the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1572 - 1554: True Masters Remain Hidden
Chester Walker’s eyes almost fell to the ground as he watched Marcus Quinn, the 1.9-meter tall man who had trained them hard in the past, silently peeling prawns for his wife and doing laundry and cooking. He suddenly felt as if his whole being wasn’t well.
Evildoers meet their match, he thought. Back then, they suffered under Marcus Quinn’s command, and now seeing Marcus so obediently managed by little sister-in-law Ada, Walker felt both gratified and saddened.
Thinking of those passionate and spirited years while eating the dishes prepared by Marcus, Walker suddenly got teary-eyed.
Ada was somewhat puzzled, secretly poking Marcus. Out of the blue, why was he crying?
The man glanced warningly at Walker and then said in a low voice, "Maybe he’s just hungry."
Ada pursed her lips, smiled, and nodded. She too had been starving a month ago, and almost cried upon eating that bowl of porridge Marcus had left for her.
"Sis, I’m just excited. I don’t mind you laughing at me. Seeing Marcus settled, I’m truly happy for him." Walker exclaimed, patting his thigh in excitement. "This trip really relieved a concern for me. Marcus is such a top-notch man; if I were a woman, I would want to marry him."
Ada burst out laughing. She had wanted to say she and Marcus weren’t married yet, but living together was undeniable, and she had promised to marry him. So listening to Walker repeatedly call her sister-in-law made her cheeks blush.
She knew Marcus’s virtues. Previously, she stayed for recompense and because of circumstances, but now she increasingly saw his steady and reliable nature. Even if he wasn’t a flashy noble, lacked high education or illustrious family background, he provided a rare sense of security.
"Eat well." Marcus noticed Ada’s shy little face nearly buried in the bowl, and glared at Walker.
"Alright, Marcus." Walker cheerfully continued peeling the prawns.
The trio ate joyfully. Ada’s large jug of honey grapefruit tea was emptied. Walker initially complained it was too sweet, but then drank cup after cup. Ada watched him eagerly, thinking to herself there were more in the fridge at home, so she reluctantly released the lid of the jug, her large dark eyes pitifully looking at Marcus.
Marcus couldn’t help but slightly curl his lips and planned to make a fruit drink with wild honey for Ada back home. As for this jug, he’d let the Walker rascal have it.
Three pounds of lobster, Walker ate at least two pounds, polished off three dishes, and only then, with a satisfied burp, remembered he forgot to take a photo and felt immediate regret. He should’ve taken a picture to show off back at the Military District.
After the meal, Gabriel, who had been waiting outside for a long time, finally knocked on the door, laughing jovially. "Mr. Quinn, since you’re here today, we have freshly prepared pig trotters and all necessary ingredients. Would you like to braise the trotters here so you won’t have to make another trip tomorrow?"
Gabriel had fought off the chefs in the kitchen just to eat Marcus’s cooked food, barely protecting one pound of lobster, then brought it like a treasure to the private room. When Fountain City’s regulars arrived and tasted his dish, their expressions turned like they hadn’t eaten in ages, devouring the food shamelessly and chaos ensued, loosing all previous poise.
"Marcus, do you work at this restaurant?" Before Marcus could respond, Walker asked in surprise.
"I just sell thirty pounds of pig trotters daily to the restaurant. Grab some for yourself when you head back tomorrow." Marcus replied nonchalantly.
"Alright, alright!" Walker was instantly delighted, a pig trotter was like a mom to him.
"It’s a bit late tonight." Marcus gently refused.
"I’ll arrange a car to send you back, then." Gabriel seemed a bit regretful and could tell the man before him was no ordinary person. His gaze shifted; even Ada, though dressed plainly, had a cultivated grace that wasn’t typical, more dazzling and captivating than Fountain City’s wealthy Misses.
Even the man in floral shorts had a sharp posture, exuding an imposing aura that turned gentle as a lamb upon seeing Marcus.
After observing, Gabriel realized none of the trio were ordinary.
Marcus didn’t refuse, and ultimately Gabriel drove them back to the residential area himself.
Marcus carried thirty pounds of pig trotters back with Ada, while Walker went to retrieve the car to return to the Military District guesthouse.
Gabriel was about to ask Marcus’s friend if he needed a ride, only to see him drive off in a Military District off-road vehicle with a heart-stirringly bright license plate.
Gabriel jumped, increasingly believing Mr. Quinn wasn’t just anyone, immediately calling the manager to instruct him to daily collect trotter directly from the residential area, saving Marcus the trip to the restaurant.
At home, Marcus handed the documents to Ada, softly saying, "These are your identification documents, newly issued. I didn’t know your registered address, so I used my grandfather’s ancestral home."
Ada was momentarily stunned by his words, taking the folder from his hands. Seeing the ID card, health insurance card, driver’s license, and other documents containing her own information but a different registered address, she couldn’t believe it and stared at Marcus.
The man’s expression was slightly cold, his eyebrow scar breaking the handsome features and revealing some matured temperament. Under her gaze, he felt slightly warm, blurting out, "You will need documents for marriage."
Ada was momentarily dazed, unable to refute.
"But I never reported anything lost, how were these done?"
The man lightly coughed, skirting the issue, saying, "Chester has connections, it’s just document processing, not difficult. We don’t have a property in Fountain City, otherwise, the registry could be here."
Ada, a pampered Miss severely lacking common knowledge, believed his brief explanation, joyfully holding the documents, grinning foolishly.
Being undocumented was always a worry for her, and now having credentials, she could start anew.
Marcus saw her without a trace of suspicion, even not questioning Chester’s identity, his gaze deepened. Such a naive girl, no wonder she was previously lured and imprisoned. Her affluent life previously must have pampered her into such a pure personality, and from now on, he must take better care of her.
Marcus went to the kitchen for Ada and brewed a pot of honey grapefruit tea, then started preparing pig trotters.
"Marcus, how did you know I wanted to drink grapefruit tea?" Ada hugged her documents, sitting at the dining table and looking at Marcus, her eyes curving into a smile.
"Chester will return tomorrow, and no one will be around to compete for drinks with you," the man smiled, his lips curled.
Ada’s small face warmed, softly replying, "I didn’t intend to compete with him, Marcus, tomorrow I’ll buy grapefruit and key limes for you to make a batch for your friend too."
"Hmm." Marcus nodded.
"By the way, I found a job today, teaching a seven-year-old girl piano, just two classes a week." Ada grinned as she shared.
The tall man’s body paused slightly, his brows furrowed; piano tutoring? If you can learn piano, the family must be affluent. But thinking of Ada going for tutoring with her looks, Marcus’s brows furrowed tightly.
"When are the class times? Where are the lessons held? I’ll pick you up then." Marcus spoke deeply, not only planning to escort her but also investigate that family’s details.
