Chapter 37: Chapter 37 - completion of the mission

I looked at him and said, "Stop rambling,you old dog. Come at me."

"What? You’re different from those trash?"

"You might be right. When I look at you, I see a bigger trash. Nothing more than that. You think you can change anything? Keep dreaming."

Then, before he even had a chance to talk, I went in with a full-force sword attack that augmented my sword with mana and black flame.

He reacted quickly and used lightning to augment his speed and moved away.

Oh, so he can use an element properly. That’s how he got the confidence to say those things, unlike those trash who can’t use their element properly.

But what of it?

It doesn’t make a single difference to me.

He managed to avoid my attack, but what about Nyx?

She appeared beside him and attacked him with her sword and managed to make a small cut, but he avoided most of her attack too.

I looked at Nyx and said, "He’s got lightning, and speed is his biggest advantage. But no big deal."

He looked at me. "Hm. Brat. It seems you are quite arrogant."

I didn’t waste any words. I rushed forward, and Nyx didn’t rush. She waited until my attack landed and he moved so she could get a clear attack at him.

I attacked, and he avoided as usual, but I used dark vines to bind him. He got stopped for a moment before he broke free, and in that closed window Nyx appeared and dealt a fatal blow to him with her sword.

He grimaced, gritted his teeth, and looked at Nyx. He abandoned his defense and attacked her, thinking he could at least take her down with him. But no luck. I didn’t wait. I used my new trait I got from that silver wolf and made my agility increase, and with that momentum I threw another attack at him and cut off his head in one clean attack.

His eyes filled with despair, and then we saw his head fall off him, his dead body lying there.

I looked at his falling dead body. No emotion crossed through my eyes.

Nyx nodded like she was completing a task, looked one last time at the dead body, and left.

I used my Devour ability on him.

I nodded at that, and I felt a strange feeling, like my mana responded to me slightly more.

It’s a very small sensation. One might miss it if they didn’t pay attention.

But I nodded and went to absorb the others’ attributes as well.

And continually I absorbed everything.

I nodded, looked at the free points, and put 3 in Vitality and put the rest into Perception.

After that I moved to the children. I didn’t wait to feel the new improvements of my power.

And when I went there, Nyx had already freed most of them, so I went to the other cages, directly cut off the lock, opened it, and gently helped the kid come out. I used my space ring, took out my emergency food, and gave it to the kid.

He looked at the bun and hesitated to take it, his hands trembling.

I didn’t force it. I just said, "Take it. Don’t worry. From now on, nothing is going to happen while you are under us."

He looked at my face. I smiled at the child and gave him the bun. He hesitated, but ultimately hunger won.

But I made sure he ate it slowly, because if not he could get more problems.

And I gave him a water bottle and moved to the next kid and did the same. They of course don’t trust us, but what choice do they have? I didn’t force them. I let them eat the food and waited for them to finish.

Then I went to Nyx.

She looked at all my actions with a small warm smile, but when I looked at her, her face returned to normal.

I asked, "Let them eat and let them calm down for a few minutes, and let’s go look around if there are any more children."

She nodded, and we went around the camp and looked for other children. I didn’t find any, but I found the money, and of them gold, lots of gold. I took them and looked a little more and made sure no other children were here, and we led them to the carriage.

They followed, and I made sure everyone ate their fill of the food.

And I let them in the carriage and asked Nyx while scratching my head, "Do you know how to ride this?"

She looked at me.

Then she understood and smiled. "Yeah, I know a bit. Let’s go."

I sighed a massive sigh, got out all the money I got from those trash, and looked at the kids, their pale skin and their skinny bodies. I remembered myself. I don’t have much use for these anyway, but to them this is worth immensely, so I divided them into equal portions and gave each one of them and said,

"Keep these and make sure you spend them on you or your loved ones. Don’t let anyone take them. We’ll escort you to your family. Do you guys remember where they are if we go to the village?"

They looked at the gold pouch, looked at me, and nodded, saying they know.

I smiled and nodded. "Okay then. Here, if you guys want to eat more."

Then I went to Nyx’s side, who was driving the carriage.

She looked at me.

I took out another bun, put it in her mouth, and said, "If you said you were hungry too, I’d give you one."

She took out the bun and glared at me. "Who said I’m hungry?"

I just said, "Oh, the way you look, I thought for sure you were hungry."

She took the bun and ate a small bite, muttering, "Idiot."

I just smiled at that, and we finally came to the village and directly went to a clothing shop, and the owner is an old lady.

She looked at us and asked what’s going on.

I just smiled and said, "We are adventurers, and we took the mission to save those children, and we saved them, but their clothes are... you can see the state, so we decided to buy them clothes before handing them to their family."

She looked at the children, and her heart immediately warmed. She nodded and let us inside, but we gave all the clothes handling to her.

She nodded.

And after all the children got themselves good clothes, we nodded and paid her.

She refused to take the payment, but I paid anyway. She is doing a business too. I can’t just come and take stuff by exploiting her sympathy.

And after talking to each child, we got to know the road to their home and escorted them to their house and made sure they were the real family.

When the family finally reunited with each other, they cried happy tears. I watched that from the side, and before they had to thank us I silently left with the other children to give them to their own families as well.

It’s a heartwarming experience, and the more I see this, the more rage inside me bubbles toward those trash of humans who kidnapped them.

But it’s quite normal, and many do it openly in the real world as well. Those nobles go around buying innocent children as slaves and use them as nothing more than servants or playthings.

And we finally delivered the last child to their home, and then came the notification.

Nyx looked at me and asked, "So what are we going to do next?"

I looked at her and said, "Let’s go to the adventurer guild and confirm the mission ended. If not, more adventurers will go to the forest and waste their time."

She thought for a moment and nodded. "Hm. That’s a good idea, but I’m a little tired."

I looked at her and said, "Hm. Then let’s meet with a guard and tell the matter to him and exit. We don’t need the reward anyway. It must be money anyway."

Her eyes lit up, and she nodded, and I looked for a guard and explained the situation. He understood and asked about the reward. I just said do whatever with it and left with Nyx.

I looked at him, surprised, waved at him, and exited the tower with Nyx.
