The Rule-Breaker of the Doomsday Game
Chapter 412: A Grand Assassination Drama Right Upon Arrival, What a Show
Oliver's mind was preoccupied with the day's political affairs. The Queen had issued a directive, demanding he expedite the production of a batch of elite armaments to be secretly supplied to the Demon Faction of Vlad III, Son of the Dragon.
Although the Secret Faction and the Demon Faction were different groups, the conflict between them wasn't actually significant; they simply had different ways of conducting themselves.
The interactions between the two sides were still quite close.
Just like this time, with the Son of the Dragon's attack on the Church, they made no overt moves but secretly provided a great deal of assistance.
For example, with things like food and medicine, the productivity of the Wallachia Kingdom, ruled by the Son of the Dragon, was simply no match for their Transylvania Kingdom.
He cursed the war-crazed lunatic who only knew how to take, and arrived at the tavern he always frequented. Without even looking at the server, he just said, "The usual."
Everyone here knew he only drank one kind of liquor.
As he was lost in thought, he suddenly noticed someone approaching him.
"Mr. Oliver, the Chief Governor of Brasov City? My apologies, I can't seem to remember your full name," a voice said.
He looked up and saw a person whose features looked a little strange no matter how you looked at them. They had an overly familiar air, which disgusted him.
Many merchants in the Blood Race would play these kinds of petty tricks, hoping their businesses could get some preferential tax treatment in Brasov City.
"Don't worry, I'm not one of those merchants, and I'm not looking to get anything from Mr. Governor," Qi Suian said, having seen through Oliver's thoughts.
But Oliver had seen it all. He'd witnessed plenty of people playing hard to get.
If the other party thought such a tactic could pique his curiosity or rebellious streak, they were sorely mistaken.
"Fine. I'll give you one minute to explain what you want," Oliver said, his expression unchanging, still maintaining that rigid demeanor.
Although he didn't like it, he would still listen. If the person could actually impress him within that minute, he was willing to talk further.
This was, in fact, one of the reasons he came to taverns.
"It's nothing much, I just have a few things to ask Governor Oliver," Qi Suian said bluntly. "But this place might not be peaceful. We should find somewhere else."
"I'm sorry, but I'm not interested," Oliver refused him flatly.
He just felt that this person before him was being deliberately mysterious.
He had given an opportunity, but he wouldn't let the other party do whatever they pleased with it.
Since the other party didn't cherish it, he wouldn't bother with them any longer.
"I believe my drink is about to arrive, and I require some space to drink alone." Although annoyed by Qi Suian's words, his way of shooing him away wasn't overly blunt.
The meaning was clear: leave now, and we can both save face.
He hadn't even finished speaking when the 'Female Vampire' who had previously served Qi Suian walked over and placed a drink before Oliver.
Normally, any proper member of the Blood Race would leave after hearing that. After all, the man had offered him a way to save face; if he didn't take it, he would be the one to lose face next.
Face was very important among the Blood Race, especially for the merchants.
They relied on their reputation, and reputation and face were, to a certain extent, related.
However, Qi Suian didn't leave. He simply sat down opposite Oliver.
Seeing this, Oliver ignored Qi Suian, took the drink, and was about to take a sip when he suddenly stopped.
"I asked for an Epic of Time. What is this you've served me?" Oliver looked at the drink, and his anger flared.
"My apologies, Lord Oliver, the Epic of Time…" The 'Female Vampire' suddenly drew the Secret Silver Dagger hidden at her waist and thrust it toward Oliver's heart. "Is all gone!"
The whole sequence happened incredibly fast. Oliver was caught completely off guard.
That's right. A dignified Blood Prince, Chief Governor Oliver, a third-generation member of the Blood Race with the same lineage as the Son of the Dragon—and his physical conditioning and reaction speed were no different from a normal person's.
Most of the Blood Race were like this. Presumably, only special members like the Son of the Dragon or the Blood Bath Queen possessed a more powerful physique.
Otherwise, they only possessed special talents like immortality and dark powers.
When not using their dark powers, they were truly no different from ordinary people.
If he were to be run through by that woman's Secret Silver Dagger, his death would be certain.
However, in the instant before the Secret Silver Dagger could pierce his chest, a sharp, twisting pain suddenly erupted from his abdomen, accompanied by an explosion of ferocious power.
His entire body, chair and all, was sent flying backward, narrowly avoiding the dagger strike.
"I told you, Governor Oliver, I have something important to discuss with you." Qi Suian retracted his foot.
Oliver was still useful to him, so naturally, he couldn't be allowed to die.
The whole thing happened so fast that Oliver couldn't even get up.
Mainly because Qi Suian's kick had been truly powerful.
But since Oliver was of the Blood Race, as long as he wasn't struck by something that countered them, his life force was extremely tenacious.
The 'Female Vampire' was stunned for a moment, then snapped back to her senses. Without hesitation, she retracted the Secret Silver Dagger and shot backward in retreat.
"Assassination failed!" she roared.
