The Side Character Who Wins by Doing Nothing
Chapter 458: Preliminary Understanding of the Immortal Spirit Realm
Lu Sangjiu let Duoduo out, partly so it could cultivate and partly to act as a lookout. That way, she wouldn’t be caught completely off guard if danger appeared.
So, she forced herself to stay awake while Duoduo fawned over her for a bit. After giving it a few instructions, she couldn’t hold on any longer and collapsed into sleep.
This time, it wasn’t just physical exhaustion; the drain on her spiritual power had also been immense.
As a result, she slept for a full seven days before she finally recovered, returning completely to her peak condition.
Then, the moment she opened her eyes, she discovered that her Spirit Beast, which had only been at the Divinity Transformation Stage, was now suddenly at Late-stage Integration... It was just absurdly fast.
Lu Sangjiu was dumbfounded. Seeing this, Duoduo became incredibly smug, finally feeling a sense of vindication... even though its current cultivation was still a far cry from its master’s.
But that was fine. They were in the Immortal World now. Could reaching the Earth Immortal Level really be that far away?
Filled with these wonderful thoughts, Duoduo was motivated to strive harder. It just nuzzled against Lu Sangjiu for a moment before quickly moving to the side to enter a state of cultivation again.
Seeing it so motivated, Lu Sangjiu didn’t have the heart to interrupt. Besides, she was a newcomer here and completely in the dark. She ought to take this opportunity to properly understand the Immortal Spirit Realm before making any plans.
She had learned a few things about the Immortal Spirit Realm from Gu Jue before, but at the time, she was still a Cultivator from the Lower Realm. Gu Jue had said it wasn’t appropriate for her to know too much, so he had mainly focused on Ji Li and hadn’t shared much else.
Fortunately, when she left the Ascension Platform, that male cultivator had given her a Jade Scroll, which should contain more of the information she wanted to know.
She didn’t suspect he was trying to harm her with it. After all, she had just ascended and was at the very bottom of the Immortal Spirit Realm. ’Who would need to go through so much trouble to harm me?’
Without hesitation, she pressed the Jade Scroll to her forehead and began to read the information within.
The Immortal Spirit Realm was primarily divided into three major powers: the South Immortal Palace, the Beidie Palace, and the Demon God Palace.
As their names suggested, the first two powers were established by Immortal Cultivators, while the last one, the Demon God Palace, was the territory of Demon Cultivators.
Demon Cultivators were relatively few in number no matter where one went, so they couldn’t form any more powers. One was enough.
And behind each of these three powers was a cultivator at the Immortal Emperor Level.
An Immortal Emperor was an existence infinitely close to a God, while a True God existed only in legends.
At least, in the current Immortal Spirit Realm, there were no Gods whose exact whereabouts were known.
In addition, beneath these three major powers were various smaller sects under their jurisdiction.
For example, the Xuantian Sect, where Xie Ningyuan had been, was under the jurisdiction of the Beidie Palace.
And the Chixiao Sect and Hengtian Sect, which had joined forces to destroy the Xuantian Sect, were also under the jurisdiction of the Beidie Palace.
Although they were from the same greater faction, in reality, neither the Beidie Palace nor the South Immortal Palace would bother with the internal strife of the sects under their command, unless it involved someone they particularly cared about.
However, if someone from the South Immortal Palace or the Demon God Palace made a move against someone from the Beidie Palace, they would not sit idly by.
This was also why it was essential to join one of the major powers for protection.
Furthermore, the Ascension Platform where she had ascended was under the jurisdiction of the Qiyue Sect. The Qiyue Sect belonged to the South Immortal Palace and held a significant position within that power.
However, since this Jade Scroll was produced by the Qiyue Sect, it was hard to say whether the description of the sect was completely objective.
After all, the Qiyue Sect stationed people here year-round to receive ascenders, undoubtedly with the intention of recruiting talented individuals. It wasn’t impossible that they would exaggerate to attract people.
After roughly reading through the breakdown of the powers, Lu Sangjiu moved on to the description of cultivation levels for cultivators in the Immortal Spirit Realm.
To put it simply, cultivators below the Earth Immortal realm here were basically equivalent to cultivators below Foundation Establishment in the Spirit Void Realm.
They were all considered third-rate nobodies, not even worthy of a true cultivator’s notice.
After all, the Spiritual Energy here was rich. Aside from those too young to have begun cultivating, anyone who remained below the Earth Immortal realm was bound to have no talent. That was as far as they would ever go in this life.
These people were usually attached to some faction, doing the most menial labor, and generally had no status to speak of.
Reading this, Lu Sangjiu cast a rather sympathetic glance at Duoduo, who was still cultivating diligently beside her.
*Ahem*... ’So after all that hard work, it’s still at the very bottom?’
She wondered what Duoduo would think if it knew.
But this was the Spirit Beast she had brought with her, after all. Lu Sangjiu and Duoduo had been through life and death together several times; their bond was special.
Besides, it was her only companion now. ’I have to find a way to help it improve.’
Making a mental note of this, Lu Sangjiu continued reading the Jade Scroll.
Those below Earth Immortal had low status, but of course, Earth Immortals themselves weren’t much better off. They were basically equivalent to Foundation Establishment Cultivators in the Spirit Void Realm.
They were considered to have stepped through the threshold of cultivation, but they were still just the lowest rung, as common as dirt.
Above Earth Immortal were Heavenly Immortals and Golden Immortals. Only at the Daluo Golden Immortal realm did one begin to be considered an expert. The number of those at the Immortal King Level was already quite small, roughly equivalent to a Divinity Transformation Level expert from the Spirit Void Realm.
After getting a grasp of the power structure in the Immortal Spirit Realm, Lu Sangjiu felt a wave of melancholy.
’I worked so hard to go from a pitiful little Foundation Establishment Cultivator to a grand senior who was revered wherever I went. But then, in a single Ascension, I was knocked right back to square one. And this time, I’m not just recultivating, nor do I have any plot-knowing cheat. I have to rely purely on myself. How tragic.’
But even so, Lu Sangjiu knew this was no time to be disheartened. Xie Ningyuan was still waiting for her to save him; this was not the time to lose heart.
She quickly regained her spirits and continued to read.
She saw a map of the Immortal Spirit Realm that clearly delineated the territories of the three major powers and also marked the concentration of Spiritual Energy in various regions.
That’s right—even in the Immortal Spirit Realm, not every place was filled with rich Immortal Qi. The fringe areas only had Spiritual Energy. However, even in the most remote areas, the concentration of Spiritual Energy was definitely higher than in the Spirit Void Realm.
The distribution of Ascension Platforms was also varied. Lu Sangjiu had simply gotten lucky, randomly arriving at this particular one.
It just so happened to be in a relatively central area of the South Immortal Palace’s territory, which was why even this remote wilderness was filled with dense Immortal Qi.
But by the same token, places with dense Immortal Qi were also fraught with danger. After all, resources were always held by those with the greatest martial strength.
Therefore, the people active in the area where Lu Sangjiu was were all cultivators with relatively high cultivation. Those with low cultivation, unless they had the protection of a sect, would have long since been devoured.
Reading this, a cold sweat broke out on Lu Sangjiu’s forehead. Only now did she realize how incredibly lucky she had been to hide in a place like this for seven or eight days without encountering anyone!
’Could this also be the residual luck from the Spirit Void Realm working its magic? If so, I really ought to properly thank Ji Li!’
