The Side Character Who Wins by Doing Nothing

Chapter 391: Are You Jichen’s Friend?

  • Next Chapter

Lu Sangjiu had already used Thousand Faces of Life to infiltrate the Outer Sect of the Ten Thousand Buddha Sect. To avoid being discovered, however, she hid quietly in a deserted courtyard.

She only set out for the Inner Sect after receiving a message from Shen Yuzhao.

The Ten Thousand Buddha Sect was currently understaffed, with fewer guards on patrol. Combined with the concealing effect of Thousand Faces of Life, she proceeded unobstructed, following the map from Xie Ningyuan to the sect’s core area.

The Abbot’s residence was located behind the main hall, making it necessary to pass through the hall to reach it.

However, as Lu Sangjiu approached, she sensed the auras of two Divinity Transformation Cultivators inside.

She didn’t dare to move recklessly or spread her Divine Sense carelessly. She could only hide nearby and wait quietly.

But the people inside showed no sign of leaving. Frustrated, Lu Sangjiu had no choice but to contact Luo Linlang. "Senior Sister, now!"

After sending the message, Lu Sangjiu waited quietly for a moment before hearing someone run past in a panic. "This is bad! There’s a fire in the Outer Sect!"

For Cultivators, an ordinary fire was certainly not enough to cause panic. The problem was that this fire had been set by Luo Linlang.

Phoenix True Fire wasn’t so easy to extinguish. It would take at least several Nascent Soul Stage Cultivators working together.

If the sect didn’t have that many Nascent Soul Disciples, a Divinity Transformation Cultivator would have to go.

Of course, using Phoenix True Fire was already showing mercy. If it had been Shen Yuzhao’s unknown green fire, who knew how chaotic things would have become.

Lu Sangjiu waited another moment, and sure enough, there was a commotion in the main hall.

A Divinity Transformation Cultivator walked out and quickly flew toward the Outer Sect.

Lu Sangjiu: "..."

’Do I really have to lure them away one by one? It’s a fire! Can’t two Divinity Transformation cultivators go together?’

Left with no choice, she had to contact Li Qiancheng again. "Eldest Senior Brother, do it!"

And so, a vicious incident occurred in Bodhi City: a Nascent Soul Cultivator attacked the City Lord Mansion.

The Ten Thousand Buddha Sect was the type of sect that didn’t bother much with managing its territory. They were therefore quite lenient with the cities under their jurisdiction and didn’t care who controlled them.

The only requirement was that each city had to pay taxes regularly, and in return, the Ten Thousand Buddha Sect would protect them.

So in reality, the Bodhi City Lord’s cultivation wasn’t high, only at the Early-stage Nascent Soul.

The current Li Qiancheng could easily dominate him, throwing the entire City Lord Mansion into chaos all by himself.

And so, the remaining Divinity Transformation Cultivator in the main hall of the Ten Thousand Buddha Sect quickly emerged and hurried toward Bodhi City.

Now, apart from the Body Integration Realm Supreme Elder who was still in seclusion and that Transcendence Tribulation Stage ancestor, the Ten Thousand Buddha Sect had no more High-level cultivators.

As long as Lu Sangjiu was careful, it was possible to avoid alerting those two.

She quickly sent a message to Li Qiancheng telling him to retreat, then slipped toward the area behind the main hall.

With Xie Ningyuan’s map, she quickly found the Abbot’s small courtyard.

Just as Xie Ningyuan had said, the courtyard had a restrictive array. Before entering, she contacted Luo Linlang again. "Senior Sister, Word Spirit Technique!"

Luo Linlang had fled after setting the fire and was now hiding in a safe place, waiting for Lu Sangjiu’s message. Upon receiving it, she immediately cast a blessing on Lu Sangjiu with the Word Spirit Technique.

So, after receiving Luo Linlang’s confirmation, Lu Sangjiu immediately entered the Array.

The blessing from the Word Spirit Technique was incredible. Just as she entered, she triggered one of the Array’s variations—one that Xie Ningyuan had taught her. She had practiced it several times before. Now, moving from memory, she disabled the restrictive array with practiced ease and stepped into the courtyard.

Her first instinct was, of course, to search the room for him. Unfortunately, the Abbot was indeed not inside. Lu Sangjiu looked around. Some areas were already covered in dust, suggesting no one had been there for some time.

’It seems the Abbot really isn’t being held here.’

Lu Sangjiu searched the room meticulously but couldn’t find any hidden mechanisms. She had to go back out to the courtyard to search.

However, she was only halfway through searching the courtyard when she received a message from Shen Yuzhao. He had been acting as a lookout from the shadows, coordinating their overall movements.

The message he sent this time was concise. "Fire’s out. The Divinity Transformation cultivator is heading back."

’I underestimated them. They’re coming back too quickly.’

The courtyard’s Array had not been reactivated after she broke it. After all, she likely wouldn’t have time to break it again on her way out.

But this also meant that as soon as the Divinity Transformation Cultivator returned to the front hall and scanned this area with his Divine Sense, he would immediately notice something was wrong.

But there was still half a courtyard left to check, and Lu Sangjiu was unwilling to leave just like that.

She steeled her heart and decided to take a gamble.

Instead of leaving, she simply quickened her pace, wanting to search the last half of the courtyard as fast as possible.

’I was thinking I might have guessed wrong, that the entrance might not be here. Finishing the search quickly would at least rule out one possibility.’

But unexpectedly, as she felt along the last section of wall, Lu Sangjiu suddenly sensed a spatial fluctuation!

She froze for a moment, then tentatively gathered Spiritual Power in her hand and reached for the wall again.

This time, her hand passed right through the wall, extending into some unknown space.

’...I actually found it?’

She frowned. Now she was truly in a difficult position.

If she left today, she was afraid it would be difficult to find another chance to get in. Besides, she didn’t want to waste the opportunity that Xie Ningyuan and the others had fought so hard to create for her.

After a moment’s thought, Lu Sangjiu quickly sent a message to Gu Jue.

"Mr. Gu, if you don’t hear from me in fifteen minutes, make your move immediately."

After sending that message, she no longer hesitated. Pouring Spiritual Power throughout her body, she stepped through the entrance.

The wall merely contained an Array that linked to another space; there were no other barriers.

So, Lu Sangjiu entered with ease.

What greeted her eyes was a dimly lit stone chamber. She walked a short distance down a corridor, rounded a bend, and saw a door.

She walked forward without hesitation. Just as she was about to push the door open, she heard an aged voice. "There’s a mechanism on the door. Don’t touch it."

Lu Sangjiu’s hand froze. She could tell the voice came from inside the room.

The room had been specially treated, blocking her Divine Sense and preventing her from seeing inside. The interior was completely concealed from view.

After a quick, fruitless search for a way to see, Lu Sangjiu simply kept a certain distance from the door and asked tentatively, "Are you... the Abbot?"

The voice paused, seeming to find Lu Sangjiu’s voice unfamiliar and surprised that the visitor wasn’t who he had expected.

But he quickly spoke again. "It is I."

"Young friend... are you a friend of Jichen?"

Hearing this, Lu Sangjiu’s heart leaped with joy. She said hurriedly, "Yes! My name is Lu Sangjiu. I’m a friend of Xie Ningyuan. He sent me to rescue you!"
