The Rise of the Iron Wall!
Chapter 736: Life in Coronavirus Era (II)
Honestly, this training or working-from-home program started to drive Higo crazy. It had only been three days since everything started, and yet, he was getting restless as time went by. Even Sakura and Kumiko couldn’t help but feel pity for him right now.
"Ryukkun, how about you call your medical team once again for permission to get out? Take a deep breath, I mean?" His girlfriend asked.
"It doesn’t work; I tried it last night." Higo sighed in frustration, his body slumped on the couch. "They said that the situation is getting dangerous right now, and the police have started to patrol outside, forcing anyone else who strolls around to get back to their own residence."
The two girls just looked at each other helplessly, not knowing how to help him in this situation. This was indeed new territory for everyone else, but at least the girls still had some work to do since their schoolwork could be finished from anywhere, including his flat.
As for Higo, his life was always outside, where he had to sweat and smell the dirt of the pitch to make sure he was alive. That was why staying at home all the time like this would really drive him batty.
Honestly, when he thought carefully, Higo found that this situation was ironically funny. If this happened two years ago, when he was still the same antisocial boy who always called himself the ’perfect NPC’, the thought of having to stay at home when the world looked like everything was about to end would make him ecstatic. Now, though...
’This shows that I grew up nicely, right?’ He laughed bitterly at the memory of his past self.
As time passed by, Higo’s mood also started to get worse. Well, how could it not be, since all he did besides doing a little physical training to maintain his state was just playing with his social media, and all it did was give him more anxiety.
There, he read all the horrible news, like how the hospital always got full or the update on how many people had died so far, adding more negativity in his mind. Hell, the boy himself still didn’t understand anything about coronavirus, but the mere thought of its name was enough to give a shiver down his back.
However, what was worse here wasn’t just the virus itself, but the uncertainty behind it. No one really knew what kind of virus this was, how long it would take to develop the vaccines, and how long this situation would last until everything went normal again.
Or... If it would ever be normal again, Higo guessed.
Still, some parts of his question were answered on the evening news on national television, and the boy didn’t know whether he liked it or not.
"Good evening. We bring an important announcement from the government regarding the ongoing coronavirus situation. Starting from March 2020, all outdoor activities will be temporarily banned. This means that people must stay at home and avoid going outside unless necessary. The decision has been made to protect everyone’s health and prevent the spread of the virus. We ask all citizens to follow this rule carefully and stay safe during these difficult times. Thank you."
Then, the news was followed by one that came from the group chat, where Frohling finally dropped the bomb out of nowhere.
"Bundesliga will be stopped for the time being, at least until we find a solution for this situation. The other leagues also do the same. There is no precedent for this situation, so we don’t know how long it will take. Just practice on your own first; I will keep my eyes on your daily progress."
BOOM!
Higo read the announcement so many times in his head, still in disbelief over everything. Then, as his brain got quite messy, he couldn’t help but chuckle here, and it got louder than ever, startling both girls who were still in their own room.
"Fucking hell... Cancelled!" He laughed like a lunatic, starting to lose himself in madness. "Who the fuck is praying for the league to get cancelled because of our terrible performance?! Whoever it is, take some responsibility, you fucker!"
"Ryukkun, stop it!" Kumiko hugged him from behind and quickly held his hand, especially after realizing that the boy was about to slam it on the ground. "Sakura-chan, help me!" She shouted while struggling to keep up with Higo here, for the first time finding that the tiny boy who was her childhood friend had already become a strong man that she couldn’t take on at all.
"Come on, Higo! Keep calm first! Can you tell me what is going on? We can talk about it!" Sakura also helped here, trying to use a little chat to distract Higo.
Fortunately, this only lasted for a second before Higo finally regained his consciousness, glancing around while also realizing what he had just done here. "Sorry, my mind just went funny for a moment..." He mumbled shamefully before slowly putting his hand down and letting his body fall onto the couch immediately.
"No, it’s okay... I know this period has been quite stressful for you... I am so sorry you have to face this..." Kumiko mumbled while still having her head on his shoulder, rubbing the boy’s back gently. "Come on, can you tell me what is going on?" It was clear that they hadn’t seen the news yet.
Having nothing to do, Higo just handed his phone, and after listening to what the government said and the coach’s announcement in the group chat, they couldn’t help but have a solemn expression, finding it to be far more troublesome than they initially thought.
Higo himself just sighed weakly, inwardly thinking, ’The league is cancelled, we cannot go outside, and we have to stay here for no one know how long... Yeah, maybe Daniel is right. What’s left from this shitty situation is a bunch of zombies trying to eat my brain, and the apocalyptic scenario will be completed with that...’
