The Smiling Death

Chapter 584: Because I really love her

  • Next Chapter

"Hmmm..."

A beautiful woman with long silver hair cascading down her back like a shimmering waterfall stared at the two young people standing before her.

Her fair complexion contrasted sharply with her crimson-red eyes, which were currently fixed on them with an unreadable expression.

She was none other than Selena.

She had returned to the academy earlier that day after completing her mission, only to be greeted by an unexpected revelation from two of her closest juniors.

Selena sat calmly behind her desk in the student council office, her hands resting neatly before her.

Across from her sat Amon and Seraphina.

"So..." Selena finally spoke, her crimson eyes moving between the two of them.

"You are saying that the two of you have started dating?"

"Yes."

Seraphina nodded, her cheeks carrying a faint blush.

Amon rubbed the back of his neck and looked away.

"Yeah... somehow, we ended up dating."

Seraphina immediately turned toward him.

"It’s not ’somehow.’"

Amon froze.

"You confessed to me."

"Ah..."

Amon’s expression stiffened.

Selena slowly narrowed her eyes at him.

There was a brief silence. Then she sighed and rubbed her forehead.

"Amon..."

"Yes?"

"Do you even understand how dangerous it is for you to date a noble lady when you’re a commoner?"

Her tone became more serious.

"And not just any noble lady. She’s the daughter of a Duke, the heir to one of the strongest ducal families in the kingdom, and the future Duchess."

Amon nodded confidently.

"Of course I understand."

Selena raised an eyebrow.

"My first lover is also from a ducal family."

Selena’s expression immediately became complicated.

"Ah..."

She leaned back in her chair.

"Right. Scarlett."

She sighed again.

"You really do understand what you’re getting yourself into, don’t you?"

"Hehe~"

Amon gave an awkward smile.

Seraphina quietly looked away, her cheeks becoming slightly warmer at the reminder that Amon already had another lover.

Selena noticed it but decided not to comment.

Instead, she folded her arms.

"Then why did you two suddenly decide to tell me about this?"

"It was Amon’s idea," Seraphina answered.

Selena’s gaze immediately shifted toward him.

Amon nodded.

"Yes. I thought it would be better to tell you beforehand."

"And why?"

Amon leaned back slightly.

"Because you’re the future Queen of Valmoria."

Selena’s eyes narrowed.

"And?"

"I’d rather have your support than have you find out from someone else."

He smiled innocently.

"Having the future Queen on my side sounds pretty useful to me."

For a moment, Selena simply stared at him.

Then her eyes widened slightly.

"Damn, Amon."

She leaned back in her chair, looking genuinely impressed.

"You’re actually becoming smarter."

Amon’s grin widened.

"Hehe~ I’ve been learning."

"Don’t look so proud."

Selena shook her head.

"You’re still an idiot."

"That’s harsh."

Seraphina covered her mouth, trying not to laugh.

Selena then rested her chin against one hand.

"However..."

Her expression suddenly changed. A mischievous smile appeared on her lips.

"There’s something I’m curious about."

Amon’s smile faded slightly.

"What?"

"Why do you think I won’t tell Seraphina’s family?"

The room became silent.

Amon’s expression froze.

"..."

Seraphina blinked.

Selena’s smile widened. "You’ve thought this through quite carefully, haven’t you?"

Amon’s face slowly lost its color.

"Wait..."

His voice became noticeably weaker.

"You’re not actually planning to tell them, right?"

Selena tilted her head.

"Why wouldn’t I?"

"Because..."

Amon swallowed.

"Because we’re friends?"

Selena’s smile became even more dangerous.

"That is not a convincing argument."

Amon immediately turned toward Seraphina.

"Sera."

She blinked. "What?"

"Help me."

Seraphina stared at him for a moment before awkwardly looking away. "I... don’t know how..."

Amon’s jaw dropped. "You’re abandoning me already?! If your family got to know, it’s me who would face danger not you!!"

Selena chuckled.

"This is getting entertaining."

Amon slowly turned back toward Selena.

"Please don’t tell them."

Selena raised an eyebrow.

"And why should I keep your little secret?"

Amon fell silent.

His mind raced through every possible excuse. Absolutely nothing.

Finally, he gave her his most sincere expression.

"Because I really love her."

The playful atmosphere disappeared for a moment.

Seraphina’s eyes widened. Her face immediately turned crimson.

Selena looked between the two of them.

Then a small smile appeared on her face.

"...That was actually a decent answer."

Amon sighed in relief.

"But I’m still thinking about it."

His relief vanished instantly.

"WHAT?!" he was shocked and then said further.

"Don’t tell anyone!!"

Amon practically pleaded as he leaned forward in his chair, his expression suddenly becoming serious.

