The SSS-rank Guide Doesn't Need Saving
Chapter 155: Death of a Sentinel
The Sentinel couldn’t believe that he had been stabbed by a dagger coated in miasma. But it was not something anyone could’ve expected. Who actually dared to make use of miasma as a weapon? Perhaps, there were people like that, and he had never met them.
But to think that a young woman like her could’ve thought of that?
"Just who are you?"
His body staggered as he felt the violent effects of the miasma inside his body. His leg felt like it was about to melt, and he could see the black roots already climbing beneath his skin. It was unknown how long he could stay alive without being purified by a Guide, but he couldn’t die like this!
Gritting his teeth, the Sentinel used his own fist to smash his corrupted leg. He amputated his leg with a punch strengthened by his enhanced strength!
By doing this, he could stop the miasma from spreading through his body and still be able to fight. Even if it meant temporarily becoming one-legged, it didn’t matter. For as long as he could get out of here, he’d be able to seek out a healing pod and get his leg reconnected. If that was impossible... he’d get a prosthetic leg instead!
Already calculating how he’ll get by in the future with just one leg, the Sentinel started his counterattack. He commanded his fireballs, which had fluctuated when he realized he had been infected, to reform and descend on Aisha even faster.
However, Aisha was faster than him. She took advantage of the lapse he showed just now as she drove another dagger, also coated with miasma, into the top of his head, breaching his hard skull and stabbing into his brain.
Then, she let go of the handle and pushed herself off his back, flipping backward in a beautiful crescent arc and landing on her feet just as the fireballs finally fell onto the Sentinel’s entire body.
The Sentinel couldn’t even scream, as he was already dead. With his brain taking damage and the miasma already eating away at it, there was no way for him to survive!
Soon, the smell of burning flesh and hair wafted through the air.
Amidst this, the smoke in the room slowly cleared away.
The flames crackled as they started to lick the Sentinel’s skin, burning it to a crisp. He was still standing when he died, so once the smoke disappeared, the sight of him caused a grand wave of confusion and terror among those who could finally see what was happening.
It was especially true for the remaining guard still alive. He was in the middle of attacking, but the smoke earlier made him unable to properly judge where Aisha was located. The only thing guiding him was the orange light from the fireballs, and he was already headed there.
But seeing his superior, who wasn’t just strong but also a Sentinel, the guard’s grip on his weapon loosened, and it fell to the floor with a crisp sound. At the same time, he fell onto his butt as he realized that he had reached his superior. He was so close that he could even see the Sentinel’s eyes still open in death, with the miasma moving behind his sclera.
"Uwwaah!!!"
The guard could only scream as he tried to back off.
At this moment, his consciousness was a little fuzzy. It was as though there was only one thought in his mind, and that was to escape and avoid dying!
He tried to get up and flee, but two silver lights whistled past his head and lodged into the ground below. When he looked down, he saw two needles sticking up from the ground.
If he had stepped forward by even an inch, those two needles would have stabbed him in the face!
As he retreated, Aisha leisurely walked over.
"Running away?" Aisha’s gaze narrowed as she looked at him.
"Do you even know where this is?" The guard glared at her. Knowing that he could not run away, he decided to intimidate her. "If people find out that you attacked this sacred place, you and your family will die! I’m not joking. Our Order has never let anyone leave after disobeying us!"
"Order?" Aisha raised an eyebrow. "Is it the Association?"
The guard sneered. "Ha! The Association? Don’t make me laugh... The Association can’t even hold a candle to our Order. If our Elders want to, we can even flatten this planet into dust!"
Aisha’s pupils shook at his words, and she fell into contemplation. She didn’t immediately believe him, but there was something off about the confidence and arrogance he showed.
After getting through this place with the permit Zeke handed to her, Aisha had suspected that the Association had some ties with this place since it was able to get through the access node to the contaminated zone owned by the Susa Merchant Corps.
But it seemed she had been wrong to think like this.
She had almost forgotten that powerful forces like the Association were not limited to this planet. There were thousands of other star systems that had their own organizations and forces that could contend against the Association. Perhaps, they could also, like the guard had told her, make an entire planet go extinct.
However, this wasn’t something she needed to think deeply about right now.
Fortunately, she was able to get some answers from the guard. An external powerful force, the Order, was involved in this. But Aisha wasn’t in a rush to get revenge on them.
At this moment, what mattered to her was finding Zenick before everything was too late.
"Woman, if you let me live, I’ll let you join us in the Order, too." The guard switched up his approach. He felt that Aisha’s talent and fierceness were qualities that no one could copy. "It would be a waste to let a talented and powerful person like you rot on a planet like this. It would be better if you join hands with me and see how the Order will reign over the entire universe!"
He didn’t fully see how she defeated the Sentinel, but that alone was worthy of praise. Besides, he didn’t see her use any ability. Thus, the guard thought that she might not be a Sentinel or Guide. She was just an ordinary person like him, yet she had been able to defeat a Sentinel with a fire-type ability.
If the Order got a person like her, they could make use of her talent. She would be more useful as a soldier than those who had died in that room or perhaps... a high-quality Miasma Vessel!
