The Versatile Master Artist

Chapter 630 - 289: Cat Nanny

In the quiet art studio.

It was probably the sixth sense working invisibly.

Bu Dao stopped before getting too close to trigger the tabby cat’s instinctive aggression.

Ah Wang still had his paws resting on the edge of the can, ready to pounce at any moment.

Before that.

She stared unblinkingly at Bu Dao, seemingly trying to figure out what this guy was up to.

"Meow?"

This meow was actually made by Bu Dao.

The plump child slowly knelt on one knee, leaning forward.

He opened his mouth and mimicked Ah Wang’s meowing, like singing a nursery rhyme made up of strange syllables.

"Ken, meow meow, ding, ding ding, ken ken, meow...?"

Bu Dao cautiously pointed a finger towards Ah Wang.

Outside, Gu Weijing watched this perplexing scene through the camera.

It took him a full half-minute to understand what Bu Dao was trying to convey.

"Ken" should be the homophonic representation of "Can" under Bu Dao’s peculiar method of vibrating his vocal cords.

Meow meow was mimicking Ah Wang, ding ding was simulating the sound of the can hitting marble skirting.

Putting it together.

The chubby Bu Dao seemed to be trying to help Ah Wang open the can.

Thankfully, Gu Weijing often chatted with little Bu Dao in strange, gibberish for quite a while in the past, so he was familiar.

That’s why he could mostly guess Bu Dao’s deeper meaning.

What is meow meow?

Gu Weijing sighed helplessly.

Such riddle-like, nonsensical nursery rhymes take adults quite a while to decipher, let alone cats with childlike intelligence.

Bu Dao’s meowing confused Ah Wang.

Perhaps the tabby cat felt similar to volunteers at the orphanage hearing strange bird calls from Bu Dao for the first time.

He seemed to be speaking cat language or just inexplicably shouting.

"Meow—meow?" Ah Wang tried to communicate with this peculiar human.

"Meow." Bu Dao continued meowing.

"Meow meow?"

"Meow."

The small studio filled with meowing sounds.

If you didn’t see the scene, just listening to the studio door, you might mistake it for a cat concert inside.

Gu Weijing was surprised by this unexpected turn of events.

Bu Dao’s meowing was amusing, and it inadvertently reduced Ah Wang’s aggression.

The tabby cat’s back was no longer tensed like a drawn bowstring.

The cat’s muscles relaxed, its tail wagged, passionately engaging with Bu Dao in meow exchanges.

Bu Dao quietly crawled forward a few steps, his finger pointing to the can under Ah Wang’s front paws, and meowed softly.

This time, Ah Wang hesitated.

Not knowing whether Bu Dao’s meaningless meowing somehow resonated or if Ah Wang smartly understood his gestures.

She shifted her upper body and let the protected food come out.

But one front paw was still reluctantly resting on her treasured can.

Bu Dao looked at Ah Wang, and Ah Wang, with her tawny eyes, looked at the chubby child.

Man and cat faced each other.

For a long time.

Perhaps Ah Wang ultimately trusted that a meowing human oddball was odd but likely not a bad person like Old Wu.

She gave the can a paw swipe, making it roll towards Bu Dao.

Bu Dao took the can, and Ah Wang walked a few steps forward, lying beside the chubby child’s legs.

"Awesome."

Outside, Gu Weijing silently cheered.

He understood Ah Wang came closer more to supervise; if this little guy snatched her can, she would immediately pounce and bite.

But the two models not resisting each other’s touch was a promising start.

Gu Weijing took the Apple Pencil off the tablet and hesitated whether to sketch this scene.

For a moment.

Gu Weijing felt he hadn’t grasped their interaction’s essence and spirit yet.

Instinct suggested he should patiently observe a while longer.

There’s a reason for the preciousness.

The cat food cans purchased by Koizumi Katsuko are easy to open and don’t require a special can opener.

But Bu Dao is young and weak, struggling with the pull tab.

He struggled for a long time, trying to wedge his little chubby carrot-like fingers into the can pull tab to no avail.

Bu Dao didn’t mind the cat’s saliva on it and, like Ah Wang, hugged the can and began gnawing.

The chubby child laboriously pried his lower teeth into the can’s pull tab, gripped it, and tugged hard.

Ah Wang occasionally meowed nearby to cheer him on.

After much strenuous effort.

Bu Dao finally pried open the can and spat the aluminum lid to one side.

"Eat?"

Bu Dao placed the cat food can on the floor before him, tentatively asking. "Eat" and "cat" are among the few words he could pronounce well.

Faced with delicious food, Ah Wang never knew what "being polite" meant.

She glanced at Bu Dao as if to acknowledge his help, then sprawled in front of the can and began eating enthusiastically.

Bu Dao slowly extended his hand, cautiously resting his palm on the cat’s plump back.
