Chapter 1735: Chapter 709: Night Whispers
The person coming in was making very little noise; if Zhou Wang hadn’t already been awake, he probably wouldn’t even have heard that deliberately slowed-down sound of the door opening.
Zhou Wang didn’t know where the impulse came from; he quickly put down his phone, then tilted his head and pretended to be already asleep.
There’s a short little hallway between the door and the bedroom. Along with the deliberately muffled sound of slippers scraping the floor, from Zhou Wang’s back-turned angle he could see a stretched-out shadow cast through the streetlamp outside the window, reflected on the floor.
As she slowly approached the bed, that originally distorted shadow gradually returned to its true shape with each step.
Zhou Wang glanced over and immediately understood that the person sneaking into his room in the dead of night was Sister Xiao Yu.
For one reason only... those two unusually full, curved lines were way too obvious; still in puberty, Linlin definitely couldn’t have that kind of scale.
Huh, wait, how come he could see everything so clearly just from a shadow?
Just as Zhou Wang was wondering about that, he saw the shadow pause, stopping at the foot of the bed, and then Sister Xiao Yu’s slightly trembling voice rose softly:
"Boss... Zhou, Zhou Wang, are you asleep?"
Her voice was tiny; even in this quiet bedroom, if Zhou Wang’s hearing weren’t fairly good, he felt he wouldn’t have heard her at all.
Maybe she realized that too, because she bent down again, her hand shaking as she reached into the covers and poked Zhou Wang a few times.
Since he’d chosen to fake sleep from the start, naturally Zhou Wang wasn’t going to "wake up" now. He mainly wanted to see what exactly Sister Xiao Yu was trying to do... after all, he thought the two of them had already reached some sort of understanding back in the bathroom.
And now, maybe because she saw that Zhou Wang really seemed "asleep," she wasn’t as nervous. She hesitated for a moment, then sat down right at the edge of the bed.
Taking advantage of the moment, Zhou Wang squinted his eyes just a little, and in that brief glimpse he saw a flash of pure white.
The first thought that popped into his head was... isn’t Sister Xiao Yu cold?
Qin Island’s winter isn’t that harsh, but still, this is a seaside city at night. In an old building like this, the conditions are limited—there’s only a random-brand AC, no floor heating. Zhou Wang was fine wrapped up in the quilt, but for Sister Xiao Yu to sit there completely bare like that, wouldn’t she freeze herself into some kind of problem?
Wait, why isn’t she wearing anything?
Only now did Zhou Wang realize he’d completely grabbed the wrong end of the stick.
No wonder you could clearly make out every curve just from the shadow on the floor.
"I’m sorry, Zhou Wang, I... I really am a little cold. Can Sister Xiao Yu come in and talk to you?"
Sister Xiao Yu’s voice, slightly shaking, sounded like she really couldn’t take it anymore. She asked softly, and when she saw Zhou Wang still didn’t react, she lifted the quilt from the foot of the bed and slipped inside.
As Sister Xiao Yu’s icy-cold body pressed up against him, warmth climbing, Zhou Wang shivered and almost couldn’t help giving himself away.
And once Sister Xiao Yu had, as she wished, burrowed into Zhou Wang’s covers, maybe seeing that even this hadn’t woken him, her courage grew. She inched closer along his side, letting most of her body rest flush against his, though clearly holding back her strength, probably afraid of startling him awake.
Then Sister Xiao Yu went quiet.
Just as Zhou Wang was puzzling over whether she’d really come just to hold him, she buried her head and her slightly muffled voice sounded again, very softly.
"Actually... actually when I cried in the bathroom, it wasn’t because I was sad, and it wasn’t because I felt wronged. I just kept thinking, how could I go looking for you before I even managed to coax Linlin properly? I... I can’t even handle this tiny thing, I’m too stupid, and I keep causing you trouble..."
Zhou Wang was slightly taken aback as he listened.
He didn’t speak to interrupt her, just lay there quietly and listened.
To be honest, ever since they’d grown up and reunited, he’d never really had a proper heart-to-heart with Sister Xiao Yu. Not because he didn’t want to, but because the gap years had carved between them left the two of them practically like strangers.
If Sister Xiao Yu hadn’t suddenly fallen ill, there probably wouldn’t have been any more real overlap in their lives. And even now, because of the difference in their stations, plus her introverted nature, even when Zhou Wang took the initiative to chat with her, she had no idea how to respond.
For her to be able to say this much in one go, it was probably only because Zhou Wang was "asleep." That being the case, it made it even harder for him to suddenly wake up.
"Just now I only came to you after I coaxed Linlin to sleep. I... Sister Xiao Yu also went to the bathroom first to wash myself clean..."
Maybe having gotten past that first wave of awkwardness, Sister Xiao Yu’s hands and feet were starting to get restless as she spoke. Zhou Wang could feel her palm sliding up from his waist, searching its way to his chest, and she was pressing closer and closer into him.
Right then Zhou Wang suddenly felt a bit annoyed with himself. Normally he slept naked, but lately, in this new place, he’d gotten into the habit of wearing pajamas.
At this moment he found the pajamas a real nuisance—they let him feel something, but nothing truly clear.
Even so, Zhou Wang could still feel Sister Xiao Yu gradually getting warmer, giving him the comfy sensation of a giant human-shaped plush pillow... no, that wasn’t right; given the situation, he was more like her body pillow.
"Zhou Wang, Sister Xiao Yu really does want to repay you. You’ve done so many things for me and Linlin, but I don’t know how to do anything, and I don’t have anything at all..."
