The Smiling Death
Chapter 575: He is...
"He is a descendant of Demon King Andhaka."
Everyone fell silent once again.
For aa while, neither Amanda nor Astaroth said a word. Finally, Amanda broke the silence, her eyes widening in disbelief.
"Wa-wait! Are you certain? You're saying Lark is a descendant of Demon King Andhaka?"
"Yes. I'm certain."
Nyxariel's expression remained serious as she continued.
"After Demon King Andhaka was killed by Aureliath, the Avatar of the Goddess of Light, the Demon Royal Family was overthrown. They were eventually killed by their own people during the rebellion."
She paused for a moment before continuing.
"But if I remember the historical records correctly, the queen managed to escape with her young son before the rebellion forces could capture them."
Nyxariel's gaze became distant.
"No one knows where they went after that. Their whereabouts were completely unknown, and eventually, the royal bloodline was believed to have vanished."
Astaroth frowned.
"Then how can you be certain that Lark is their descendant, Your Majesty?"
Nyxariel looked at him.
"I investigated his background."
She paused before continuing.
"After conducting a thorough investigation into his family and the village where he grew up, we discovered something that caught my attention."
"What did you find?" Amanda asked.
"A crest."
Nyxariel's eyes narrowed slightly.
"It had been passed down through Lark's family for generations. According to Lark, his family considered the crest extremely important and had preserved it for as long as anyone could remember."
Amanda frowned.
"And he didn't know where it came from?"
"Apparently not. He knew that it was important to his family, but he had no idea about its true origin."
Nyxariel leaned back in her chair.
"But I recognized it immediately."
Astaroth's eyes narrowed.
"You recognized the crest?"
"Yes."
Nyxariel nodded.
"I had seen it before—in the historical records concerning the old Demon Royal Family. There is even a sketch of the exact same crest preserved in the ancient archives of our library."
Amanda's expression became serious.
"So that crest survived all these years... passed down from generation to generation?"
"Exactly."
Nyxariel nodded.
"That alone wouldn't be enough to prove his lineage. But when combined with everything else we discovered about his family, the connection became impossible to ignore."
She paused.
"Lark is almost certainly a descendant of Demon King Andhaka. So I decided to keep him alive. Maybe, he might become useful."

Back to Amon.
The group was on their way to the cafeteria for lunch. Amon walked silently behind the three girls, his gaze fixed on Seraphina.
'She's been acting strange...'
He frowned slightly.
'She's avoiding eye contact with me, and even when I accidentally get close to her, she seems to avoid the slightest touch. What did I do?'
He couldn't understand her behavior.
Then another thought crossed his mind.
'And more importantly... how am I supposed to make her fall in love with me?'
Amon felt utterly helpless.
He had no idea how to genuinely impress a woman or make someone develop feelings for him. Most of the things he did around women were simply for fun. He flirted, teased, and occasionally threw out ridiculous lines because he found their reactions entertaining.
But now that he actually wanted Seraphina to like him. He had absolutely no idea what he was doing.
'Maybe I should just behave normally.'
He nodded to himself.
'I'll act like I always do... but give Seraphina a little more attention.'
Soon, they reached the cafeteria. After collecting their meals, they found a table in the corner and sat down.
Seraphina took the first seat, and Amon immediately sat beside her. She glanced at him.
Their eyes met for barely a second. Then she quickly lowered her gaze toward her food.
Amon blinked.
'There she goes again.'
Across from them, Aisha and Eliana took their seats.
Amon picked up his spoon and casually looked toward Seraphina.
"Sera, can I ask you something?"
"Yes."
She continued eating, keeping her eyes fixed on her meal.
"Hmm... are you free after lunch?"
Her hand stopped midway. She looked at him.
"Yes, I am. Why?"
"Well, I wanted to take you somewhere."
"Where?"
Amon smiled mysteriously.
"Come on. You'll find out when you get there."
Seraphina hesitated for a moment before sighing softly.
"Alright... I will."
"Oh! I'm free too! Let me—"
Amon immediately raised his palm toward Eliana.
"Sorry, but I have something very important to do with Seraphina. I need to spend some time with her alone. Just the two of us."
Eliana blinked. There was silence at the table.
