The Smiling Death
Chapter 601: Date With Seraphina [5]
Golden light gradually spread across the city, signaling the arrival of evening.
The streets had become even more lively at this hour.
People were returning home after a long day, while others were only beginning their evening outings. Vendors were preparing for the approaching night, adventurers gathered in small groups around the corners of busy streets, and laughter occasionally echoed through the air.
Under the warm orange glow of the setting sun, the entire city seemed almost unreal.
Like something straight out of a beautiful fantasy. And among those bustling streets walked a young couple, their hands intertwined.
They were Amon and Seraphina.
"We should head back to the academy now," Seraphina said softly. "It’s getting late."
"Sure." Amon glanced at her and smiled.
"I really enjoyed today’s date." Her voice was gentle and small, but enough for Amon to hear.
"Hehe~ I’m happy to hear that." Amon’s smile grew brighter, "We should go on a date every weekend. It would be fun."
Seraphina’s eyes softened. "Then I’m looking forward to it." A gentle smile formed on her lips.
The fading sunlight illuminated her fair skin with a warm orange hue, making her already beautiful features appear even more radiant.
Her golden-blonde hair shimmered beneath the evening light, strands of it glowing like threads of gold whenever the breeze moved through them.
Amon quietly stared at her for a moment. ’I’m really lucky.’
His mind drifted back through everything that had happened to him. His life had never been particularly kind. He had lost his parents at a young age.
He had been forced to survive on his own. Then he had come to the academy, hoping to build a better life, only to become involved in one dangerous situation after another.
There had been battles. Near-death experiences.
Enemies and pain all the way in one single year. Moments when he genuinely wondered whether he would survive the next day.
And yet despite all of that, Amon couldn’t help feeling that the happiness he had gained during the past year outweighed much of the suffering he had endured.
He had gained wonderful friends. He had found a senior he could trust. He had met a kind professor who had become someone important to him.
And somehow, unbelievably, he had even found love.
Not just once, he had two unbelievably beautiful women who genuinely cared about him.
Amon had never imagined something like that would happen to an orphan who had spent most of his life alone.
Yet somehow, life had given him something far more precious than he had ever expected.
"What are you thinking about so deeply?"
Seraphina’s voice pulled him out of his thoughts.
She was looking at him from the side. At some point, her fingers had tightened around his, their hands remaining comfortably intertwined as they walked.
Amon glanced at her. Then a mischievous smirk appeared on his face.
"Well..."
He paused deliberately. "I was thinking about our little secret in the changing room."
Seraphina’s eyes widened. Her face instantly turned red. "D-Damn you, Amon!"
She puffed out her cheeks and quickly turned her face away from him.
Amon laughed. He couldn’t help finding her reaction adorable.
’She’s definitely never going to forget today.’
His mind suddenly wandered toward another thought.
’Maybe I could put something like this into my novel.’
He stroked his chin thoughtfully.
’Maybe something a little more naughty things?’
He quickly reconsidered. ’Although... I’ve already put plenty of that stuff in there.’
Amon’s expression became thoughtful. Then another person suddenly came to mind.
’I wonder what Senior Selena would think after reading it.’
He became genuinely curious.
’I’ll ask her tomorrow. Or whenever she’s free.’
A mischievous smile returned to his face.
’It’ll be fun to see her reaction.’
Seraphina suddenly narrowed her golden eyes at him.
"Now you’re making the face of someone who’s expecting something interesting from a particular person."
Amon froze. He slowly turned toward her. ’...What?’
She had somehow guessed exactly what he was thinking.
’That’s scary.’ Amon stared at her in disbelief.
"Damn, you’re amazing."
Seraphina blinked. "Why?"
"How can you tell what I’m thinking just by looking at my face?"
A small smile appeared on her lips. "Well, sometimes you’re very good at hiding what you’re thinking."
She looked ahead as she continued. "But when you’re relaxed and enjoying yourself, you’re practically an open book."
Her tone made it sound like the answer was obvious.
Amon remained silent for a moment.
"Huh..." He looked thoughtful. "So that’s how you can tell."
He rubbed his chin. "Hmm. I need to get better at controlling my expressions." Amon nodded seriously. "Yes. I need to become a calm and indifferent person."
Seraphina glanced at him. "You?" She struggled to hold back a laugh. "A calm and indifferent person?"
Amon looked offended. "Why are you laughing?"
"Nothing."
"You’re definitely laughing at me."
Seraphina only smiled.
The two continued walking together until the familiar academy grounds finally came into view.
Amon could already see the academy gates in the distance. He looked toward them and sighed.
"Well... I guess we’re back."
"Yeah."
Seraphina gently squeezed his hand before releasing it.
"Let’s freshen up first. Then we’ll meet at the cafeteria."
She thought for a moment. "Eliana and Aisha should already be there."
Amon nodded. Then he suddenly remembered someone else. It was Marcus, as wide grin appeared across his face.
"Hehe..."
Seraphina immediately recognized that expression. "What are you thinking now?"
"Nothing." Amon’s grin only grew wider. "It’s time to meet our friends."
Seraphina gave him a suspicious look. She clearly didn’t believe him. But before she could ask anything else, Amon turned toward her.
He leaned closer and gently kissed her lips.
Seraphina’s eyes widened for a brief moment. Then she relaxed.
She didn’t pull away. Instead, she closed her eyes and returned the kiss softly. They were still little away from academy, and there was no one in this path to look at them.
When they finally separated, a faint blush remained on her cheeks.
"I’ll meet you at the cafeteria in half an hour," she said quietly.
Amon smiled.
"Okay."
They exchanged one last look before going towards the gate and entering the academy together.
Once inside, they eventually parted ways, each heading toward their respective dormitory rooms.
The date was over.
But for Amon, the warmth of the evening and the happiness he had felt walking beside Seraphina remained with him long after they separated.
