that, his thick arm tightened around Xu Xiaoka’s neck, choking her until she began to cough violently.

Zhang Qiang, the cockroach who had been pepper-sprayed, had finally recovered. He scurried back to his own apartment to grab a pair of sunglasses before scrambling back into Chen Momo’s home. Seeing her home fully equipped with all sorts of heating devices and well-stocked with food, drinks, and entertainment, he couldn’t help but say enviously, "No wonder you hide inside every day without ever coming out. You’ve been vacationing at home! Tsk, tsk. You’ve set up a nice little nest here, but there’s nothing I, Zhang Qiang, love more than destroying things—"

Grabbing a hammer, Zhang Qiang rushed to the window and began smashing it wildly. CRASH! SMASH!

WHOOSH. Freezing wind instantly poured into the room.

Zhang Qiang burst into maniacal laughter. "Now your place is exactly like mine!"

While Zhang Qiang and the tattooed man were laughing wildly, something suddenly shot toward the tattooed man’s face.

SMACK!

The projectile shattered the lens of his glasses and struck him right in the eye.

"Ah!"

The tattooed man screamed in agony, clutching his eye. As his grip loosened, Xu Xiaoka seized the opportunity to break free and darted over to Chen Momo’s side.

In the blink of an eye, while the tattooed man was screaming madly and clutching his injured eye, Xu Xiaoka pulled out her pepper spray and blasted it directly into his face. The tattooed man howled even louder. Keeping one hand clamped over his eye, he furiously grabbed Xu Xiaoka by the collar with the other and snatched the pepper spray away from her.

Chen Momo, meanwhile, instantly rushed forward to retrieve her fallen knife. While the tattooed man was struggling with Xu Xiaoka, she aimed at his exposed neck and plunged the blade in with deadly precision...

The world instantly fell silent.

The tattooed man collapsed headfirst into a pool of his own blood.

As for Zhang Qiang, he cowered in the corner, thoroughly petrified and too terrified to move a single muscle. He had always known that Chen Momo was different from other women. He was inherently afraid of her, which was why he had called Bao Long—a man with underworld ties who had killed before—to back him up.

With Bao Long around, Zhang Qiang had been incredibly arrogant. Now that he had witnessed Bao Long’s death with his own eyes, his bravado vanished entirely. His legs felt as though they had been drained of all strength; he couldn’t run even if he tried. A warm, wet patch began to spread across the front of his pants.

Eyes wide with horror, Zhang Qiang watched Chen Momo slowly approach him, knife in hand.

"L-listen to my explanation! This was all Bao Long’s idea! It has nothing to do with me..." Zhang Qiang trembled so violently that he could barely string his words together.

However, Chen Momo was entirely unmoved. She walked right up to him, raised her sharp knife, aimed at his windpipe, and viciously sliced across it...

The world fell completely silent.

Chen Momo turned around and saw Xu Xiaoka standing behind her, her hands tightly covering Xiao Bao’s eyes.

"Sister Momo, Xiao Bao didn’t see anything," Xu Xiaoka said. She knew that Xiao Bao was Chen Momo’s entire world, so she had made sure to take care of him during the chaos.

Xiao Bao piped up in his sweet, childish voice, "Mommy, Xiao Bao closed his eyes. Xiao Bao didn’t see anything."

In his hands, he still held his self-invented electric slingshot. It turned out that Xiao Bao was the one who had shattered Bao Long’s glasses, giving Chen Momo and Xu Xiaoka the chance to team up and subdue him.

Chen Momo surveyed the freezing room. The window had been smashed to pieces, and she had just killed two men. The apartment was now tainted with the stench of blood. Even if the window were repaired, it was no longer fit for living.

She quickly made a decision—they had to evacuate!

She looked at Chen Xiaobao and Xu Xiaoka. "You two, go pack your bags quickly. We’re leaving tonight."

PITTER-PATTER.

Chen Xiaobao immediately trotted back to his room, grabbed his little suitcase, and began packing.

Xu Xiaoka, on the other hand, looked at Chen Momo with sheer admiration. "Sister Momo, you looked so cool when you killed those two bad guys! If I were a man, I’d fall in love with you!"

This took Chen Momo by surprise. She had expected Xu Xiaoka to be terrified of her. She hadn’t expected this reaction... After all, even she felt that her murderous actions just now were a bit insane in retrospect.

"Hurry up and pack your things," Chen Momo said with a faint smile, urging her on.

"Mhm! I’ll go pack right now," Xu Xiaoka said, quickly hurrying off to gather her belongings.

Chen Momo grabbed a large bedsheet and draped it over the bodies of the tattooed man and Zhang Qiang. Then, she looked around the apartment and stored all the large, useful items—the stove, electric heaters, electric blankets, refrigerator, and so on—into her spatial dimension. She also stored away the depleted solar panels, lightbulbs, and power strips; there was a good chance they would come in handy later.

She took a final lap around the kitchen, stashing anything she could take with her into her space.

Once the rest of the apartment was cleared out, Chen Momo went into her own room, pulled out her suitcase, and began packing her personal belongings. Thick winter clothes, her laptop, bedside books, and other essentials were all neatly organized and placed inside.

By the time everything was packed, she checked the time; it was already past five in the morning.

The family of three was bundled up in thick winter gear. They stood in the living room, each holding their own suitcase, ready to go. Chen Xiaobao held his little suitcase, wearing a thick scarf and a heavy beanie, looking both handsome and tidy in his winter attire.

Chen Momo had taught her son how to take care of himself and be independent from a young age, so Chen Xiaobao had always slept in his own room and knew how to look after himself.

Chen Momo distributed the prepared heating patches and hot water bottles to her son and Xu Xiaoka, keeping some for herself. The three of them armed themselves against the cold, making sure they were nice and warm.

Once fully prepared, they set off together.

The trio first made their way to the twelfth floor and began descending using the rope rigged outside. Xu Xiaoka and Chen Xiaobao went down first, leaving Chen Momo for last. She tossed all the luggage out of the shattered window before slowly rappelling down the rope herself.

The three of them successfully reached the ice surface, which was now elevated to the height of the ninth floor. Outside, heavy snow continued to fall in large, swirling flakes.

Even though it was only five o’clock in the morning, the heavy snow illuminated the outside world, turning it so starkly white that it was as bright as day. However, in the vast, snow-covered landscape, there wasn’t a single shadow in sight, let alone a living person.