In the next moment, all the servers dropped their disguises.
It seemed to have been prepared in advance; the entire tavern was fitted with hidden shower devices. They looked incredibly crude at first glance, but they were effective.
The shower devices began spraying Holy Water.
Any member of the Blood Race present who was touched by the Holy Water found their point of contact corroding into a pitted mess as a large amount of black smoke billowed out.
"The Holy Water is impure and has been diluted." Qi Suian stood in the Holy Water without any reaction, stunning the group that had come to assassinate Oliver.
"If it were pure Holy Water, all these members of the Blood Race would die. A pity."
"But I doubt you could get your hands on it anyway. After all, Holy Water comes from the Church, and in the Transylvania Kingdom, the Church is a heretical cult, making Holy Water contraband."
"To be able to obtain this amount is already quite impressive."
Various items targeting the Blood Race were under strict control in the Transylvania Kingdom and were not allowed into the country at all.
Of course, due to the Secret Faction's way of doing things, although it was forbidden, that didn't mean it was unobtainable—just that it couldn't be acquired in large quantities.
"It's you pests again." Oliver endured the corrosion from the diluted Holy Water striking his body, which was now covered in pitted, bloody holes with black mist drifting from them.
His gaze fell upon the group, his expression utterly grim.
'I'm rather impressed with myself for being able to read any emotion on that face.'
"Retreat." It seemed they had a pre-arranged plan, as they began to flee at once.
Oliver ignored Qi Suian and immediately tried to give chase.
But he was promptly held down by Qi Suian.
"I told you, we need some time to talk," Qi Suian said, starting to drag Oliver away.
Oliver opened his mouth to curse but found himself being dragged away without any strength to resist.
As for resisting with his dark powers? Don't forget, the entire tavern was filled with diluted Holy Water.
With his dark powers as a Blood Prince and a third-generation member of the Blood Race, he could indeed fight back, since it wasn't pure Holy Water.
However, his dark powers would be severely affected, making it impossible to unleash their full potential.
"Who the hell are you?" Oliver asked after being dragged out of the tavern by Qi Suian. The pitted wounds on his body began to heal.
The diluted Holy Water couldn't cause permanent damage; at most, it could only suppress his regenerative abilities, making him heal more slowly.
As for why they didn't just put the Holy Water directly into the drink?
In the eyes of the Blood Race, that would be like dropping a pound of arsenic into a pot of sugar water.
They wouldn't even have to drink it; other members of the Blood Race would spot the problem the moment it was served.
So they only used the Holy Water as cover for their retreat, not as a weapon for a one-hit kill.
"Me? Just an unremarkable passerby who needs a member of the Blood Race with high status, position, and lineage to get some information."
"I happened to be passing through Brasov City, and Mr. Governor seemed very suitable, so I chose you," Qi Suian said while hauling Oliver off, casually flinging out a spray of silver needles.
In his hands, the silver needles were as deadly as the Rainstorm Pear Blossom Needle. The members of the Blood Race who tried to rescue Oliver died swift and painless deaths.
Seeing this, Oliver was thoroughly frightened.
'Is this something a human can do?'
If the man were a Demon Hunter or an Ascetic from the Church, aided by Divine Techniques and special weapons, it would certainly be possible.
But Qi Suian was different. He had done it all on his own.
"After this shot, you'll become a Lin Daiyu, unable to lift a finger," Qi Suian said, taking out a syringe.
Inside was Holy Water diluted a thousand times. After injection, it could only be countered with dark powers, which would thus restrict Oliver's Extraordinary abilities.
This was a case of 'every poison has its antidote.'
Otherwise, the man's power, which was like a rule or a concept, was a real headache for Qi Suian.
Their strength was average, but their effects were formidable.
Once the needle went in, Oliver felt as if fire was scorching every part of his body. Weakness and powerlessness began to spread.
In terms of both quantity and quality, it was clearly inferior to what was in the tavern, but because it was injected directly into his body, the effect was far superior.
This was something Qi Suian had figured out through trial and error. On his way to Brasov City, he had used over a dozen members of the Blood Race to determine the optimal dilution ratio.
If the Holy Water wasn't diluted enough, the Blood Race member would die either instantly or slowly.
But if it was diluted too much, the effect would be drastically reduced.
Therefore, a suitable dilution ratio was extremely important.
Fortunately, Qi Suian's luck was good, so he managed to figure it out after using just over a dozen members of the Blood Race.
And now it was being put to perfect use on Oliver.
"Alright, let's get going. Say goodbye to your city," Qi Suian said. He then hoisted Oliver onto his shoulder and shot straight into the sky.
As for the other members of the Blood Race? After Qi Suian had killed a circle of them, they were all terrified. How could they possibly dare to give chase?
They were left standing there, staring at each other blankly, watching as Qi Suian carried Oliver away.
Only after the two had vanished from sight did chaos erupt, and the news began to spread.
The Governor of Brasov had been captured. This was an absolutely major event.
Even the Queen would be enraged by this.
