Chapter 517 - 325: Deepwater City—The Most Dangerous City on the Continent
Galina crawled out of her warm bed.
If her bladder hadn't been screaming for relief, she might have stayed there forever.
She got up with great reluctance, shuffled to the bathroom, and sat on the cold toilet seat to relieve herself.
Ahhh—
'Everything was so tedious and boring.'
She was here to attend the Demon Shadow Festival.
As the granddaughter of the Drama Guild's Chairman, her experience of the festival was naturally different from that of an ordinary tourist.
She had an all-access pass.
It granted her entry to every screening and rerun at the Demon Shadow Festival, not to mention all the parties and events.
But she hadn't gone to any events in the past two days. Galina was mainly here to see Mr. Raul, but he had only made appearances in the first few days of the festival. Even then, it was only because Zog had dragged him out to make an appearance; otherwise, he wouldn't have wanted to show up for a single day.
After the events of the first few days, Raul's next appearance wouldn't be until the awards ceremony on the final day.
As Raul's number one fan, Galina only bothered to show up at events he attended.
So, as far as she was concerned, there was nothing worth seeing at the Demon Shadow Festival for now.
Worse, there was nothing fun to do in the city, either.
It wasn't that the attractions in Deepwater City were bad, it was just… they felt no different from any other city. You could find places like these anywhere.
'I thought the lives of Devils would be more interesting. Turns out they're just like reskinned Humans.'
'It's not that Devils acting like Humans is a bad thing. It's actually very reassuring. But… it's just so boring…'
'The subway was more interesting.'
Out of sheer boredom, she had ridden every single subway line the day before.
To be honest, she actually found the subway quite interesting.
At every terminus station, she saw large groups of railfans with cameras, whooping like monkeys as the trains arrived and departed.
It gave Galina the surreal impression that they were cheering for her.
'The price of a subway ticket for the full Big Star experience.'
'But what to do today?'
Galina stared out the window, her eyes vacant. 'It's still 118 hours until I can see Mr. Raul at the awards ceremony. The wait is agony.'
'Well, nothing for it. Might as well get something to eat.'
She took out her phone and opened a food delivery app.
Food delivery was another one of Deepwater City's novelties.
It was different from Twin Tower City, where you had to contact a restaurant directly and have them arrange for delivery.
Here, you just placed an order, and the platform would find someone to deliver it.
There were more options, and it was much faster.
It even showed a breakdown of how much the restaurant, the platform, and the delivery person made on each order. The pricing seemed very fair.
But some parts weren't so "fair."
The group-buy meal option on the homepage was something Galina couldn't quite wrap her head around.
It was just too cheap.
So cheap that she couldn't help but wonder if there was a catch.
'But other than that, it's a perfect platform. I hope it expands to other regions soon.'
She'd only been here a few days, but Galina already couldn't live without food delivery.
She expertly ordered a sandwich and went back to staring blankly out the window. A strange thought suddenly popped into her head.
'It would be nice if two Great Devils suddenly started fighting in the street.'
The thought made her chuckle.
'If they really started fighting, wouldn't that be incredibly dangerous?'
'Still, I'd really love to see it…'
Before long, her food arrived.
Galina left her room and went to the hotel's first-floor lobby to pick up her delivery, planning to find a seat and eat it right there.
She didn't like her room smelling of food.
It wasn't that she found it unpleasant; it was just that the smell made her hungry. Being hungry made her want to eat, and eating made her gain weight…
'A lifetime spent fighting my own weight.'
'I'm so jealous of people with small appetites.'
The only downside to eating in the lobby was that people would occasionally come by to sell all sorts of things.
They were usually selling souvenirs or newspapers.
"Hey, pretty lady, want a copy of the latest *Sunlight Newspaper*?"
A young newsboy had zeroed in on Galina eating alone.
"No, thank you."
'It's nice to be called pretty, but I'm not buying a newspaper.'
She was no longer the little girl who would buy whatever was being sold to her. Besides, she didn't read newspapers.
"Go on, buy one. This is the latest *Sunlight Newspaper*. It has the newest secrets about Deepwater City," the newsboy said, lowering his voice. "This place is actually the most dangerous city on the Continent."
Galina laughed out loud. This kid would say anything to sell a newspaper.
'I've never seen a city as safe as Deepwater City.'
So many tourists had arrived all at once, yet there wasn't even any news about theft online, let alone anything truly dangerous.
Even the shops in the tourist areas didn't jack up their prices.
Some influencer on YouTube had even tested it by intentionally leaving a wallet on a restaurant table to see if anyone would take it.
After several experiments, no one ever did.
They said it was because Deepwater City was full of security cameras. As expected of a city built by the Zog Group—they had maxed out their technological advantage in surveillance.
Some people felt that too many cameras were an invasion of privacy.
Galina, however, thought it was no big deal. 'What privacy is there to speak of on a public street?'
'It's not like they were hiding cameras in your room.'
'If this isn't safe, then no city on the Continent is.'
Seeing that Galina was unmoved, the newsboy adopted the air of someone with inside information. "It's not about safety on the surface. This city is actually full of undercurrents."
"Then tell me," Galina asked, her interest piqued. "What kind of undercurrents does this city have?"
'I'm bored anyway. Might as well see what nonsense this kid can spin.'
