Chapter 1623: Chapter 1636: Threats

Luckily, this situation didn’t last long. About three to five seconds later, a thunderous boom exploded, and the thick wall finally couldn’t bear the strain and was blasted open into a jagged big hole. The night wind poured in, blowing away the dust in the room. Lin Mu snapped out of it and hurriedly ran forward, but before he could even open his mouth, Lin Mu sprang forward in one leap and jumped out.

"You stay and clean up the mess, I’ll go after him..."

"Huh, that guy isn’t dead yet?" Cheng Xu’s face changed, then he suddenly remembered this was the fourth floor, at least ten meters high—just jumping straight down like that... However, Cheng Xu’s worry was obviously unnecessary. When he stuck his head out and looked down, Lin Mu had already landed steadily in front of a Volkswagen. He shoved aside two dumbstruck young guys, tapped the ground with his toes, and his figure flickered forward, sprinting away.

The night was vast and hazy. One in front, one behind, without realizing it, they actually ran into Wancheng Park. This was a newly built municipal project in Wancheng, still under construction and not yet open to the public, so in this huge park there wasn’t any other trace of people.

"Run, why aren’t you running now? Damn it, you can run from the monk but not from the temple!" Lin Mu stood behind him, hands on his hips, letting out a cold laugh.

Glancing at the rushing surface of the Binhe River, the man in black took a deep breath and turned around. His face was slightly pale, and there was still a trace of blood at the corner of his mouth. Clearly, Lin Mu’s flurry of punches had done him quite a bit of damage.

"Leave a line when you’re dealing with people, so you can meet again someday. Don’t push a man too far..."

"Fuck, even begging for mercy you manage to make it sound so ’creative’? A disciple taught by Huizhi really does come in all kinds of freak flavors!"

The man in black froze for a moment and blurted out instinctively, "You know my master?"

"So you’re Little Monk’s disciple." Lin Mu narrowed his eyes. "That means I really can’t let you go."

"Damn, didn’t expect to run into Master’s enemy. Wait, this guy is so young, and he’s from Wancheng too... Could it be, that night on West Mountain, the one who injured Master that badly was actually him?" As that thought flashed by, the man in black’s pupils shrank again and again, his soul practically flying out of his body, and the last bit of fighting spirit in his heart vanished completely. But when Martial Artists clash, what they rely on is that fierce and valiant momentum. With him suddenly weakening like that, Lin Mu’s aura surged even higher. The two of them traded only fifteen or sixteen moves by the riverbank before the man in black took a heavy punch to the chest and couldn’t help but spit out a mouthful of fresh blood, suffering another brutal hit.

"Heh, your skills aren’t bad. You’ve already trained your martial arts up to the Transformation Realm, but your mental state is crap. Sigh, serves you right. Lie down for me."

Lin Mu roared angrily, spun around and unleashed two Invincible Heart-piercing Kicks in a row, booting the man in black more than ten meters away.

Seeing the situation basically wrapped up, Lin Mu was just about to go forward and grab him for a slow interrogation when a faint sound of footsteps rang out. In the blink of an eye, a tall woman came walking around from behind a pile of rubble.

The man in black’s eyes lit up. Somehow he dredged up a burst of strength, sprang up from the ground, and lunged straight at the woman. The woman’s reaction wasn’t slow either. She let out a crisp shout, lifted her long right leg, and swung a side kick. Her movement was textbook, full of force and momentum—if it were some random punk on the street, he’d normally eat the shot, go down, and howl in pain. Unfortunately, the man in black wasn’t some street punk. Even though he was badly injured, he was still a genuine Huajin expert. This attack that looked fierce coming from the woman, in his eyes was nothing but flashy moves full of openings. He shifted his steps, easily dodged, took a single stride forward, and clamped his hand around the woman’s snow-white neck.

It sounds long when told, but the whole process took only the time of two breaths. Lin Mu had only managed to run two steps when the woman had already turned into a hostage, her throat locked by the man in black and her body held in front of him. "Don’t move. If you dare take one more step, I’ll twist her head off right now."

"Uh, come on, brother, can you at least be accurate with your wording? Her head’s that big, how exactly are you twisting it off? If anything, it’s her neck you’d be twisting, right?"

"...Quit fucking yapping. If you want her to live, get your ass out of the park right now!"

"Heh, did your brain short-circuit? I’ve got no ties to her at all—why the hell would I let you off just to keep her alive?"

Lin Mu rolled his eyes, stretched his legs and said carelessly, "Plus, ’hero saves beauty’ is only a classic trope when the girl’s actually pretty. Look at this chick—dark and ugly. Even if I had nothing better to do, I wouldn’t compromise for her. So yeah, if you’re gonna kill her, hurry up and kill. Once you’re done I’ll bury the two of you together..."

"You’re the one who’s dark and ugly! Lin Mu, you’re a son of a bitch, I hate you to death." The woman, her face blanching, suddenly exploded into cursing.

Lin Mu: "..."

As expected, the constantly shifting expression on the man in black’s face suddenly steadied. He stopped backing up, sneered and said, "So you two know each other. What a sly little brat—almost let you talk me into it."

"Lei Xiaojiao, it’s only been half a day, how did your tiny bit of IQ all migrate to your chest?"

Our dear Lin scratched his hair in frustration, his eyes so aggrieved they could almost melt stone.

That’s right, this woman who suddenly showed up only to be subdued by the man in black was none other than Lei Xiaojiao, the police-flower of Wancheng Police Station. To speak of it, what she’d seen this morning in the Binhe parking lot had hit her extremely hard. Every time she thought of how the man she had feelings for turned out to be some philandering playboy, Lei Xiaojiao fell into utter grief and despair, her heart ashen. Without realizing it, she’d wandered into Wancheng Park. Watching the surging river rolling by, the police-flower whose career and love life had both taken a beating cried her eyes out, and even started having thoughts of jumping into the river to end it all.

Luckily, she was really exhausted. Crying and crying, she ended up leaning against the pile of rocks and dozed off. It wasn’t until the sounds of fighting rang out that she was startled awake.

After that, curiosity led her to walk out—and she became the man in black’s captive.

"Bastard, pervert, how are you not dead yet?" See, heartbreak can drive a woman insane. At this moment the police-flower wasn’t even scared; instead she glared wide-eyed at him, puffed up with anger.

"Damn, can we not start off with a curse like that?"

"Curse you? I’d love nothing more than to bite you to death right now."

"Uh..."

Lin Mu was about to speak, but the man in black’s face darkened and he shouted, "Are you two done? Shut the hell up!"

"See, this is all because you don’t know how to behave—you made the boss mad." Lin Mu glared at Lei Xiaojiao, then his expression shifted and he plastered on a fawning smile. "Big bro, don’t stoop to her level. I’ll leave right now, walk straight out of the park. Just, uh, please don’t hurt her, okay?"

"Hold it. Who said you could leave? You want to play hero and save the damsel, you think you can do that without paying a price?"

The man in black suddenly smiled coldly. "I’ve changed my mind. If you want her to live, break your own four limbs first."

Lin Mu’s mouth twitched twice. "Bro, that’s a bit excessive, don’t you think?"

Talk about the wheel of fortune turning—ten years east of the river, ten years west of the river. This extra nobody had been beaten by him like a dog ten seconds ago, but now, ten seconds later, he’d staged a full-on comeback. Just seeing that ridiculously badass, show-off ugly face, Lin Mu’s teeth itched with hatred.
