Thirty Days to Hoard: Reborn into the Frost
Chapter 36: Sweeping the Office Building
Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Sweeping the Office Building
Seeing this, Zhang Qiang grumbled from behind, "You’re so damn slow! Can’t you hurry up?"
Zhang Liang frowned. "Zhang Qiang, she’s a woman who has been trekking through the snow with us for so long. Have you no sympathy?" The others also showed visible distaste for Zhang Qiang.
Chen Momo didn’t get angry, however, and simply apologized to him. "Sorry about that. My legs were numb from the cold, but I’m good now." Since she no longer had to trudge through the snow, the thermal underwear was finally trapping her body heat, and her legs felt much better. She grabbed the windowsill, ready to hop in.
Zhang Liang, who was already inside, grabbed her hand and gave her a firm pull. Chen Momo slipped through the office window smoothly. At the exact moment she passed through, she deliberately kicked her back leg out, planting her boot squarely into Zhang Qiang. Caught completely off guard, the rotund Zhang Qiang toppled backward into the snow, rolling several times like a bowling ball.
No one standing nearby felt a shred of pity for him; instead, they burst into roaring laughter. Zhang Liang and Chen Bing couldn’t help but chuckle as well, thinking it was a fantastic kick.
Struggling to his feet, Zhang Qiang glared at Chen Momo and bellowed, "Why did you kick me?!"
Chen Momo feigned pure innocence. "Huh? Did I kick you? I’m so sorry, but it was just so hard climbing through that window. I must have hit you by accident."
Zhang Qiang cursed under his breath as he brushed the snow off his clothes. He was certain she had done it on purpose, but he couldn’t prove it and had no choice but to swallow his anger.
"It’s my turn now," Zhang Qiang muttered, moving to climb through the window.
However, Chen Ping and Zhang Liang deliberately blocked him from cutting the line, reaching out to pull the others in first instead. The rest of the group, having long despised Zhang Qiang’s habit of constantly cutting in line, quickly caught on to the brilliance of Chen Momo’s donkey kick. As they clambered through the window one by one, they each lifted a back leg for a highly "accidental" kick, landing their boots right on Zhang Qiang. Unsurprisingly, he was kicked back down and spent quite a while floundering in the snow before managing to stand up.
He was kicked several times during the process. Every time he tried to blow up in a rage, the person who kicked him would hastily apologize first. "Sorry about that, Zhang Qiang! I really didn’t mean to. My legs are just too numb!" Still grumbling, Zhang Qiang was forced to bite his tongue.
Finally, he was the last one left. Everyone had successfully hopped into the tenth-floor office.
The company’s layout was extremely simple: six desks equipped with six desktop computers. Half-finished drinks, unopened packs of biscuits, and throw pillows were scattered across the workstations. A water dispenser stood in the corner of the office, though the water inside had long since frozen solid.
Wang Jian Country spoke up, "Everyone, see what you need and grab it quickly! Once we’re done here, we’ll hit the other offices."
Chen Momo followed the crowd, keeping an eye out for things she wanted. Six desktop computers—she discreetly stored them all into her spatial dimension. She only had one laptop and an iPad at home. If she hoarded a few extra computers, she could rent them out after the apocalypse blew over and make a fortune off the rental fees alone!
She initially wanted to take the desks as well, but taking all six would be far too conspicuous with so many people around. Instead, she quietly slipped two of them into her space. As for the biscuits, spicy gluten strips, and pillows, she stuffed them into a physical bag she carried. Before setting out, she had shoved a few clear plastic bags into her pockets. Now, she pulled them out to put on a show of gathering supplies.
A few people were so enticed by the sight of food that they stopped dead in their tracks, ripping open the snacks on the desks and eating them right then and there. For a moment, the quiet office was filled with the sound of crunching biscuits and the pungent, spicy aroma of gluten strips.
Seeing that there wasn’t much left in this office, Zhang Liang said, "You guys take your time looking around here. I’m going to check somewhere else." With that, he hoisted his sledgehammer and headed for another room.
Chen Momo seized the opportunity. "I’m going to check the other offices too." She slipped out on her own, eager to operate solo. With too many eyes around, using her spatial dimension was far too inconvenient.
Wang Jian Country reminded them, "We’ll regroup right here in two hours, so keep an eye on the time. If you’re late, the main group won’t wait for you."
Zhang Liang flashed an "OK" gesture, and Chen Momo nodded in understanding.
Upon leaving the office, Zhang Liang went left, and Chen Momo went right. The offices in this building all had transparent glass doors equipped with fingerprint scanners and anti-theft systems—all utterly useless now. Chen Momo pulled a heavy sledgehammer from her space, swung it back, and smashed it directly into the glass door.
CRASH!
A massive hole was shattered into the glass. With her petite frame, slipping through the opening was effortless. She ducked down and stepped inside.
This office was a delightful surprise. Several large cabinets lined the walls, each stacked with different items. They were all from the same brand, called "Macaque." There were spicy gluten strips, beef jerky, dried squid shreds, and more. It turned out this was a company that produced short videos for food products; a complete set of live-streaming equipment was even set up on a desk near the entrance.
Chen Momo immediately swept the entire broadcasting setup into her space. Next, she cleared out all the snacks from the cabinets, storing them away as well. There was also a printer in the room. Recognizing it as a high-end brand that usually retailed for over ten thousand yuan, she took that too.
Once she finished sweeping the place clean, she moved on to the next office. Chen Momo swung her hammer and smashed open the adjacent door.
This one was a massive jackpot—it was a wine distribution company! Several high-end display cases lined the room, each with five shelves, and every shelf was fully stocked with various types of red wine. In total, there were around five hundred bottles scattered throughout the office. Going on a frantic looting spree, Chen Momo tossed all the wine—shelves included—straight into her space.
In an instant, the entire room was stripped bare.
Just as she was about to leave, she turned her head and jumped in fright. A dark figure was standing silently right behind her. After steadying her nerves, she recognized that wretched, rotund face. It was Zhang Qiang!
He was staring at her, a malicious smirk plastered across his face.
Chen Momo’s guard instantly shot up. She wondered when he had arrived, if he had seen her collecting supplies, and if he knew about her spatial dimension. If Zhang Qiang had seen her using her space, then there could only be one outcome for him.
At that thought, Chen Momo tightened her grip on her sledgehammer...
