The Rogue Villager Chen Erbao

Chapter 423: Then What Value Do You Have?

  • Next Chapter

Xiao Guang didn’t keep Chen Erbao waiting and called soon after.

“Mr. Chen, I’ve found a lead. The eldest young master of the Huang Group, Huang Baiwen, was looking for someone named Xia Qingxue yesterday. But the search was called off last night. I’m guessing he found her.”

Chen Erbao froze.

‘What a fucking coincidence!’

‘So it really was Huang Baiwen!’

‘That bastard was destined to be my enemy. No matter where I go, we always end up locking horns.’

‘If that’s the case, I might have to change my approach for dealing with Huang Baiwen.’

‘The eldest young master of the Huang Family is working with the Celestial God Sect… The Security Bureau should be very interested in that.’

A million thoughts raced through Chen Erbao’s mind.

“Thanks for your help, President Xiao. It would be even better if you could find out where Xia Qingxue is now.”

“I will do my best…”

After hanging up, Chen Erbao let out a deep breath. He sat in his chair and thought for a moment before picking up his phone and dialing an unfamiliar number.

“Hello?”

A young man’s calm, even voice came from the other end.

“Third Young Master Huang?”

“Who are you?”

Chen Erbao’s lips curled into a faint smile.

“Third Young Master, I have a business proposal I’d like to discuss with you.”

“Get to the point.”

“The Celestial God Sect recently arrived in Binhai, and I have a score to settle with them. The Huang Family is all-powerful here, so I was hoping the Third Young Master could help me track down the sect’s movements. Once this is done, I will reward you generously.”

“BEEP. BEEP. BEEP…”

The line went dead.

Chen Erbao put down his phone with a relaxed expression, not surprised by Huang Sanlang’s reaction.

He hadn’t expected to win Huang Sanlang over with a single call. It was merely an opening gambit; he would find another chance to approach Huang Sanlang later.

For now, he just needed to wait for news from Medicine King Hall and the Security Bureau.

As for Xia Qingxue’s safety, Chen Erbao wasn’t worried.

Even if the Celestial God Sect sent a veteran Grandmaster, Xia Qingxue was a Cultivator, after all. She might not be able to defeat him, but she wouldn’t fall so easily.

Song Yao had gone back to her room to sleep. She was exhausted after the long, tumultuous night, mostly from worrying about her senior sister’s safety.

Chen Erbao sent another message to Xiao Guang, asking for detailed files on Huang Baiwen and Huang Sanlang. Afterward, he leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes to rest.

Just as he closed his eyes, Chen Erbao sensed an unusual fluctuation.

He slowly opened his eyes and sneered.

“I was just worrying about the lack of leads, and here you are, delivering yourselves to my doorstep.”

Three figures abruptly appeared on the courtyard wall, then landed lightly on the ground, staring coldly at Chen Erbao.

“People from the Huang Family?”

Chen Erbao remained seated, not even shifting in his chair.

These three weren’t even Grandmasters. They weren’t worthy of him getting up.

The three did not answer. They exchanged a look and charged at Chen Erbao.

Before they even reached him, a wave of killing intent washed over him.

Amidst their flashing palms, Chen Erbao clearly saw the blinding glint of white light.

“Hmph!”

With that single cold snort, a tremor went through the hearts of all three men. An instant later, their eyes filled with utter disbelief.

Chen Erbao, who was just sitting in the chair, had now vanished into thin air!

The three of them swallowed hard. Just as they were about to speak, a chilling voice came from behind them.

“Are you looking for me?”

“SWISH!”

One of them reacted with incredible speed. The instant he heard Chen Erbao’s voice, he swung an arm back, a pristine white blade flashing coldly as it emerged from between his fingers.

“THUD!”

Before the blade could connect, a numbing sensation struck the back of all three of their necks, and they collapsed to the ground with a THUD.

“What happened…”

Startled awake by the noise, Song Yao ran out with a tense expression. Seeing the three unconscious men on the ground, she seemed unable to process what had happened.

Chen Erbao expertly tossed the three men into a corner, then dusted off his hands and said casually:

“They were probably looking for you.”

“Oh… Do they have my senior sister?”

“What are you thinking? You think a few useless thugs like these could capture your senior sister?”

Chen Erbao found some rope in a corner of the courtyard and tied the three men together, then instructed Song Yao:

“Go get a basin of water.”

“Oh.”

Song Yao obediently did as she was told.

Chen Erbao took the basin of water and poured it over the heads of the three men.

Although the weather in Binhai had been warming up lately, a dousing of ice-cold water in the early morning was still enough to jolt the three men awake.

After waking up, the three finally discovered that they had been tied up tightly.

And standing before them was the same strange, ghost-like man.

“Did Huang Baiwen send you?”

None of the three spoke.

Chen Erbao sneered and brought his foot down hard on the shin of the man closest to him.

“CRACK!”

A crisp sound of bone cracking rang out, and the man immediately let out a blood-curdling scream.

With another kick, Chen Erbao knocked out all the man’s teeth. The force was so immense it caved his face in. Dark red blood trickled down his cheeks, his features twisted beyond recognition. It was clear he wouldn’t survive.

He looked at the second man and smiled faintly.

“And how tough are you?”

The two conscious men were already trembling in fear.

They’d seen ruthless people, but never someone this ruthless!

To take a life so casually, and even smile while doing it.

They were just hired muscle, not die-hard fanatics!

“I’ll talk… The eldest young master sent us.”

Chen Erbao nodded with satisfaction. ‘That’s what I thought,’ he mused. ‘There aren’t that many people willing to die for their cause. How much could they possibly be getting paid a month? Is it really worth their lives?’

“Where is Xia Qingxue?”

Chen Erbao continued to ask.

The two looked bewildered.

“The woman Huang Baiwen was looking for,” Chen Erbao reminded them.

Both men shook their heads.

“I don’t know… The young master didn’t say…”

“Then what use are you?”

Chen Erbao snorted. With two more kicks, he sent them to see King Yama.

Three men were dead in an instant. Chen Erbao felt nothing, but Song Yao was shaken with lingering fear.

As a young woman who had grown up in an ivory tower, the past few years on the run with Xia Qingxue had been difficult, but when had she ever witnessed such a brutal scene…?

“Go on back to bed. Your senior sister should be here soon. The people from the Celestial God Sect might be stronger, but capturing her is easier said than done.”

“Mm…”

Song Yao returned to her room in a daze, probably still wondering why Chen Erbao had been so ruthless.

After dealing with the three men, Chen Erbao began to think about his next move.

After he rendezvoused with Xia Qingxue, the first thing he needed to do was help her and Song Yao change their appearances. Otherwise, Huang Baiwen would just track them down again.

Then, it would be time for him to go on the offensive.

The specific plan would have to wait for Xiao Guang’s information.

The morning passed in the blink of an eye. Chen Erbao was still waiting for the intel from Xiao Guang when Xia Qingxue returned.

Though she looked a bit disheveled, her breathing was steady. The moment her cool, aloof eyes fell upon Chen Erbao, her face bloomed into a radiant smile.
