Chapter 541: The Shocking Result
Chapter 541: Chapter 541: The Shocking Result
Mrs. Chen sighed. "My son is so brilliant. I don’t want him to go back. Here, he can become a world-renowned scientist. But what will happen if he goes back? Will he be forced into drudgery, only to be purged in the end?"
"The lessons we learned back in Hua Country... weren’t they painful enough? We’re doing so well abroad now. I really don’t want Wenxuan to waste his precious time making some pointless contribution."
Mr. Chen thought for a moment, then finally shook his head. "The key is, that’s what *we* think, but Wenxuan doesn’t want that. We didn’t raise him; he was raised in Hua Country. He received a different education and isn’t like our other two children. We can’t hold Wenxuan and Xiao Jing to the same standards."
Mrs. Chen’s eyes reddened as she thought of those difficult years. "I just think it’s such a waste. It’s not worth it."
"One man’s poison is another’s honey," Mr. Chen said in a low voice. "Give it up. Wenxuan called me tonight and invited me to his place tomorrow at noon. You should come with me. If the wedding can’t proceed as planned, the one who will be hurt the most is Wenxuan."
Mrs. Chen nodded. "Alright, I’ll go with you tomorrow. If those people hadn’t persecuted us back then, maybe I wouldn’t have had to be separated from Wenxuan. My son wouldn’t be so distant from me. When I think about it, I’m filled with hatred."
Mr. Chen comforted his wife. "Try to look on the bright side. The international and domestic situations were very complicated back then. Even here in Germany, it isn’t exactly a sanctuary. Times are changing. Hua Country is developing rapidly. Maybe there will be more opportunities for collaboration in the future."
"Okay. I’ll wait for you then." Mrs. Chen nodded and hung up the phone.
Aunt Liu came over with tea for Mrs. Chen. "Ma’am, I... did I cause trouble for you?"
Mrs. Chen glanced at Aunt Liu. "You’ve worked for me for twelve years, and you’ve always done a good job. But this time, you really went too far. *We* may not like things from Hua Country, but that doesn’t mean the bride’s side doesn’t."
"Aren’t bright reds and greens what Hua Country people like the most? Don’t go over there anymore. And you need to keep your daughter in line, too. After all, Wenxuan and Xiao Jing are about to get married, and I don’t want to hear any nasty rumors."
Since Chen Wenxuan’s feelings for Han Xiaoqing were so deep that they were impossible to break apart, Mrs. Chen decided to stop trying.
After all, Chen Wenxuan had already made things clear to her.
If she continued with these petty schemes, Chen Wenxuan would blame her for any conflict or unhappiness in his marriage.
Mrs. Chen didn’t want to become estranged from her son, so she decided not to stand in his way any longer.
Aunt Liu was resentful, but she didn’t want to lose this high-paying, easy job.
Besides, her daughter worked at the Chen family’s company and earned a good salary.
Some people saw her daughter coming and going from the Chen residence and assumed she was a relative. As a result, many high-quality suitors had started approaching her daughter.
Even without Chen Wenxuan, with the Chen family’s protection, her daughter might be able to marry an excellent man in the future.
"Yes, Ma’am," Aunt Liu replied, then excused herself and left.
The next day, Han Xiaoqing had a driver take Chen Yishui’s family and Cai Wennan to tour the city.
Meanwhile, she went with her sister, Liang Xiaoyu, and Granny Cai to the place where she studied and conducted her research.
Han Xiaoqing’s mentor, Professor Ai Wen, was waiting for them.
Han Xiaorui brought a gift for Professor Ai Wen: a Su-style embroidery tabletop ornament, featuring lifelike birds and trees.
Professor Ai Wen was delighted with the gift from Han Xiaorui.
"I often hear Ai Li speak of you. It’s a great honor to finally meet you today."
Han Xiaorui and Ye Feng shook Professor Ai Wen’s hand. "When my sister writes to me, she also frequently mentions your help and guidance."
"It is thanks to your open-mindedness and professional guidance that my sister has been able to make such great progress and achieve so much academically."
Professor Ai Wen didn’t hold back his praise for Han Xiaoqing. "Ai Li is an exceptionally diligent and outstanding young person. It is my honor to have such a student."
"She has provided many new lines of thought for my research. Her insights are excellent and very helpful. I am truly grateful to her."
After some pleasantries, Han Xiaorui got straight to the point. "My two daughters and Xiao Jun have also come to Germany. We’d like to ask you to help us assess them and advise us on what we should do to help them improve in the near future."
Professor Ai Wen nodded. "Ai Li has already told me. Let’s begin now."
Han Xiaorui nodded. "Should I call the children in, then?"
Professor Ai Wen shook his head. "No need. Just let them play over there. We don’t speak the same language, so I can’t communicate with them directly very well. It would only make them nervous."
"I can make an assessment by observing their expressions, their reaction times during conversation, and their physical coordination. Let’s watch these little ones play together!"
After hearing Han Xiaoqing’s translation, Han Xiaorui nodded. "That’s a great idea. We’ll be able to see the children in their most natural state."
And so, Professor Ai Wen observed them quietly from the side.
Pingping, An’an, Wenjun, Ningning, and Zhuangzhuang ran around, played hide-and-seek, and played freeze tag, all with perfect accuracy.
Professor Ai Wen’s eyes gleamed. He had previously seen the case files that Han Xiaoqing had brought him.
When they were younger, the conditions of Pingping, An’an, and Wenjun were considered very severe. For them to have recovered to this extent was nothing short of a miracle.
Deeply curious, Professor Ai Wen observed for another half an hour.
Pingping and An’an were tired from playing and thirsty. "Mama, I want some water!"
"Me too, Mama!"
Ningning was tired and tugged on her older sister’s arm. "Eldest Sis, can you give me a piggyback ride for a bit?"
Pingping doted on her younger sister, crouching down to give her a ride. "Wrap your arms around my shoulders and don’t let go!"
Seeing his eldest sister carrying their third sister, Zhuangzhuang asked his second sister to carry him.
But An’an didn’t have such a good temper. She simply dragged her younger brother forward. "You’re a big boy! Why should a little girl like me have to carry you?"
Han Xiaoqing continuously translated the children’s conversations for Professor Ai Wen.
After an hour of observation, and after the children had finished their water, Professor Ai Wen took out some test questions.
Han Xiaoqing read the questions aloud to the children for them to answer.
Pingping, An’an, and Wenjun were all able to complete them easily.
The material was much simpler than what they were studying back in Hua Country. Han Xiaoqing had barely finished reading a question before they would provide the correct or a very good answer.
After his serious, scientific observation and testing, Professor Ai Wen told them with great satisfaction, "Congratulations. In a way, these children are no longer autistic patients."
"You must have poured an immense amount of effort and hard work into their development to achieve such results."
Han Xiaoqing told Professor Ai Wen all about the efforts she, her sister, and their entire family had made.
Professor Ai Wen was deeply stunned!