Aisha froze beside her, her wolf ears standing straight up.
Meanwhile, Seraphina had completely stopped eating. She stared at Amon with her mouth slightly open, the spoon still suspended in front of her.
Amon tilted his head.
"Hmm? Did I say something wrong?"
"Well..." Aisha narrowed her red eyes suspiciously. "The way you said that sounded... suspicious."
Seraphina immediately turned her head back toward her food. Her cheeks had turned a faint shade of pink.
Amon noticed it.
'She's blushing again...'
He stared at her for a moment.
'Just the two of us... I guess that does sound suspicious and misleading.'
But her reaction seemed far too strong.
She had already been acting strangely in the library, avoiding his gaze and becoming flustered whenever he got close.
Amon's brain began working overtime. He used all cells of his brain.
'Wait...'
His eyes widened slightly.
'The way she's been avoiding eye contact... The way she keeps flinching whenever I touch her in such cute way...The blushing.'
He slowly narrowed his eyes.
'Could all of this be pointing toward one thing?'
A ridiculous possibility entered his mind.
'Does she... actually like me?'
Amon fell completely silent. His mind entered deep contemplation as he tried to connect every little detail.
Ba-dump!
Ba-dump!
Ba-dump!
His heart started to beat faster.
"Amon!"
He couldn't even hear someone calling him.
'She... actually loves me?'
"Amon!"
Still no reaction came from him.
"Amon!"
He finally snapped back to reality.
"??!!"
Eliana was staring at him with an annoyed expression.
"We're talking to you!"
"Oh... right. Sorry."
Amon rubbed the back of his head.
"I was just thinking about something."
Aisha raised an eyebrow.
"What were you thinking about?"
"Actually, Scarlett wants to meet Sera and talk to her about something. She specifically told me not to bring anyone else."
Eliana blinked.
"Then why did you make it sound like you two were going somewhere alone?"
Amon looked genuinely confused.
"What did I say wrong?"
He shrugged.
"I said the same thing, didn't I? It's just the two of us because that's what Scarlett asked for."
Eliana stared at him for a few seconds.
Then she sighed.
"Okay... whatever. What does she wants to talk with her?"
Amon shake his head. " No idea."
Then he returned to his meal. But his mind had already returned to the same question.
'Does Seraphina really have feelings for me...? Or am I just overthinking?'
---
While Amon returned to his meal, Aisha quietly observed him before shifting her gaze toward Seraphina.
'Something isn't right here.'
She continued eating, but her attention remained on the two of them.
Seraphina had been acting strangely all morning. She was clearly avoiding Amon, yet at the same time, she seemed unusually conscious of his presence.
And Amon, Aisha's thoughts drifted to the way he behaved around Scarlett—the casual flirting, the affectionate gestures, and how naturally comfortable they were with each other.
To be honest, seeing the two of them together had made her feel... strange. It was weird. She couldn't quite put the feeling into words.
'No... that's not my problem.'
Aisha shook the thought away.
'I need to focus on my training. It has nothing to do with who Amon spends his time with.'
She clenched her fingers around the spoon.
'He's already become so much stronger...'
Her expression darkened.
'Damn it! I need to become stronger too.'
Her wolf tail swayed slowly behind her.
'He's always flirting around while I'm constantly training. So why can't I catch up to him?'
Her gaze briefly shifted toward Amon.
'Let alone Seraphina...'
She looked at the two of them again.
'And now they're apparently going somewhere alone together.'
Aisha didn't believe for a second that Amon was taking Seraphina somewhere simply because Scarlett wanted to talk to her.
Something about the whole situation felt suspicious. Something was wrong here. She knew it. Especially because Amon had been glancing at Seraphina far more often than usual today.
'Damn it...'
She lowered her gaze toward her food.
'Why am I even getting bothered by this?' She wondered about this. It wasn't as though she wanted to spend time alone with Amon.
Right?
Aisha shook her head firmly.
'Tch! I need to train harder and focus on achieving my goal.'
She nodded to herself as if reaffirming her determination. Then she looked up again.
Her eyes moved toward Amon. Then toward Seraphina. A brief silence passed.
'Fuck...'
That was the only thought that came to her mind.
