The Villainess Is My Cute Daughter
Chapter 390: Angels and Demons II
Adrian frowned.
"Wait. I’m a little confused now," Adrian admitted. "I heard from Wang Lei that humans were actually direct descendants of the High Elves. According to what that elf told him, the original High Elves basically split themselves, and a portion became cursed monsters while the other portion became humans. We just don’t have the raw magical power or the potency that the Elves naturally have."
The Dragon nodded at him.
"Well, that is just a convenient story that Wang Lei heard from someone else," she replied. "Just because he heard a historical fairy tale from a powerful elf doesn’t magically make it the truth. And it also doesn’t mean that the person who told it to him even knew the real truth themselves."
Adrian just stared at her.
"Then what actually happened back then?" Adrian asked.
He leaned forward in his chair, completely ignoring his tea, entirely invested in the answer.
The Dragon took another delicate sip of her tea before answering.
"Humans existed on this planet far before the High Elves ever descended," she explained. "They were already here, but they just weren’t at the top of the food chain. The ancient Dwarves were extremely good at smithing and creating various mechanical tools, even though they inherently lacked the capability to wield magic. The other beast races were physically much more powerful and hyper-specialized for combat. It was a brutal, lawless world back then, and the weak humans were entirely ignored when the apocalyptic wars between the higher races began."
She set her teacup down gently.
"The reality of what happened is this: yes, the surviving High Elves intentionally split themselves into two completely different parts. One twisted portion became the degraded monsters you currently call ’Elves’, and the other portion merged with humans. You see, ancient humans never actually had the ability to wield mana, and they never would have been able to evolve it on their own."
Adrian’s eyes widened as the pieces fell into place.
"But the new humanoid vessels that the High Elves created interbred with the ancient humans," she continued smoothly. "And this magical passage of blood... this specific, diluted bloodline... has successfully carried on to the present day. Whoever has a slightly higher concentration of High Elf blood in their veins gets the ability to naturally wield mana."
She gestured vaguely at the surroundings.
"Of course, millions of common people do have a very minute concentration of this ancient blood. It allows them to hold a tiny bit of mana inside their bodies, but it is not nearly enough for them to actually form a circle and become Mages. The stronger your natural talent as a Mage is... or should I say, the higher the rank of your Mana Veins is, the closer you are to the original High Elves."
Adrian just stared at her, lost in his own deep thoughts.
The Dragon didn’t interrupt his thoughts. She just sat back and calmly sipped her tea.
After almost ten whole minutes of silence, Adrian finally opened his mouth.
"Why did the High Elves even intentionally split themselves apart?" Adrian asked. "If what you just said is true, then there is a strong possibility that the real reason the High Elves split apart wasn’t actually due to some demonic curse."
The Dragon shook her head.
"No. The High Elves weren’t exactly cursed by anyone," she confirmed. "That is just a tragic, romanticized story that was intentionally spread later on. The harsh reality of what happened back then was that the High Elves, after violently fighting the Demons to a standstill, finally realized the horrible truth. They had always proudly thought that they were the noble, native defenders of this planet... entirely unaware that they were nothing but mere pawns created by the Angels to secure the world for them."
Her golden eyes narrowed slightly.
"Out of sheer spite, and out of immense pride for their dying race, they made one incredibly drastic, suicidal move," she explained. "Since the Demons had successfully stolen their World Tree, the High Elves couldn’t exactly reproduce anymore. Their numbers could not naturally increase. So, they went into hiding. They used their incredibly long lifespans to pour their hearts and souls into research, delving deep into the forbidden magic of bloodlines."
She smiled softly at the memory of their defiance.
"They performed multiple horrifying experiments on themselves and also on others... and then they permanently split their biological structure into two completely different parts. It wasn’t just some blind, religious faith ritual done using a set of divine instructions. Or those dark magic rituals that are more common in the countries dominated by demonic religions. It wasn’t a ritual connected to angels or demons. Not at all. It was far more sinister, and also incredibly beautiful at the exact same time."
She traced the rim of her teacup with a long fingernail.
"Two completely different bodies merging together. A High Elf and an ancient human.... and they came out as two entirely different bodies again. One was a twisted, cursed beast you now call an Elf. And the other was a human that was now perfectly capable of wielding magic."
She looked back up at him.
"But of course, there was a fundamental difference in how magic was naturally wielded between the two parent races, and I will let you find out those specific differences yourself. But let’s just say that the High Elves successfully gave birth to a hybrid race that has the raw evolutionary potential to eventually surpass both the Angels and the Demons."
Adrian leaned back in his chair, completely stunned by the massive lore drop. None of this stuff was mentioned in the novel he read.
"And that is also exactly why the concept of the ’Blessing and Curse’ system exists amongst your people today," the Dragon continued. "Ever since the beginning of time, even before I was born, every single sentient being was naturally born with a curse and a blessing. It did not have the specific religious name of ’Divine’ or ’Demonic’ back then. In fact, it wasn’t even called a blessing or a curse at all. Ancient people just called it ’Karmic Fate’."