Selena raised an eyebrow.

"Why?"

Amon froze for a moment.

His mind raced, desperately searching for an excuse. Then, without thinking, he blurted out the first thing that came to mind.

"Because... I also love you, my senior!"

Silence. The entire room seemed to stop.

Selena’s eyes widened. "What?!"

Seraphina’s eyes widened as well. She immediately turned toward Amon, her face flushing with disbelief.

"Amon!! Not so fast!"

She pointed accusingly at him. "You just confessed to me two days ago, and you’re already looking for a third one?!"

"Wait, wait—"

Amon raised both hands defensively.

But Selena was already staring at him as if he had suddenly grown another head. "Amon, you crazy bastard!"

She couldn’t believe what she had just heard.

She knew Amon was probably only teasing. He had clearly blurted it out in desperation, without even thinking about what he was saying.

Still that was the first time Selena had ever heard those words from a man.

I love you.

For some reason, the words felt strangely embarrassing. She quickly shook off the thought.

Meanwhile, Amon scratched the back of his head awkwardly.

"Hehe~ I’m just joking."

He gave an innocent smile.

"But..."

His expression changed slightly as he looked at Selena.

"If you really tried to tell Seraphina’s family about us..."

He paused dramatically. "Then I might just seduce you as well."

Selena stared at him.

Amon stared back.

Seraphina stared at both of them.

Nobody said anything.

"Pfft—hahahahaha!"

Selena suddenly burst into laughter. She covered her mouth with one hand, but that did little to stop her laughter.

Amon sighed in relief.

"Relax. I won’t do anything without considering the consequences." She said.

His body relaxed completely, and he collapsed slightly against the back of his chair.

"You’re going to give me a heart attack..."

Selena shook her head with amusement.

"You brought this trouble upon yourself, Amon."

"That’s true..."

Amon muttered.

Seraphina quietly glanced at him.

Despite the embarrassment and uncertainty surrounding their new relationship, she couldn’t help but smile faintly.

Amon was ridiculous.

Yet somehow, that ridiculousness was one of the things she had come to like about him.

She had only started dating him two days ago, and already she was witnessing him shamelessly threatening a future queen with seduction.

Still, there was something comforting about knowing that he could make her smile even during awkward moments like this.

Selena leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms.

"You and seducing me?"

A mischievous smile appeared on her lips.

"That’s a very dangerous threat. So I suppose I have no choice but to do as you say."

Amon grinned. "Hehe~ Just support us. We’re going to keep this hidden."

"Okay, okay."

Selena waved her hand dismissively.

"I won’t say anything."

Amon immediately relaxed.

"Thank you, Senior Selena."

Selena smiled.

"But don’t blame me if everything comes crashing down later."

"That’s future Amon’s problem." He said without any worry.

"Amazing attitude." Selena was always amazed at polar opposite attitudes.

Seraphina couldn’t help but let out a small laugh.

Amon then suddenly remembered something.

"Oh, by the way, Senior..."

"Hm?"

"I’ve completed the entire plot, story, and outline for my first book."

Selena raised an eyebrow. "Your first book?"

"Yep. Even the ending."

"Oh?"

Her interest immediately increased. "So Writer Amon is moving that fast?"

"Yes."

Amon nodded proudly. He reached toward his storage ring.

"So I wanted to show you the outline and see whether you think it has a chance or not."

Seraphina’s curiosity was immediately piqued.

She looked toward Amon.

"You wrote the entire story?"

"Well, the complete outline."

Amon smiled. "I’ll show you both."

He pulled out a notebook from storage ring. The notebook looked considerably more worn than Selena expected.

There were countless pages inside, some filled with writing, others covered in small notes and corrections.

Amon handed it to Selena.

"Here."

Selena accepted the notebook and opened it. Her eyes moved across the first page. She continued flipping through the pages.

Her expression gradually changed. There was far more written inside than she had expected.

Amon had apparently put serious effort into it. After flipping through several sections, Selena looked up.

"You wrote a lot."

Amon smiled proudly.

"Of course."

Selena glanced back down at the notebook.

"There are quite a few sections here. The plot, characters, events, worldbuilding..."

She flipped through several more pages. "This is going to take some time to read."

Amon nodded enthusiastically. "Take your time. I want your honest opinion."

Selena closed the notebook slightly. "I’ll read the whole thing when I have enough time. Then I’ll tell you what I think."

"Okay!"

Amon nodded happily.

He looked genuinely excited.

Seraphina, who had been quietly watching the exchange, leaned slightly toward Selena.

"Sister Selena..."

Selena looked at her. "When you’re finished reading it, could you give it to me?"

Her curiosity was obvious.

Selena smiled. "Of course."

She held up the notebook. "I’ll give it to you once I’m done."
