Chapter 1616 -1630: Lin Mu the Flirt

“Just one ticket, then what should I do, Sis? People want to go with you.”

“No way, I haven’t been to the office in a long time, and there’s still a lot to handle. Who knows how long it will take? You should go on your own and not waste it…”

Watching the drag queen being pushed away by Sophie, Lin Mu couldn’t help wiping his forehead, cold sweat streaming down as he said, “Oh my god, where on earth did this bizarre brother of yours come from?”

“Nanny Wang brought him back from her hometown. She said he just graduated from Cambridge and couldn’t find a suitable job back home, so she begged me to arrange a position at the company for him to gain some experience.” Sophie sighed, looking helpless.

“Nanny Wang’s son?” Lin Mu’s expression turned serious, and he frowned thoughtfully.

“What’s up? Why the face?”

“Nothing.” Lin Mu shook his head, suddenly grinning, “I was just thinking, no wonder it’s the land of gays; two years of school there and even his sexual orientation changed. Geez, poor Old Lady Wu having a son who loves men…”

“He’d be easier if he liked men.” Surprisingly, Sophie didn’t rebuke Lin Mu’s crude joke; instead, she rubbed her cheeks in frustration, feeling troubled, “This guy confessed to me on his first day in Yunhai.”

“What?” Lin Mu was dumbstruck, his hand shook, and the suitcase he was holding fell heavily, landing on his foot.

“Idiot, be careful, won’t you?” Sophie was amused and exasperated, she quickly stepped forward to help Lin Mu, but unexpectedly, she was pulled by his strength and lost her balance too. The two of them embraced each other, stumbling backwards several steps until Sophie’s back pressed against the car to steady themselves.

“That hurt like hell.” Lin Mu hissed, gasping, his complexion turning pallid.

“Serves you right, can’t even hold a suitcase; what else can you do?”

The female boss pouted, not pushing away the man leaning on her. After all, Lin Mu’s wounds hadn’t fully healed; a fall might tear them open, complicating the situation.

Unfortunately, her kindness came at a wrong moment.

Lei Xiaojiao had just gotten out of the car when she saw the two in an intimate posture.

“Lin Mu! You bastard!” Her delicately made-up face paled instantly, feeling incredibly wronged. Her nose tingled, and tears streamed down.

Lin Mu was taken aback, not expecting Lei Xiaojiao to be there.

Just as he was about to speak, she slammed the car door in anger, stepping on the accelerator, roaring away; her visit sudden, her departure decisive.

“Wow, you really have a knack for attracting trouble; even she’s fallen for you?”

Sophie brushed her hair behind her ear teasingly, though her eyes bore no warmth.

“Uh! It’s not what you think.” Lin Mu tugged at the corner of his mouth.

“Don’t bother explaining; I don’t want to hear it.” Sophie snorted, proudly tilting her chin, akin to a swan, she elegantly turned and took the elevator, leaving behind a pile of luggage and Lin Mu in the parking lot.

“What a rotten day!”

Still torn between finding Sophie or chasing Lei Xiaojiao, Lin Mu’s phone suddenly rang.

The call was from Bai Wuchang—Cheng Xu. In Cheng Xu’s mind, Lin Mu had become synonymous with brutality; if not for the case being too tricky, he wouldn’t dare call him rashly.

Indeed, the way Lin Mu avenged his woman made Cheng Xu shudder! Over a hundred people in Juxian Manor were slaughtered by him alone, with any Lanzai who attacked Ling Xiaoqiao that night killed on the spot. Even the notorious Master Gang was chopped up and fed to dogs, leaving no whole body behind. Then, a police car escorting criminals was hijacked; although Ghost Zhong’s whereabouts remain unknown, it’s clear he was sent to report to King Yama.

Truth be told, after learning these two pieces of news, Cheng Xu felt a chill down his spine, scared out of his wits. If not for Lin Mu calling later asking him to protect Ling Xiaoqiao temporarily, Cheng Xu, tormented by fear, might have already fled to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand for his life.

At the Supreme International Club, in the third-floor private room, Lin Mu sat on the sofa impatiently.

“Where are they? Just get to the point; I don’t have time to waste playing around here with you!”

The situation with Lei Xiaojiao left him feeling uneasy, his mood undeniably foul, and his words were harsh.

Startled, Cheng Xu hurried to clear his thoughts, rising respectfully, “Boss, this matter is quite eerie, there’s nothing I can do hence I requested your presence. They’re inside; shall I trouble you to step in?” As he spoke, Cheng Xu retreated two steps, swiping on the touchscreen, and with a squeak, the wall inside the room slowly peeled away, revealing a staircase extending downwards in front of them.

“Well, aren’t you clever, with hidden tricks and all. What’s this? An escape route or a hidden room?” Lin Mu raised an eyebrow.

“Boss is wise; nothing escapes your eyes.”

Cheng Xu flattered, gesturing invitingly, “It’s a secret room; usually storing valuable items. We know, living on the edge in the underworld, life is precarious; you never know when something might happen, best to have a secretive place saving something for the family to live on…”

Indeed, folks like Cheng Xu may be glorified as gang leaders, but more accurately, they are societal cancers; the fortunate may turn legit, while the unlucky might be nabbed by the police for a political win. At that point, any assets in banks will surely be seized. Thus, more Lanzai are reverting to old ways, following the ancestors’ footsteps, creating ‘little vaults’. Of course, these are highly confidential, known only to the individual. Cheng Xu revealing this openly suggests he might be showcasing loyalty to Lin Mu.

As they spoke, Cheng Xu had already opened the security door.

The room was small, about ten square meters, with several suitcases on either side, likely Cheng Xu’s stash. In the corner was a mattress where a person reeking of decay lay sideways. Hearing sounds, he struggled to sit up.

His hair was white and sparse, his eyes muddy like an elderly man nearing death. His skin lost its shine, wrinkly and dotted with blue spots, looking terrifyingly grotesque; most bizarre was his breath forming cold mist and breathing sounded like ice shards rubbing together in his lungs.
