Chapter 2349: Just Brushed Past Nicholas Fuller

In the large tiered lecture hall of the Level-5 laboratory.

Nathan Garland was standing at the lectern, face solemn, explaining knowledge related to physics experiments to the people in the classroom.

He had just finished explaining one point.

The people below were all taking notes.

Nathan Garland then wrote the upcoming project schedule for the laboratory on the blackboard with quick strokes of chalk, then neatly tossed the chalk stub onto the desk, picked up the thermos cup sitting there, twisted open the lid, and said unhurriedly, "This is the laboratory’s plan for the next six months. Look for yourselves to see which project you’ve been assigned to."

The large tiered classroom erupted into a buzz of discussion.

"I’ve been assigned to the quantum control and measurement project."

"Damn, you’re really lucky. That’s the biggest research project in our Level-5 laboratory for the second half of the year. I heard it’s the supervisor’s newest research direction—if you do well, when the results get published, you might even get your name on it."

"Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too."

Last row of the lecture hall.

A woman of about thirty-something sat there watching coldly as Nathan Garland wrote out the experimental schedule on the board, and, just as she expected, saw her own name once again assigned to some obscure project.

Expressionless, she lowered her lids, reached up and pushed the black-framed glasses on her nose, hiding the depression in her eyes.

The friend beside her nudged her covertly with an elbow and lowered her voice: "Madeleine, how come you’ve been put in a marginal laboratory again? The people below are going too far, aren’t they? Do you want to go talk to the supervisor? You’re obviously very capable, what right do they have to stick you in some dead-end project every time? It’s too much!"

The woman who’d been jabbed with the elbow heard her friend bring up Nathan Garland, and her expression grew even colder; she even started packing up her laptop: "Don’t go to those people, it’s useless."

Her friend looked utterly puzzled, grabbing the woman’s hand as she packed: "It’s no use even if I go to the supervisor? Today’s such a good opportunity, the supervisor’s right here. If we talk to him, he’ll definitely stick up for you."

Yanked to a halt, Madeleine couldn’t keep packing her things.

Facing her friend’s earnest gaze, she was like a ball that had been compressed to the extreme, as if it might explode in the next second. She flung off her friend’s hand, her tone anxious and irritable: "You don’t get it—going to him is what’s most useless!"

"Madeleine." Her friend’s hand dropped after being shaken off, and she stared at her in disbelief, looking somewhat hurt.

The woman was stung by that hurt in her eyes, and quickly avoided her Line of sight, dropping her head, her face shut down: "Sorry. My mood’s bad."

"N-no, it’s fine."

Madeleine apologized in a rush, then gathered up her things and quickly left the large tiered classroom.

Nathan Garland also noticed a figure leaving through the back door of the lecture hall; he only carelessly withdrew his gaze, as if he hadn’t registered that person at all.

As She walked out of the classroom, she happened to run into Nicholas Fuller striding around the corner.

She silently stepped aside to let him pass and greeted him in a low voice: "Dean."

Nicholas Fuller saw someone there and grunted an "Mm." With things still weighing on his Heart, he only gave her a gentle nod, then headed straight toward the large tiered classroom.

The woman watched his quickly retreating back in a daze for a couple of seconds, not knowing what was going through her Heart. She clenched the hand at her side into a fist and, for an instant, seemed to have mustered up her courage.

But her Eyes quickly dimmed again. She pressed her lips together, silently turned around, and walked off in the opposite direction...
