The Wild Doctor and the Fair Beauty
Chapter 566 - 566: Unprecedented and Unsurpassed
"General Zhong!"
Nightingale saw the caller ID and immediately answered the phone.
"Nightingale, has Xinghai arrived in Shanghai?"
The caller was none other than Zhong Yunman, the Three-star General guarding the border near the snowy mountains of the Western Territory.
"Yes, he has. We're together right now," Nightingale answered truthfully.
"In that case..." Zhong Yunman's tone softened slightly.
Nightingale's face flushed red as she whispered, "I... was favored by him."
"Do you blame me?" General Zhong asked, a hint of guilt in her voice.
"I don't. I was more than willing." Nightingale was deeply drawn to the aura around Jiang Xinghai. Aside from her being a bit forward, everything had happened naturally. The feeling was truly wonderful.
Zhong Yunman smiled thoughtfully and said, "Alright, let's talk more when we meet."
"General Zhong, you're coming to Shanghai?" Nightingale's face lit up with pleasant surprise.
"From now on, let's call each other sisters."
Zhong Yunman continued with a laugh, "I'll be in Shanghai tomorrow at the earliest, the day after at the latest. And I'll be bringing good news. I just don't know if my little junior brother will see it as a pleasant surprise or a nasty shock."
"Sister Man, what is this good news?" Nightingale couldn't help but ask, her curiosity piqued.
"It's top secret, so I can't say for now." Zhong Yunman shook her head. "You just need to help me take good care of Xinghai before I get to Shanghai."
"I understand."
Nightingale understood how to "take care of" Jiang Xinghai. She then asked, "Sister Man, he's eager to pay a visit to the three great families right now. I'm still trying to talk him out of it. Do you want to talk to him?"
"If he wants to pay them a visit, then let him. Is there anywhere in this world my junior brother can't go?" Zhong Yunman's voice carried a trace of authority and confidence. "Tell him not to worry about making a scene. As long as it concerns news about his parents, he can steamroll them all without issue. I'll take care of any consequences."
"Okay!" Nightingale replied cheerfully.
After they finished talking, the call ended.
Nightingale grabbed a few bottles of liquor, picked up the box of seasonings, and quickly leaped off the yacht.
By the beach, a bonfire was already burning.
Jiang Xinghai and Sun Zhen were eating fresh wild fruit.
"Young Master Jiang, good news!"
Nightingale hurried over. "Sister Man is coming to Shanghai in a day or two."
"Is that right!" Jiang Xinghai grinned.
The news that his second senior sister, Zhong Yunman, was coming to Shanghai was indeed good news!
The last time they met was at their master Yao Gu's birthday banquet on Kunlun Mountain.
Back then, the four of them—he and his three senior sisters—had gathered with their master. Since then, he had only seen his third senior sister, Zhao Linglong. He hadn't reunited with any of the others.
Counting the time, it had been ten months!
"What else did my senior sister say?" Jiang Xinghai asked as he roasted a fish on a stick, Zhong Yunman's face and voice appearing in his mind.
"She said you can go ahead and do whatever you want in Shanghai, and she'll take care of any consequences," Nightingale replied with a grin.
"Hahaha..."
Jiang Xinghai roared with laughter. That sounded just like his senior sister.
Back then, when the four of them celebrated their master's birthday, all three of his senior sisters had said similar things.
Jiang Xinghai had even been moved to tears by it.
"I should learn how to roast fish, too." Nightingale mimicked Jiang Xinghai and Sun Zhen's technique, skewering a fish's belly with a stick and then sprinkling on some seasoning...
"Old Sun, open the liquor. Let's get started."
Jiang Xinghai called out, looking forward to his reunion with his second senior sister.
Without a word, Sun Zhen opened three bottles of foreign liquor.
"Roast fish and foreign liquor... doesn't seem like a great pairing, does it?"
Jiang Xinghai saw they were all foreign brands, so he decided not to fuss over it, grabbing a bottle and taking a long drink.
「Meanwhile.」
About seventy-odd nautical miles from Qiongjiao Island, where Jiang Xinghai and the other two were, lay a lush, verdant island—Cui Mountain Island, which belonged to the Cao Family of Shanghai.
In the center of the island stood a garden villa.
It would not be an exaggeration to call the entire island the "Cao Family Manor."
Among a cluster of jagged, unusually shaped rocks, Cao Shan and Zheng Wuji had met and were speaking in hushed tones.
"Father-in-law, that was the message Tang General relayed to me."
Zheng Wuji, a General from the Eastern Territory, had just recounted the notice from Tang Zhen to his father-in-law, Cao Shan.
"For a commoner to be promoted unconventionally to Three-star... that's probably unprecedented."
Cao Shan stroked his beard, his face a mask of shock. "I wonder what sort of meritorious service this commoner performed for the higher-ups to give him such a great reward. It's truly..."
He drew a sharp breath, his brows furrowed with worry.
Shortly after he arrived on Cui Mountain Island, his son-in-law, Zheng Wuji, had shown up.
He had been about to mention Nightingale and Jiang Xinghai from the Western Territory's War Department, hoping Zheng Wuji would mobilize the War Department's forces to find the two and hand them over to him.
But Zheng Wuji had immediately hit him with this stunning news instead.
"In two days, at Marshal Feng's promotion ceremony, our Cao Family will be able to attend. We'll find out who this mysterious new Three-star is then." Cao Shan sighed, then added, "Now, let's talk about Jiang Xinghai and Nightingale from the Western Territory."
