The Rise of the Iron Wall!
Chapter 656: Higo’s Current Condition
Once they arrived at the hospital, the first thing that Waldoch asked was to get Higo checked with an MRI. The person from the medical team also helped in this regard, giving his recommendation so that they could go as quickly as possible. This was a normal procedure for someone who got their head injured, so Higo complied obediently.
The next thing Higo knew, he had been lying on the crib, fully exhausted after spending one hour getting his head scanned. Honestly, it was the weirdest thing ever.
"So, how long should I wait until the result is out?" He couldn’t help but ask.
"Well, normally, it should be around one to two weeks, but this hospital has been working with us for 30 years, so we have an advantage here." The person from the medical team, a middle-aged man named Jan Kowalski, gave Higo a little smile. "We asked this to be treated as an emergency situation, so you will be able to see the result in a few hours. Incredible, right?"
Higo couldn’t help but let out a low whistle, not expecting the difference to be this big. "From one to two weeks to be just a few hours? Is the hospital’s director a Schalke fan or what?" He murmured, impressed.
True enough, he didn’t need to wait for so long, as the result was finally out. No permanent damage or something that could last for a long time was found, just a skin injury that looked scary. Higo could even join the training session tomorrow, but the doctor gave him three days of rest to help him get better.
"I mean, you are the hero of this town, so this is the least I could do for you, right?" That doctor, an old man who was around 50 to 60, winked at him secretly.
The boy felt the corner of his lips twitching a little here. Indeed, this was a hospital in Gelsenkirchen, one that had been working together with the Schalke team. So many doctors here should be fans as well, so there was no way his performance could be hidden from them.
Still, Higo accepted this gratefully, knowing full well that this was the rest that he needed. The boy had been pushing himself in the last couple of days both physically and mentally, so he intended to use this break to relax.
Fortunately, though, he didn’t need to stay in the hospital for more than one night. The next morning, he woke up quite early, and after getting checked up by the same doctor, Higo was finally allowed to go back home.
"No need to report to the team, Thomasz and I have already told the coach about your situation." Jan Kowalski said before he let Higo go. "Just make sure that you don’t do anything stupid and open the wound again, okay? It would be troublesome to explain later."
Higo nodded quietly, understanding his situation quite well. The boy also didn’t want to visit this hospital quite often. While the doctor and nurses here were lovely, the aura of sick people in the hospital was always suffocating, and the sooner he was out of this place, the better he would be.
On his journey back to his flat, Higo was also greeted by several people on the street. From the owner of the electrical shop nearby to the waiter in the French restaurant that he had never been to, everyone seemed to be enthusiastic when they saw him strolling around casually.
"Hey, Higo! How is your head injury?"
"Good game yesterday! I watched your game, and you really looked like a beast!"
"Hey, future superstar! Can you give me a sign, please?!"
Higo just answered them all one by one while inwardly muttering, ’What the fuck... Just one game, and all the people in the street seem to know me?! This is crazy!’
Once again, it seemed that Higo still underestimated how important the Revierderby was for the people in this town. Hell, little did he know that the biggest headline in the local newspaper was the game yesterday, as any win against Dortmund, no matter which team did that, would always receive the unconditional support from everyone. That just showed how big the rivalry was for this city.
Still, Higo couldn’t care less about it right now. After greeting back the people there politely, he walked back to his flat as quickly as possible, and the first thing the boy did after arriving there was to give a call to the people back home. He cringed inwardly, knowing that at least they would scold him for his recklessness yesterday.
True enough, the first second this four-way call was connected, Higo was greeted by an earful of scolding from his mother.
"RYUKKUN! Finally! We have been calling you all night; why did you turn off your phone?! Is your head okay? Don’t you know how worried we are back here?! We couldn’t even get any news, waiting anxiously for you to call us first!"
Looking at his mother’s worried look, especially the deep bag under her eyes, Higo couldn’t help but feel like a crap right now.
"Sorry, Mom, I stayed at the hospital last night." He apologized, his voice so small from the guilt. "Still, I am okay, I swear! Look! This is the result of the MRI test yesterday! See? No long-lasting injury in my head! Everything is good, and I even have a break for three days! Everything ends well, right?" He smiled weakly.
"Ryukkun... The result at that time was 2-0 with your team already winning; why are you still insisting on playing? What are you trying to prove there?" His sister chimed in before Minami could say anything.
Higo flinched immediately when he heard that tone. He might be one of the team’s best players right now, but his sister’s flat tone when she was angry like this could still send shivers down his spine. In the end, he could only give one weak response again in this moment.
"Sorry, Aya-nee... I didn’t mean to do that..."
