Chapter 315: Chapter 241: The Cabbage Roots the Pig (3)

Insecure people are used to putting on a front.

"What’s that?"

But Grace pointed directly at a row of machines and asked.

The machine was spitting out colorful, sparkling, and delicate threads, which were wrapped around a wooden stick, forming a large, fluffy ball that looked like cotton.

She had truly never seen one before.

Grace had never been to Zog Cinema either, but her reasons for not coming were slightly different from Peter’s.

And she wasn’t insecure.

"Oh, that’s cotton candy," the staff member explained with a smile.

"Young man, would you like to buy one for the beautiful lady beside you?"

"I..."

Peter didn’t know how to answer for a moment.

But Grace spoke up directly, "No, *I’m* buying one for the handsome gentleman beside me. Can you make it heart-shaped?"

"Haha, you two are so sweet together."

Two minutes later, Peter was standing there awkwardly, holding a huge, pink, heart-shaped cotton candy.

He felt like every single person walking by was staring at him.

Grace didn’t care.

"OM NOM!"

She took a big bite.

"What a strange texture! It’s pretty good. They don’t let me eat sweets whenever I want at home."

While waiting for the movie to start, the two of them quickly finished the cotton candy.

It looked huge, but there wasn’t actually much to it.

"I should have been the one to buy that for you."

Peter was still hung up on the fact that Grace had paid.

"I’m the guy. They..."

Peter had wanted to say "when they go on a date," but he wasn’t sure if what he and Grace were doing counted as a date.

In all the dating scenarios he was familiar with, the guy always paid.

"What’s wrong with being the guy? Are you looking down on girls? Besides, there’s no rule that says only one person has to pay."

Grace suddenly grabbed Peter’s hand and pulled him to his feet.

"Come on, *Shadow of Evil* is about to start."

In that instant, Peter’s brain short-circuited.

’She’s holding my hand. She’s holding my hand...’

It was the only thought cycling through his mind as Grace passively dragged him along, got their tickets checked, and led him inside.

At the same time, Peter was walking a little strangely.

He was slightly hunched over, with his thighs pressed together.

When Peter stood up, so did Little Peter.

That’s just how teenage boys are. A simple touch of the hand, and in an instant, blood rushes to all the wrong places.

It wasn’t him being a pervert; it was genuinely uncontrollable.

Peter could only breathe a sigh of relief once they stepped into the dark theater.

He’d broken into a sweat just walking those few steps. He hoped Grace hadn’t noticed anything unusual.

After they found their seats and sat down, Little Peter finally calmed down.

He had only been calm for a few seconds when Grace suddenly squeezed his hand again, then gently traced her finger across his palm a couple of times.

Peter’s expression immediately turned pained, and he hunched over again.

He turned to look at Grace and was met with her sly smile, the kind that said her little trick had worked.

’She knows everything!’

’She’s teasing me on purpose!’

The truth is, teenage girls are often more "knowledgeable" than boys; they just don’t usually show it.

Poor Little Peter, being played with in the palm of the "evil" Grace’s hand.

In the end, it was the start of the movie that saved Peter.

The remaining lights in the theater dimmed, and the packed auditorium fell silent.

Zog Cinema had a rule that was different from other theaters: latecomers could get a refund, but they would not be allowed to enter.

The highly recognizable Red Middle logo appeared, and then the screen shifted to a view from inside a car.

It was an extremely high-end Magic-guided Vehicle.

So high-end that even the Grace family only had a few.

Even more surprising was the person in the driver’s seat, who had two conspicuous horns on his head.

It was a Tiefling.

In the seat next to him was a middle-aged man with no life in his eyes.

As an armchair critic who had left a bad review online, Peter had some idea of the plot and knew these two were the main characters.

But he didn’t know the specific details of the plot.

Nor did he know how this film, which had been accused of "maliciously redeeming" Tieflings, actually did the redeeming.

This opening certainly piqued his curiosity.

Why would a Tiefling be driving someone in a luxury car?

Suddenly, the Tiefling accelerated, speeding down the street, overtaking one horse-drawn carriage after another. Some of the frightened horses reared up in panic, throwing the street into chaos.

Immediately after, the Guard Corps spotted the luxury car causing the chaos and began to give chase.

’Is this a crime film?’

’A Tiefling kidnapping a rich man and trying to escape?’

Peter guessed. He was confused by the opening. If that was the case, what did it have to do with redemption?

The Guard Corps’ Griffin Knights cornered the luxury car from the front and back, forcing it to a stop.

The tip of a Knight’s spear, shimmering with the light of Magic, was pointed at the driver’s seat.

"Get out of the car! Get out now! Let me see your hands! Put both hands up!"

Normally, the Guard Corps wouldn’t bother with procedure for a Tiefling caught breaking the law. They’d just arrest them directly, or even execute them on the spot.

But a Tiefling getting out of a luxury car was a situation that required clarification before any decisions were made.

"I’ll bet Two Gold Coins they’ll clear a path for us," the Tiefling said.

"You’re going to lose again."

"Wanna bet?"

"You’re on."

With that, the Tiefling raised his hands and stepped out of the Magic-guided Vehicle.

"I need to explain."

"Shut up!"

"The other person, get out of the car!" the Knight warned.

"He can’t get out! He’s a patient! He can’t move! There’s a wheelchair in the car, go look!"

The Tiefling wasn’t acting at all like a captured criminal. Instead, he was righteously accusing the Guard Corps.

The other Knight went to check and found that there was indeed a wheelchair, and the man had a noble Sir’s crest on his chest.

He was having trouble breathing, shaking his head frantically, and foaming at the mouth, looking like he was about to die at any second.

The Knight panicked.

He had just forced a patient in desperate need of help to stop—and a noble patient at that.

The Tiefling continued his tirade.

"Why do you think I was driving so fast? I’m his caregiver! If he doesn’t see a doctor in the next five minutes, he’s going to die! Are you going to make me tell his daughter that her own father died because the Guard Corps held him up?"

His voice was powerful and resonant.

"Alright, we’ll clear a path for you," the flustered Guard Corps Knight said.

The Tiefling got back in the car and used a tissue to wipe away the foam from the Sir’s mouth.

"Sir, you’re disgusting. Now you owe me Two Gold Coins."

Then, the man and the Tiefling both broke into sly, shit-eating grins.

’The two of them were acting?’

The audience was surprised at first, then burst into laughter.

It fit the stereotype of a Tiefling perfectly, but... somehow, it wasn’t that detestable.
