Chapter 489: A Bad Idea

The battle finally came to an end, leaving the city in complete chaos. Selena immediately ordered her subordinates to clean up the destruction and begin rebuilding the damaged areas. Although a large part of the city had been destroyed, the damage was nowhere near as severe as it had been the previous time, so the residents could only be grateful for that.

Many of the citizens were still hesitant about remaining in the city, but Selena managed to reassure them, promising that as long as she remained in charge, there would be no more conflicts like this.

Of course, everyone knew that this was a lawless city where trouble was bound to happen sooner or later. In the end, they had no other choice but to remain and continue living there.

As for Garrick, he demanded that Selena hold Gill responsible for the chaos he had caused, but Selena refused. Gill had only done it because he had been forced into it. However, that didn’t mean Gill would escape punishment. He would have to work in the city for the time being as punishment, and Gill accepted it without complaint, knowing that he was partly responsible for what had happened.

Before Garrick left, Gill called out to him.

"We’re the same, you know. We both killed someone close to us just to survive. So I hope we can work together next time."

Garrick merely snorted.

"We’re nothing alike."

With those words, he turned around and walked away, returning to his bar.

Meanwhile, back at Selena’s headquarters, Selena was once again wearing her usual smile as she looked at Adam.

"Fortunately, this incident was resolved without too much fatal loss," she said, her voice light. "It’s all thanks to you, Adam. Thank you."

Adam shook his head. "It wasn’t just me. Alice, Azrynn, and Ignis helped you too. You should thank them as well."

Selena smiled at him. "Of course I know that. But if you hadn’t been here, I might not have made it."

"Don’t talk like that," Adam said. "That’s not like you. Even if we hadn’t been here, I’m sure you would’ve found a way to survive. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have made it this far."

Those words brought a sense of calm to Selena. They reminded her that everything she had fought for had not been meaningless. She was no longer the helpless woman she once was.

She let out a small chuckle. "Yeah... I guess you’re right."

Seeing the confidence return to Selena’s eyes, Adam slowly rose from his seat.

"Well, I should get going. I’m worried about the others too."

Selena’s smile faded for a moment. She had expected him to leave eventually, but somehow, hearing him say it still left a small emptiness in her chest.

"Alright," she said, hiding her disappointment behind a faint smile. "If you need anything, just tell me. I’ll prepare whatever you need."

Adam turned toward the door, but just before leaving, he stopped and glanced back at her.

"Don’t push yourself too hard, Selena. Focus on rebuilding this city first. Everyone here needs you right now... more than I do."

Selena stared at him for a moment before a soft laugh escaped her lips.

"Alright, Mr. Dragon."

Adam smiled faintly, then opened the door. He paused for just a moment before stepping outside, as if silently acknowledging her words, and then closed the door behind him.

As Adam made his way back to their room, his thoughts returned to the conflict with the demons.

He had healed them and restored their bodies to how they were before the battle, but that didn’t mean they had forgiven him. He could still sense the resentment they held toward him.

But killing them wasn’t an option either. The ones he had fought were four of the Demon King’s Heavenly Kings. If he killed them, his relationship with the Demon King would undoubtedly suffer, and that could create an even bigger problem.

For now, all Adam could do was hope the conflict wouldn’t escalate too far.

When he finally reached their room, he let out a tired sigh.

"Haaah... I’ll worry about it later."

He opened the door and found Ignis, Alice, and Azrynn already asleep. Only Sera, Lilith, and Isolde were still awake, sitting together on the sofa.

Judging by the look of them, they seemed to have been discussing something before he arrived.

Adam walked over, and the three women turned their attention toward him. He sat down beside Sera and glanced between them.

"Did I interrupt something?"

Lilith smiled mischievously. "Nothing important."

Adam gave her a suspicious look but decided not to press the matter. Whatever they had been talking about was probably something women would rather keep between themselves.

Instead, he changed the subject.

"Why aren’t you guys asleep yet? And how is everyone else doing?"

Isolde answered calmly, "There shouldn’t be any lasting problems. Ignis only lost control of her new power because she had just evolved into a True Dragon. Alice and Azrynn are fine too. None of them suffered any serious injuries, so you can relax."

Adam sighed in relief.

"That’s good to hear. But..." He turned toward Sera. "Why are you here, Sera? If someone sees you here this late at night, they might get the wrong idea. Especially with your subordinates here too."

Sera blinked, seemingly caught off guard by the question. "Get the wrong idea?"

Adam nodded seriously.

"Yeah. You know how people talk."

Sera frowned slightly. "What exactly do you mean by that? We’ve done this before, so why are you bringing it up now?"

Adam shrugged. "Well, if you’re not bothered by it, then never mind."

Isolde glanced at him. "Since when do you care about what other people think, Adam? Besides, we should probably talk about something more important."

Adam raised an eyebrow. "Oh? So you were talking about something important?"

Isolde’s face immediately reddened, and she quickly looked away.

"Y-Yeah... we were."

Adam noticed her unusual reaction and became even more curious. He opened his mouth to ask what they had been discussing, but before he could say anything, Lilith smoothly cut in.

"Speaking of important things, Adam..." Her playful smile faded slightly. "There’s something we should talk about. About you healing those demons."

Adam’s expression became more serious.

Lilith continued, "I think that might have been a very bad idea."
