The Rogue Villager Chen Erbao
Chapter 410: Changes in Binhai
Just as Chen Erbao was savoring a tender moment, two unexpected visitors arrived at the Huang Group headquarters in downtown Binhai City.
Young Master Huang Baiwen of the Huang Family stood at the entrance of the skyscraper, smiling as he watched two figures in black robes step out of a car.
“Welcome, on behalf of the Huang Family. Please, come in!”
The two were dressed very strangely. Although the weather had recently cooled, Binhai was a coastal city with a mild climate. Most pedestrians were wearing light jackets, but these two were in long, black robes that even covered their heads, as if they were actors in a movie.
The man in the lead glanced at the skyscraper before them. His expression remained unchanged, but a sharp glint flashed in his eyes.
“The Huang Family is as wealthy and powerful as they say. Young Master Huang, thank you for receiving us.”
“You’re too kind, Master Lin. This isn’t the place to talk. Please, this way.”
The three entered the building and took a private elevator, quickly arriving at a reception room on the top floor.
From one side of the reception room, by the vast floor-to-ceiling windows, one could see the scenery along the distant Huangpu River. A dense collection of buildings was scattered all around, seeming to stand guard around this skyscraper.
“Master Lin, please sit.”
Huang Baiwen wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, his hair combed immaculately. His expression was calm, but his eyes glinted with confidence.
The black-robed man removed his hood, revealing an aged face.
He looked to be in his fifties, but his gaze was exceptionally sharp.
After preparing the tea, Huang Baiwen leaned back casually on the sofa, crossing his left leg over his right.
“Master Lin, since you came in person, why not state your terms?”
Lin Zheng sized up Huang Baiwen, a smile spreading across his wrinkled face.
“Young Master Huang, I have no problem helping you with the tournament in international waters. However, I need you to find someone for me in Binhai City.”
Huang Baiwen’s expression didn’t change.
“A trivial matter. As long as they’re in Binhai, I can dig them up within two days.”
Lin Zheng took a photo from his pocket and handed it to Huang Baiwen.
“I want to eliminate this person myself. I hope you will assist me, Young Master Huang.”
Huang Baiwen glanced down and saw that the photo was of a woman. She was strikingly beautiful; even in a photograph, he could sense her cool, aloof aura.
As the young master of the Huang Family, he had seen every kind of woman imaginable. If he wanted even the most popular actresses, all he had to do was say the word and someone would deliver them to his bed. Yet despite having been with countless women, he found himself momentarily captivated by this photograph.
“Stunning!”
Huang Baiwen breathed in admiration, a fervent glint in his eyes.
Reading his expression, Lin Zheng said in a deep voice:
“If you like her, Young Master Huang, I can deliver her to you when this is all over.”
“What’s her background?”
Huang Baiwen did not agree right away, but asked cautiously.
Lin Zheng smiled.
“The sole survivor of an annihilated Ancient Martial Sect. She has something I want.”
“A Grandmaster?”
“No.”
Huang Baiwen had a good idea of the situation now. He tapped his fingers lightly on the table and nodded.
“I will send you the information tomorrow, Master Lin. I trust you will keep your promise.”
With the deal struck, Lin Zheng exchanged a few more pleasantries before taking his leave.
After the two departed, a side door in the reception room suddenly opened, and an old man with a goatee emerged.
Huang Baiwen handed him the photo and ordered:
“Have someone look into the woman in the photo.”
The man with the goatee glanced down and was equally stunned by the woman’s beauty. However, he quickly composed himself and said with some hesitation:
“Young Master, the Security Bureau has been cracking down on the Celestial God Sect recently. Cooperating with them at a time like this…”
The Huang Family wasn’t afraid of the Security Bureau, but the bureau was, after all, an official government organization. As the saying goes, “the people don’t fight the officials.” The old man felt this was improper.
Huang Baiwen lowered his gaze, rubbing the ring on his thumb as he said calmly:
“Our business is in international waters. The Security Bureau won’t find out. And even if they do, it’s not within the country’s borders. They won’t interfere.”
“Yes.”
Seeing that Huang Baiwen had already made up his mind, the old man said no more and walked out with the photo.
Soon, only Huang Baiwen was left in the room.
He stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the clouds on the distant horizon, lost in thought.
…
Chen Erbao held Zhang Yiyi in his arms as they leaned against the sofa, whispering to each other.
Zhang Yiyi’s face was flushed, her eyes filled with love as she snuggled in Chen Erbao’s arms.
“Er Bao, is the expert you invited very powerful?”
Zhang Yiyi asked curiously.
“He’s decent. Used to be an assassin overseas, but he had the bad luck of coming after me. He was so overwhelmed by my heroic prowess that he surrendered…”
Chen Erbao bragged nonchalantly.
Zhang Yiyi rolled her eyes at him and chuckled.
“You’re bragging again!”
Chen Erbao’s eyes widened.
“You still don’t believe me? What? Want me to show you a thing or two right now?”
As he spoke, he began to tickle her under her arms.
Zhang Yiyi giggled.
“No, stop… I believe you! I believe you!”
Once Chen Erbao stopped, she cupped his face in her hands.
“Er Bao, you’re back for a while this time, right? You haven’t spent any time with me in so long!”
Chen Erbao was silent for a moment, not saying a word.
Zhang Yiyi faltered, disappointment clouding her eyes.
“You have to leave again?”
“Yeah. Something urgent came up in Binhai. I might be there for a while.”
Chen Erbao sighed. ‘I really feel like I’m being pulled in too many directions.’
“Hmph!”
Zhang Yiyi seemed angry. She turned her head away, ignoring him.
Chen Erbao wrapped his arms around her waist, chuckling as he tried to console her.
“But I’m here to spend time with you today, aren’t I?”
Although Zhang Yiyi was still unhappy, she knew Chen Erbao was busy. She didn’t throw another fit and instead decided to cherish the time they had today.
“Take me shopping!”
“Alright, alright. Anywhere you want to go today is fine by me!”
Chen Erbao agreed without hesitation, but he quickly remembered Lin Zhiqing was also at Hongyuan. ‘We won’t run into her on the street, will we…?’
While Zhang Yiyi went to the bathroom to fix her makeup, Chen Erbao picked up his phone and sent Bai Xiaoqing a message.
“Is Zhiqing at the factory?”
Bai Xiaoqing quickly replied:
“She is. What’s up?”
“Oh, nothing. I’m out shopping with Yiyi today. It’s good she’s at the factory so we won’t bump into each other at the mall.”
“…”
On the other end, Bai Xiaoqing was grinding her teeth in frustration. ‘What a scumbag!’ she cursed inwardly.
‘Chen Erbao, however, felt no guilt. In fact, he was pleased to have a double agent like Bai Xiaoqing.’
Zhang Yiyi quickly finished her makeup. Face beaming, she grabbed Chen Erbao’s hand and started pulling him outside.
“Er Bao, should we ask Sister Xiaoqing to come…”
Zhang Yiyi was about to invite Bai Xiaoqing, but Bai Xiaoqing quickly messaged back, saying she had to work and couldn’t make it.
Zhang Yiyi also knew that Bai Xiaoqing had been on a business trip out of town for several days a while ago and should be very busy now, so she didn’t bother her anymore.
So the two of them happily headed towards a nearby shopping mall.
