The Ocean's Little Tyrant: A Mermaid Baby Conquers the 80s
Chapter 486 - 458: Orca Rescue
Yun Jiao arrived at the beach, looking for a secluded spot to jump into the sea.
Suddenly, she heard panicked shouts from a crowd not far away.
She looked over and saw two children being swept into the sea by a rip current.
The ocean usually looks calm, as if it poses no danger at all.
But anyone with experience living by the sea knows that a rip current can appear on a seemingly placid surface.
Rip currents sweep the coast at incredible speeds and then recede just as quickly.
If you’re too close to the water, there’s no time to escape.
By the time you realize what’s happening, you’ve already been pulled far from the shore, too far to swim back.
The Village Chief had already assigned people to patrol the coast every day, using a megaphone to educate visitors about the dangers. But people are a diverse bunch.
Some just wouldn’t listen, thinking it was all an overreaction—a classic case of being reckless and clueless.
Now that something had actually happened, they’d have plenty of time for regret.
But in a situation like this, Yun Jiao knew they would definitely shift the blame to their village.
The moment the rip current swept the two children away, Yun Jiao dove into the sea.
She was fast. In less than half a minute, she caught up to the current and grabbed the two sputtering children.
"COUGH, COUGH, COUGH..."
"WAAAH..."
The two children treated her like a lifeline, clinging on for dear life.
They wailed at the top of their lungs.
The sound of children crying is truly hard to listen to.
Yun Jiao yelled at them to stop crying and relax.
But the two terrified children just kept wailing.
Yun Jiao: "..."
She took a deep breath and decisively called for backup.
She glanced back. In just that short amount of time, they were already a long way from the shore.
Only because of her sharp eyesight could she still make out what was happening on the beach.
The people on shore, however, could no longer see her or the children. They were in a state of chaos.
Just as Yun Jiao had predicted, the children’s parents were crying while pushing all the blame onto Bailong Village.
"Why didn’t you put up any protections?! We came here to have fun, but who knew it was so dangerous!"
"Save my children! Go save them!"
The Village Chief was anxious, but he was also genuinely exhausted.
"We’ve already sent a boat out! We told you a million times not to get too close to the sea! We told you it was dangerous, but you wouldn’t listen, and now look..."
"Besides, how are we supposed to put up protections for an ocean this vast?"
’Do they think this is some small lake?’
He was truly happy that the village was making money. Every household was much better off now.
Several families were already starting to build new houses.
But as the number of visitors grew, so did the problems. Every day brought a mountain of issues to resolve.
The old Village Chief felt like he couldn’t handle it anymore.
’I’m getting old. It’s better to leave these exhausting matters to my son.’
’I can just manage things from behind the scenes.’
He had been planning to hand over the position of Village Chief to his son in the next couple of days, but now something else had happened at the beach.
’What a mess!’
"Where’s Jiaojiao? Go find Jiaojiao."
When it came to finding people in the sea, Yun Jiao was the best.
"Village Chief, someone said they saw Yun Jiao jump into the sea. She must have been here when it happened."
Hearing this, the Village Chief was completely relieved.
Somehow, Yun Jiao’s presence was like a pillar of support for their village.
The village boat, which had just set out, returned not long after.
The people on the boat shouted excitedly.
"They’re back! We found them! It was Yun Jiao! Yun Jiao rescued them!"
"And there’s a killer whale with them!"
The Village Chief was so delighted his mustache practically curled up.
"HAHAHA... Excellent, excellent! I knew nothing would go wrong with Jiaojiao around."
When the two children’s parents heard they had been found, they wept with joy.
The relief was so great their legs gave out and they collapsed to the ground, but they were quickly helped back up.
"My children!"
While they were worrying about the two children, on the other side, the same two kids who had been wailing in fear were now shouting with joy, riding on the back of a killer whale.
The killer whale slapped its tail, letting out high-pitched calls in time with the children’s shouts.
Yun Jiao covered her ears, feeling her headache return.
’Are they trying to make a rhythm or something?’
"Mommy, Mommy!"
The two children, one eight and the other six, were old enough to express themselves clearly.
As they got closer and closer to the shore, they waved their arms excitedly.
"Mommy, my little brother and I are over here! We’re okay! A big fish! We’re riding a big fish!"
"Daddy..."
On the shore, everyone except the locals of Bailong Village stared wide-eyed at the scene.
