The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend

Chapter 999 - Infiltrating the Light Faction Headquarters

  • Next Chapter

There were two reasons for choosing the Light Faction.

The first was that Han Wu and the Light God King had already fought before. The two were like fire and water. The Light God King was undoubtedly looking for an opportunity to kill Han Wu, so the latter believed that striking first would at least give him some initiative.

The second reason was that Han Wu now had intelligence on the Light Faction, including a complete defensive deployment map of their headquarters. It was like holding the key to the Light Faction’s back door. Letting such an opportunity slip away would be an insult to the intelligence he had obtained.

As for Jing Jing, she didn’t care which faction they attacked. She simply followed Han Wu’s lead. If he wanted to hit the Light Faction, then the Light Faction it would be.

With the plan settled, Han Wu started to make preparations. Sun Qingnian was already handling the intelligence side, so there was nothing to worry about there. At the same time, Han Wu hadn’t forgotten about Jia Gui, who was still hiding inside the Light Faction.

That sly old fox had been playing hide-and-seek within the Light Faction for ages without getting caught. He was definitely useful. As such, Han Wu contacted Jia Gui to arrange the rendezvous, then set out for the Light Faction’s headquarters with Jing Jing.

In the Divine Civilization, every faction’s headquarters was typically located in a secret region known only to their members. The goal was to maximize the headquarters’ security.

The Light Faction was no different. Their headquarters lay within a region with natural barriers that prevented certain life forms from detecting it. They had also set up arrays that automatically generated illusions to keep wandering creatures away.

None of that posed any obstacle to Han Wu, who already had the intelligence. He slipped through effortlessly and brought Jing Jing into the Light Faction’s headquarters.

Inside, every Major God had claimed a territory as a personal domain. They stationed numerous units throughout their territories to guard the headquarters and maintain security. Anyone below the Major God rank, whether Gods, Demigods, or Divine Beings, wasn’t qualified to reside there.

Normally, simply being permitted to visit and run errands for the Major Gods was considered a great privilege.

Han Wu silently criticized the Light Faction’s rigid hierarchy as he and Jing Jing made their way toward the edge of the headquarters.

Jia Gui was already there, lurking and waiting for them.

“Brother Han Wu,” Jia Gui called out softly from a distance, channeling his Divine Points to carry the whisper to Han Wu’s ears.

Han Wu followed the voice and quickly found him.

After so many days apart, Jia Gui looked the same as ever: thin, shady, and wearing his perpetually sly expression. Han Wu’s sharp senses also detected something else. Jia Gui’s Concealment Jurisdiction had reached full development, and he had completed his ascension. Jia Gui was now a God King.

The Concealment Jurisdiction was a minor Jurisdiction, but its function was unique enough. In certain situations, even a major Jurisdiction couldn’t match Concealment’s utility.

Jia Gui had already reached the World rank before his ascension. After receiving the Divine Civilization’s energy from his ascension, his strength had improved somewhat. Knowing Jia Gui, however, the boost had probably gone entirely toward his ability to run away. His actual combat strength was likely still as mediocre as ever.

If Jia Gui had known what Han Wu was thinking, he would have given a thumbs-up and said, “Brother Han Wu, you really do know me!”

His offensive power was clearly lacking, but from another perspective, Jia Gui had reached an unrivaled peak in the art of escape. During this period, the Light Faction had spent countless resources trying to capture him, yet every effort remained fruitless.

Jia Gui was quite proud of that. The more they spent trying to catch him, the more successful he considered himself.

After meeting up with Han Wu and Jing Jing, Jia Gui activated his Concealment Jurisdiction and cloaked all three of them. For the time being, the Light Faction couldn’t detect Han Wu or Jing Jing’s presence.

“Brother Han Wu, you have to help me rescue Elina this time. If you get her out, I’ll make you the witness at my wedding, and I won’t even pester you to bring a gift,” Jia Gui said.

“How is that a reward? That’s a punishment,” Han Wu shot back.

Given Jia Gui’s reputation, being his witness would be nothing short of embarrassing. That simply couldn’t happen.

On the other hand, Han Wu had no objection to rescuing Elina if circumstances allowed. His primary objective was to humiliate the Light God King. He was also curious how Elina had fallen for Jia Gui in the first place. He could always ask her once they met.

Once inside the headquarters, Han Wu and Jing Jing exchanged a glance before summoning skeleton soldiers together.

As Han Wu shifted into his Nether King form, the undead skeleton army stationed within the White Soul Civilization answered his call and flooded toward him. Meanwhile, Jing Jing opened her divine realm, and bone sand surged out like ocean waves.

From the bone sand, Bone Dragons emerged one after another. Every single one of them possessed Microcosm strength and had already mastered a Divine Aspect. They were incredibly powerful. Skyreach Giant skeletons soon followed, each radiating an aura only slightly weaker than the Bone Dragons.

The sudden appearance of so many undead within the Light Faction immediately put the resident Major Gods on high alert.

When the nearest Major God recognized the tactics the undead were using, he relaxed. The skeleton sea strategy was an outdated tactic that had fallen out of favor years ago. The Light Faction’s Major Gods had long since developed reliable countermeasures against it.

The Major God immediately deployed the standard response. First, he summoned a Holy Mountain imbued with purification energy, intending to use its wide-area effect to keep the undead at bay. He then followed up with various counteractive Divine Skills.

Based on past experience, a single volley of light-attribute Divine Skills would leave even Heavenrender undead reeling. This time, however, those standard countermeasures proved almost useless against the undead that Han Wu and Jing Jing had summoned.

The Major God even noticed that some skeleton soldiers with unusual attributes actually grew stronger after being struck by the light-attribute Divine Skills.

Naturally, he was stunned. He couldn’t understand what was happening. Since when had skeleton soldiers become resistant to light-attribute Divine Skills and Purification?

The answer was simple. After her Soul God King ascension, Jing Jing’s skeletons no longer feared light-attribute Divine Skills or Purification. Under the Soul Jurisdiction’s Soul-Body Fusion effect, her skeleton soldiers had gained the soul attribute. Light held no inherent advantage over souls. Its natural counter only applied to death and darkness. Therefore, her skeletons shrugged off most of the Major God’s attacks.

As for Han Wu’s Jackal Deathsworns, they burned with dragon fire, which dramatically enhanced their strength. The light-attribute Divine Skills couldn’t penetrate the dragon fire at all.

The undead skeletons pushed through the barrage of light-attribute Divine Skills and the Holy Mountain’s purification, closing the distance at a frightening speed. By the time the Major God realized that he needed to summon his own units, it was already too late.
