The Shining Star Above The Heaven
Chapter 1299: Seeing the Other Side
In another place, one of the avatars tasked with the attack mission was in one of the cities located near the territory of Tarius' followers. The city was called Tarluk.
The avatar could see the bustling streets filled with cultivators from various origins across the second heaven. Cruisers kept arriving from outside the city and landing not far from it, bringing even more cultivators into the already crowded city.
The announcement of total war had turned this city into one of the main base camps because of its strategic location.
The territory of Tarius' followers could be seen from the city in the distance. The reddish atmosphere, one of the defining characteristics of their territory, was clearly visible to anyone's eyes.
That territory would become one of the primary targets once the attack started. Tarius' followers were hiding inside their territory, relying on the harsh environment shaped by their violent and ominous energy to hinder anyone who wanted to search for them.
The city had already been under attack by Tarius' followers for the two weeks, and after every assault, they quickly fled back to their territory, something those people would not have dared to do in the past.
Thanks to the avatar's attacks on several capital cities across the domains, they had gained confidence and started doing something daring like that.
The avatar sat on the second floor of one of the restaurants, quietly observing the situation. He had already been in this city for the past three days, searching for information about his target.
However, this time, the information he was searching for was not about someone he wanted to kill, but someone he wanted to meet. And that someone was from the side of Tarius' followers.
Why did he want to meet someone who was supposed to be his enemy?
That was because this was one part of his plan to further intensify the animosity between Tarius and Avergis. To execute that plan, he had to meet one of the divine cultivators from Tarius' side who was currently in this region.
According to the information he had gathered, the person known as the Northern Emperor was in this region together with a group of Tarius' followers.
The Northern Emperor was one of the two known divine cultivators on Tarius' side in the second heaven. She had actually descended together with four other cultivators of the same level in the past.
The avatar knew that they were the group that was supposed to face him in the first heaven, but he had only encountered three of them and killed all of them.
The sudden news of Avergis' follower killing Tarius' followers in the first heaven reached Tarius, causing the remaining two to stay in the second heaven instead, ultimately saving their lives.
They were tasked with helping Tarius' followers here fight against Avergis' followers in the second heaven.
However, Avergis had also sent his own Divine Realm cultivator followers to confront them. Being outnumbered, the Northern Emperor and the Southern Emperor chose not to face them directly. Instead, they adopted the classic strategy of guerrilla warfare, but in their own style.
The Northern Emperor and the Southern Emperor were operating in different locations, and the avatar chose to approach the Northern Emperor simply because she was the closest to his current position.
To be honest, he had already expected that, at some point, the temple grandmaster would have to do something drastic to turn the situation around regarding the continuous attacks.
However, he did not expect that time to come so soon, nor did he expect the grandmaster to actually declare total war.
That was even more than he had anticipated, as it meant that the relationship between Tarius and Avergis had already reached the point where they might even try to kill each other.
With the declaration of total war, Avergis had effectively decided to obliterate all of Tarius' followers in the second heaven, erasing every trace of his influence there. That was the same as delivering a hard slap to Tarius' face while also weakening his power as a god.
The avatar did not doubt that someone like Tarius would never allow himself to be trampled like that. He would undoubtedly retaliate on an even greater scale.
'The only way I can see him stopping his retaliation, or for there to be a ceasefire between them, is if they are stopped by a variable powerful enough to stop them. I don't know if such a variable exists. I hope there isn't one, so all my efforts here won't end up being for nothing,' the avatar thought.
He kept looking outside for a few more moments in silence. Now that the situation had already escalated to this point, he had to speed up his plan.
'Let's see if I can find that person. I'll have to find her before these people begin their attack.'
The avatar's body then disappeared.
Using a concealment technique based on Death laws, he flew out of the city toward the territory of Tarius' followers.
'From the information I gathered, she has remained here because the Divine Realm cultivators from Avergis' side have prevented her from moving to another region. This territory is basically surrounded on all sides, limiting the movements of Tarius' side.'
The avatar had already passed the city walls and continued approaching the reddish atmosphere in the distance.
'They can hold on for a long time with hit-and-run tactics, but with the declaration of total war, their fall is certain. There is no way they can withstand the assault of the entire second heaven.'
The avatar was already near the territory of Tarius' followers. He could see several groups of immortals observing the territory. They were the temple's observers, watching the area to make sure no one escaped from it.
'Now, how should I attract that woman so she comes to see me?'
Even though he had spent the past few days gathering information about the Northern Emperor from the resistance group in the city and hypnotizing some of the temple's members, he still had not discovered a definite place where he could meet her.
The Northern Emperor moved without leaving any trace, only occasionally revealing herself to kill anyone who dared to step inside their territory.
But even that was not guaranteed, as the Northern Emperor could simply decide not to show herself.
The avatar entered the territory without any problem, and he instantly felt just how destructive the devil energy was here. It was several times stronger than anything he had ever felt in the first heaven.
He was not surprised because those who lived in this place were cultivators far stronger than those in the Mortal Realm. If any mortal stepped into this land, he did not doubt that they would instantly go crazy within the first ten seconds.
Unless they possessed something powerful enough to withstand the dense devil energy, which could even affect immortal cultivators, they would have no way of entering this place.
The avatar easily withstood the energy as he continued flying deeper into the territory. His very existence was the bane of this kind of energy, after all, and he was already an Immortal Overlord cultivator. This level of energy was nowhere near enough to affect him.
The land was barren, devoid of any life, while powerful Death Laws permeated the entire area. After the avatar had flown quite deep into the territory, he abruptly stopped.
'Why do I have to think so hard? I'll simply make myself like a fire in the darkness, and the moths will come.'
He stopped using his concealment technique and, without any hesitation, unleashed his aura. This was the aura of one of Tarius' followers. His powerful aura burst forth and could be sensed from thousands of kilometers away.
After that, he retracted his aura and simply floated there, waiting.
It had not even been a minute before the avatar sensed someone approaching him. He turned to his right and saw a figure rapidly flying toward him.
In fact, at that very moment, he could also sense several others approaching.
The figure finally arrived. It was a man with short black hair, dressed in a black robe. His aura at Immortal Overlord stage was unmistakable.
He looked at the avatar with narrowed eyes, clearly suspicious and wary of his appearance.
"Your Excellency, if I may ask, who are you?" the man asked.
While he was still observing the area as a sentinel, he suddenly sensed a powerful burst of aura that he was certain belonged to someone from the higher heavens. The energy was almost identical to that of the Northern Emperor, making him think that this unknown person had also come from the higher heavens.
Although he could sense that the man was an Immortal Overlord cultivator, the purity of his energy unmistakably originated from the higher heavens.
At that moment, a few more figures finally arrived and looked at the avatar with the same suspicious expression.
"I came under our lord's orders to deliver something to the Northern Emperor. I heard she was in this place. Where is she?" the avatar said.
The others widened their eyes, and their suspicions were immediately confirmed.
Although they still had some questions for the avatar, they could not afford to delay a matter concerning their god. Even more so in their already grim situation, anything from their god could become the key to helping them survive this dangerous period.
"Please, this way, Your Excellency. Her Excellency is in a much deeper part of the territory. At this moment, she is inside one of our hideouts, recuperating," the first man who had arrived before the avatar said.
"Recuperating?" the avatar asked.
"Yes, Your Excellency. She was wounded during the battle against two Divine Realm cultivators from the temple, and she has spent most of her time recuperating in our hideout."
The avatar nodded. As he followed them toward the Northern Emperor's location, he also sent a message to his real body.
"I found our target. Get ready to bring him."
