Jinling City’s urban village.

A rental village known as a gathering place for society’s parasites.

Littered with countless freeloaders waiting to die.

Most of these people have fled from elsewhere.

When they’ve lost everything but their lives.

Life has become a numb, zombie-like existence!

It’s not that they don’t work.

It’s just that when they’re starving, they go find a day job.

Then they take their day’s wages and live here for three days.

Eating a bowl of three-yuan clear soup noodles, smoking a pack of two-yuan-eight cigarettes, drinking two-yuan bottles of mineral water, and using the net cafes for one yuan an hour.

That’s their life structure.

The morning sun lazily drapes over those who use the sky as a blanket and the ground as a bed.

Some remain asleep in the open air, while some have already woken up.

The awakened ones sit staring blankly, as if contemplating life, but more likely lost.

"Collecting ID cards here! One hundred yuan each, one hundred yuan each!"

A shout echoed suddenly from an unknown direction.

Many who were awake looked reflexively.

They licked their lips, eyes showing disappointment, and then returned to their vacant, numb state.

It’s not that they don’t want to sell; it’s just that they’ve already sold them.

Their sold ID cards had given them three joyous days of small happiness.

"Boss, what’s going on? Why did you bring me here? This place stinks; are you planning to make me slaughter these societal trash? No way, even though I’ve never killed anyone, it would be an insult to have me kill such trash!"

Following Qin Fan into the filthy rental village, the old man covered his nose and spoke confusedly.

"Either follow or get lost!"

With an expressionless face, Qin Fan threw out a sentence and continued walking steadily.

All along the way.

Countless homeless souls raised their hollow eyes to look at these two well-dressed unexpected visitors.

They were curious, curious as to why the pair were here in such a place.

"Boss, give me ten yuan; I haven’t eaten for two days!"

A youth sitting on the ground, filthy and exuding stench from not bathing for days, called out to Qin Fan and the old man as they approached.

"Eight yuan, is eight yuan alright? Boss, show some mercy, please!"

Seeing Qin Fan unmoved, the youth shouted again, "Five yuan, I beg you—boss, can you give me five yuan?"

"Three yuan, three yuan, boss, give me three yuan so I can buy a bowl of noodles, and I’ll kowtow to you!"

As Qin Fan was passing by him, he instinctively wanted to reach out to grab Qin Fan’s pant leg.

But, hesitantly, he pulled back at the last moment and began to kowtow heavily to Qin Fan.

For just three yuan.

A perfectly able-bodied young man wasn’t above kneeling and bowing.

Yet, he still couldn’t earn Qin Fan’s pity.

Like he didn’t see or hear anything, Qin Fan continued walking, unmoved.

Failing to get money, the youth climbed back up, and returned to his spot, sitting.

His gaze returned to the hollow silhouettes much like himself.

"Boss, what’s going on? Tell me, why have we come to this damned place? I truly want to wipe out all this scum! Their existence is only polluting the air!"

Following Qin Fan into an alleyway.

The old man complained angrily.

"Shut up!" Qin Fan’s cold two-word command answered him.

Then came a halt.

With a twist of his body.

He flew directly over the outer wall, into the courtyard of a one-story house.

The old man followed suit, leaping in quickly.

Though he didn’t know what Qin Fan was planning, he had no other choice.

"Father, the courtyard gate’s lock didn’t move; someone came in from outside the wall!"

Inside the locked house, a delicate-looking woman quickly moved from the hall to the bedroom door, calling out.

Though she intentionally kept her voice low, everyone inside the house heard it.

Immediately, they rushed out of the bedroom in a panic.

"Damn that Gu Clan, damn Miao Yingjie, I curse your ancestors! I curse your ancestors!"

"It’s over, it’s over, it must be Gu Clan; what should we do?"

"Uncle, we’re trapped like fish in a barrel now, what should we do!"

"We’re doomed, doomed!"

"Fight them, fight them! I can’t stand this life of hiding anymore!"

In a flash.

Because of Yao Yiren’s urgent report.

Everyone hiding in the house from Medicine Valley panicked.

"Shut up!!!"

Suddenly.

In the middle of the shouting, Yao Junxian, who appeared much older and wearier, shouted loudly.

He said, "If this is Gu Clan, would you really have the chance to shout here? Wouldn’t they be breaking in by now?"

As Yao Junxian spoke, silence fell among the Medicine Valley group.

Indeed, if it were Gu Clan.

Would they still not be forcing their way in at this time?

Without waiting for anyone to reply.

Yao Junxian spoke again, "Jianjia contacted me yesterday, said Qin Fan has returned!"

"What?"

"Qin Fan? Isn’t he dead?"

"He’s more detestable than Miao Yingjie; if it weren’t for him, we wouldn’t be in this predicament!"

"Valley Master, do you really believe he’ll come to rescue us? That’s impossible!"

Outside the one-story house.

Qin Fan moved slowly, listening to the conversations word for word.

He smiled gently at this.

Without showing any other emotional response.

Facing the tightly locked door, he shouted, "Yao Valley Master, aren’t you planning to open the door to greet me?"

Swish-!

Inside.

Yao Junxian trembled at the shout.

Then a wildly joyful expression surged from his exhausted face.

Ecstatically he shouted, "It’s Qin Fan, Qin Fan, open the door! Hurry, open the door!"

Yet, everyone in Medicine Valley was stunned.

They couldn’t believe it was really Qin Fan!

Seeing the clan’s people stand there motionless, shocked into inaction.

Yao Junxian, consumed with anxiety, hurriedly shoved aside those blocking his path.

With a flash, he was quickly at the locked door, fumbling urgently to open it.

Outside the house.

Qin Fan stood with a harmless smile.

Looking at Yao Junxian’s face, more aged and worn than two months before, as the door opened.

He let the smile fade from his face, and solemnly said, "Yao Valley Master, I apologize for your hardship!"

"Divine Envoy, not at all, not at all! I’ve been waiting anxiously forever, finally the savior has come!"

With those words, Yao Junxian couldn’t hold back the tears welling up.

Used to the peaceful bloom of Medicine Valley.

These times of hardship brought suffering not just to other Medicine Valley people.

To him, it was agony akin to Hell!

But the greatest agony wasn’t just the physical hardship, it was the torment of the soul!

The treasure left to them by ancestors had been seized by Gu Clan!

Their fates were fragmented, they fled and hid like stray dogs in that cursed place.

This experience, nobody but they themselves could understand!
