The Rise of the Iron Wall!
Chapter 738: We Finally Have Good News!
"Wait, what?! Is this serious? Not a fucking prank?!" Higo’s voice shrieked high, catching both Kumiko and Sakura off guard. Those two girls looked curiously, especially since they could detect a hint of excitement in his voice. "So, three days after this? I need to do the swab test first? Okay, back at the club’s medical facility, right? I’ll be there!"
Hearing the conversation here, those two girls had their eyes lit up instantly. Even if they still didn’t know the real topic, at least from this tidbit of information, they could guess what Higo was talking about.
Right after the boy closed the call, Kumiko asked immediately, "Is that from the team? Any update for the league?"
Higo’s face was so bright right now as he nodded enthusiastically. "Yup! The league has already given a green light for the team to come back to the training ground again! Waldoch-sensei even said that significant progress has been made by everyone to continue the league, and we just need to wait until the decision is made!"
"Oh, that’s wonderful!" Kumiko squealed, hugging the boy with the same enthusiasm. "I am so glad that you can finally start going out!"
Even though a hint of envy could be heard in her tone since she also wanted to have that right, Kumiko was genuinely happy for her boyfriend here. She knew how stressed the boy was over the last couple of weeks, always being so close to exploding. Now, he was finally able to release his stress properly, which would also improve the mood in this house.
"While I will not hug you here, I am also happy for the news." Sakura offered a little smile without even lifting her body from the couch. "Still, be careful with everything outside. Make sure you are safe, okay? The pandemic is still getting worse right now, so don’t do anything reckless."
The tone she used in this reminder was enough to make him gulp, as if Higo had just been scolded by his mother.
"Y—Yes, Ma’am!" The boy saluted like a good soldier.
Indeed, even though the league was about to be restarted again, that didn’t mean the pandemic was close to its end. No, if anything, some researchers even said that they were not close to its peak, as the number would only rise in the next couple of months.
The football here could be continued because it involved a lot of money, and some of the higher-ups in the league also knew some people in the government to negotiate this matter. If not, there was no way they would be allowed to touch grass soon enough.
It wasn’t just the Bundesliga that got a green light like this. Almost all the major leagues in Europe also got good news from their government. Even though the process wasn’t easy, as every single person in the club had to be checked regularly to make sure that the virus wouldn’t spread to them, at least they could finally see hope in this dark moment.
"Yes, Mom! Aya-nee! We are going to start training again!" Higo nodded enthusiastically as he was on a call with his mother and sister.
"Well, it is good that you can finally get out of your flat. Don’t forget to get a new haircut, okay? You look like you haven’t taken a bath for a month with that long hair, you know?" Ayaka’s voice was full of teasing.
Higo just rubbed the back of his hair sheepishly, finding that, yeah, his hair was so long that the bangs started to cover his eyes. Not that he could be blamed, as no barber would be allowed to open in this situation.
His mother, meanwhile, was also relieved. However, she still had some worries here, as the woman couldn’t help but ask, "Is it safe, though? I mean, I also follow the news on a German platform, and people said that the situation right now is the worst in the last two months, right?"
The boy just smiled wryly, sometimes feeling like having a mother who was so up to date with the current news like this could be troublesome. Still, he wasn’t afraid to explain things here, not even hiding anything.
"It will carry some risks, of course." Higo nodded, not even denying this part. "However, the requirements here will be strict. We have to get a swab test every three days, and we will also only be in contact with the players and coaching staff, not any random people outside. The moment someone gets infected with the virus, everything also has to be cancelled again, so the team will use everything in their power to prevent something bad from happening. Don’t worry, Mom, they don’t want to lose money, so they will not play around when it comes to this." He smiled playfully.
Indeed, if a cancellation happened again because someone got infected in the middle of the season, investors would start losing trust in the league, and that was definitely the worst-case scenario for everyone else.
It was better to be strict with the health requirements and play it safe rather than taking a risk to cut some losses just to find them suffer more in the future.
"I don’t really know how the league there will handle the safety matter, but don’t just rely on them, okay?" Minami asked, not wanting her son to lower his guard at all. "Don’t make any unnecessary contact even with your teammates. You are a goalkeeper, right? Your exposure to everyone else should be quite limited, so don’t initiate it. Always remember that the pandemic is still going on outside there, so always be cautious with everything!"
"Yes, Mom, I know." Higo nodded quietly, accepting all the wisdom that his mother tried to implant in his head.
After reassuring his mother for quite a while, Higo finally let out a deep breath, feeling slightly relieved. Not only that, but excitement also started bubbling inside as somehow, he couldn’t wait for three days to pass.
’Man, I cannot believe I would say this, but I cannot wait to touch grass again!’
