Chapter 550: Chapter 550: Well-Prepared

Liang Xiaoyu saw her mother-in-law’s reaction and quickly asked, "Mom, aren’t you worried?"

Granny Cai rolled her eyes at this. "You can’t stop the rain from falling, and you can’t stop a man from cheating. How could I possibly stop him?"

"Besides, back then, Xueqin had just come of age. He hadn’t started working and wasn’t married yet. And public morals were much more conservative, so I put up with it. Now, do you think there’s any need for me to put up with it?"

"If it were just a matter of Chen Xiaoxiu not having money to get her son married or find him a job, and if there wasn’t much contact between the two of them, maybe I’d have been merciful and given them money to get through their hard times."

"But that’s clearly not the case now! They’ve rekindled their old flame and are shamelessly together again! Is there any reason for me to waste my breath trying to win him back? Xueqin, you’re going to get your father back here tomorrow. I’m divorcing him!"

Hearing this, Cai Xueqin grew anxious. "Mom, you’re at your age... what will you do if you get divorced? Aren’t you afraid of being the town gossip?"

Granny Cai shot her son a glare. "What about my age? Back then, divorce wasn’t common. For your sake, I endured it when your father cheated on me."

"Now he’s pulling this stunt again. If I don’t divorce him, am I supposed to just let him spend my money to support his mistress and their son, all while pretending I don’t see it? Wouldn’t that make me a complete and utter joke?"

Just then, Liang Xiaoyu reached out and pinched Cai Xueqin’s arm.

"Cai Xueqin, you heartless man! This family would have fallen apart long ago if it weren’t for Mom! And I’ll be honest with you—back then, if it weren’t for her, I never would have married you in the first place!"

"My parents only agreed to our marriage because they respected her character, and they were willing to overlook the bastardly things your father did! If you feel sorry for your dad now, then fine. I’ll take the kids and live with Mom. You can go live with your dad, his mistress, and their son."

Cai Wennan wasn’t asleep yet. Hearing the argument downstairs, she ran down and listened closely.

"Dad, my brother and I are sticking with Mom and Grandma! If you don’t listen to Grandma and Mom, and instead feel sorry for that unreliable grandpa of ours, then we’ll disown you too!"

Cai Xueqin’s head throbbed when he heard this. He quickly shooed Cai Wennan away. "Alright, that’s enough, go to bed! The adults are discussing things. This is none of your business."

Cai Wennan rolled her eyes. "I’m a college student and an adult. Why can’t I know about this?"

"Anyway, it’s Grandpa who wronged Grandma. That’s between them as a married couple! If they get along, they stay together. If they don’t, they get a divorce."

"But you’re Grandma’s biological son. She changed your diapers and cleaned up your messes to raise you, and she’s suffered so much for your sake. If you’re going to let her be wronged again, then I’ll make you suffer in the future and be an unfilial daughter to you!"

"And it won’t just be me. I’ll make sure Wenjun isn’t filial to you either! We’re young. You’ll be old one day. If you’re not filial to Grandma, we’ll just be following your example. You won’t be able to blame us for anything!"

Sweat beaded on Cai Xueqin’s forehead as a cold sweat trickled down. "Oh, my dear girl, I’m begging you, alright? The house is chaotic enough as it is. Don’t add to the mess! This is my own mother. Of course I care about her!"

Liang Xiaoyu snorted. "You have a funny way of showing you care about Mom."

Cai Xueqin glanced at his mother, then at his wife and daughter, and gave a sheepish smile. "All these years, it’s been Mom and Xiao Yu who have built this family fortune. If Mom and Dad get divorced, won’t Dad get to take half of it?"

Liang Xiaoyu was slightly taken aback by his words, then looked at her mother-in-law with an expression full of admiration.

"Mom, you thought of this a long time ago, didn’t you?"

Granny Cai nodded. "You might not know what kind of person he is, but don’t you think I do? A dog always goes back to its shit. I just threw that old pile of shit far away last time!"

"Now that pile of shit has come looking for him again, and since a dog can’t change its ways, of course he’s going to sniff his way back to it! That’s why when you and Xiao Rui were working so hard fishing at sea, I knew I could entrust this family to you. I trusted you with it, even more than I trusted Xueqin."

Cai Xueqin paused, a confused look on his face. "Mom, what does Xiao Yu mean by that? If you knew Dad was going to cause trouble, why didn’t you try to stop him?"

Granny Cai rolled her eyes. "Sometimes you can’t stop what’s meant to happen! I was only gone on my trip abroad for a short while, and your dad followed the stench of shit and ran off! What was I supposed to do?"

"Since I put Xiao Yu in charge of the household, all the major assets we’ve purchased since she started earning money from fishing with Xiao Rui—the houses we bought, the shops we opened—they’re all in Xiao Yu’s name."

"When your father and I divorce, we split marital assets. Have you ever heard of an old couple divorcing and splitting their daughter-in-law’s property? So he won’t be able to take a single cent of our family’s money."

Cai Xueqin’s jaw dropped when he heard this. "Really?"

Liang Xiaoyu nodded. "Of course, it’s true! Even the house we bought recently is in Wennan’s name."

Cai Xueqin let out a long sigh of relief. "Divorce him. We’ll do it tomorrow! At worst, we’ll have to give him half of the old house, but we’re still getting that divorce!"

Granny Cai raised an eyebrow and smiled smugly. "He wants a piece of my house? In his dreams. Have you forgotten that I already transferred this house into your name?"

Cai Xueqin slapped his thigh. "I remember now! That time Dad cheated before, he got on his knees and begged for forgiveness. You not only made him write a guarantee letter, but you also demanded he gift the house to me. Not long after, the house was put in my name."

He had been so angry these past few days that his mind had been a fog.

He’d actually forgotten something so important about his own family!

He had been worried that the family fortune, so painstakingly built, would be split in half by his father. Now that it couldn’t be taken, he had nothing to fear.

"Right! He swore up and down to me back then, but I didn’t believe a word of it! If I didn’t get something tangible out of it, how could I possibly have forgiven him? At the very least, I would have had him thrown in jail!"

"Tomorrow, I’m calling Chen Nanyang and having him send over someone who specializes in divorce cases. I want this divorce to be clean and clear-cut, and I want Old Man Cai out of my life for good!"

Liang Xiaoyu held her mother-in-law’s hand. "Mom, don’t be sad! It’s Old Man Cai who’s blind. He doesn’t know how good you are! We know, and so does that Dean Hans from Germany."

"If you remarry in the future, I’ll support it with both hands. You only live once, there’s no need to get tied up in knots. You should live happily, without having to accommodate this person or that person."

Cai Xueqin didn’t understand. His scalp tingled. ’Are all old people this trendy nowadays?’

"Xiao Yu, what do you mean by that? Someone was pursuing Mom when she was abroad?"

Liang Xiaoyu raised an eyebrow and replied smugly, "Of course! But our Mom is far more honorable than Old Man Cai. She rejected him outright."

"Not like Old Man Cai, who gets lured away the second someone beckons to him! Shameless and vile!"

Now that her father-in-law had done something like this, Liang Xiaoyu had no desire to show Old Man Cai any respect at all.
